According to one embodiment of the present invention there is provided a method of processing status data relating to elements of a network. The method comprises receiving status data relating to elements of the network, obtaining status data modification data, modifying at least some of the received status data in accordance with the status data modification data, and generating tree map data using the modified data.

System and method for processing data

According to one example, there is provided a method of managing an information technology (IT) system that comprising items of IT equipment. The method comprises obtaining a set of characteristics from items of IT equipment in the IT system, generating, using the obtained sets of characteristics, a consolidated set of characteristics representing at least part of the IT system, identifying, based on the generated consolidated set of characteristics, an item of IT equipment to be replaced, determining a set of minimum characteristics for a replacement item to replace the identified item; and selecting, from an IT equipment database, based on the determined characteristics, a replacement item of IT equipment.

Managing an information technology system

Monitoring distributed systems includes receiving availability parameters for distributed systems. A distributed system corresponds to at least one distributed system group. A status of at least one distributed system is determined according to the availability parameters. Grid map image data is generated that is operable to initiate display of a grid map. The grid map includes one or more areas. An area corresponds to a distributed system group. An area includes one or more cells. A cell has a status indicator indicating the status of at least one distributed system. A cell also has a display size indicating a relative importance of at least one distributed system. The grid map image data is transmitted to a client in order to display the grid map.
