Method for the pneumatic splicing of threads or yarns containing an elastomer and device for performing said splicing

A device for pneumatic knotless splicing of ends of thread or yarn. There is provided a cylindrical cavity, which is connected to a source of compressed air. In the cylindrical cavity, a piston rod is displaceable in both directions. A piston rod is actuated by an actuation lever, from a cam track of a drum. The track is divided at one section into two parallel branches. A first branch is used during rotation of the drum in a forward direction to displacement of the rod in one direction. A second branch is used during rotation of the drum in a return direction to displacement of the rod in the opposite direction. The cylindrical cavity with the piston rod constitutes a slide valve, for introducing compressed air into the devices for preparation of the ends of thread or yarn to be joined, when the rod is actuated in order to be displaced in the one direction, and to introduce the compressed air into the splicing chamber, when the rod is actuated in order to be displaced in the opposite direction, for execution of the pneumatic splicing of the two ends of thread or yarn. A specific amount of free play is provided in a lever transmission between the cam with an increasing profile and the drawing levers. The drawing levers are provided with braking means, to keep them stopped in the displaced position, on completion of the forward rotation of the drum.

Device for pneumatic splicing of threads and yarns to be installed on textile machines

A pneumatic thread or yarn knotless joining apparatus for installation on the winding positions of an automatic bobbin winding machine is provided with its own reversible electric stepping motor to cause stepwise rotation of the group of controlling drum cams firstly in an outward direction starting from a starting position and then in the return direction for controlling the synchronized movements of the various movable members. This cam group includes a cam of progressively increasing contour, preferably of stepped shape, for controlling the movement of the levers which withdraw the pretreated thread or yarn ends from the preparation members in the direction of the splicing chamber so as to be able to regulate, by choice of the number of advancement steps set, and hence the point reached on the contour of the cam, the extent of movement of the withdrawal levers from their rest position and hence the desired length by which the thread or yarn ends are superposed upon feeding into the splicing chamber the compressed air jet for making the knotless joint.

In a device for the knotless joining of threads and yarns using compressed air, a chamber is provided including central region of substantially U or V cross-section, possibly with a flat base, and two lateral regions of substantially circular cross-section. The slits of the three regions, through which the yarns to be joined are inserted, form a continuous common gap which is closable frontally by a cover. A nozzle opens into the base of the central region in a direction perpendicular to the frontal opening of the slit of said central region, and a nozzle opens into the base of each lateral region opposite the frontal opening of the relative slit in a direction substantially tangential to the circular cross-section, these latter two nozzles being in opposing positions and feedable with compressed air via a duct which is separate from the feed duct for the nozzle opening into the central region.

A splicing device is proposed, for splicing threads or textile yarns with compressed air containing an added liquid, in which, in order to get rid of the need for a precise and careful metering of the liquid to be added to the compressed air, and in order to protect the mechanical parts of the device from undesired noxious effects due to their contact with the liquid entrained by the compressed air, the mixing chamber inside which the splicing of the threads or yarns takes place is positioned inside a tank which can be tightly sealed before and during the splicing operation, from which tank a discharge duct for the liquid-admixed compressed air starts.

To the purpose of obtaining the joining of textile threads, by means of a splice accomplished with compressed gas, by a short, strong joint of nearly imperceptible appearance, a method is proposed, which includes the following steps: inserting the two threads to be joined through a longitudinal slit in a splicing chamber provided in a head having two parallel opposite side walls perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the chamber, in correspondence of which walls there are side outlets; substantially closing the side outlets of the chamber and at the same time locking the threads entering the chamber through its related side outlets, against the respective side walls of the head, but leaving free and unlocked the cut tails of the thread coming out of the outlets; and subjecting the thread lengths enclosed within the chamber to at least one burst of compressed gas blown into the chamber, the gas escaping through a port provided in the head transversely to the longitudinal axis of the chamber. The device includes a head provided with parallel side walls wherein a splicing chamber is provided with its longitudinal axis perpendicular to the side walls, and opening through the same walls, with a longitudinal slit for the introduction of the threads to be joined into the chamber, and with a transverse slit for the escape of air, as well as elements movable to approach and move away from the respective side walls of the head, to substantially close the outlets of the chamber, and to lock the threads entering the chamber against the respective side walls, but leaving free and unlocked the cut tails of the threads coming out of the chamber. The longitudinal slit may be closed by a cover.

Method for the splicing of textile threads by means of a compressed gas,

The invention relates to an apparatus for splicing textile threads by means of compressed air in a mixing chamber, with a device for pretreating the ends of the threads which comprises nozzles controllably feedable with compressed air and arranged at the sides of the body in which the mixing chamber is defined. The jets of air caused to leave the nozzles interfere with the cut ends of the threads laterally leaving the mixing chamber and cause them to be subjected to flapping and to a free whipping for opening and separating the fibres and putting the latter parallel to each other. A whirling motion may be imparted to the jets of air to remove the original twist from the fibres.

Apparatus for splicing textile threads

In an apparatus for joining textile threads with the aid of compressed air, there is provided a device for checking the tearing strength of the joint zone of the threads before their extraction from the apparatus. The device comprises at least one mobile member arranged to act on the loop formed by the joined threads with a predetermined traction force at an intermediate point between the points at which the threads are locked at the apparatus inlet. Control means are provided which are operated so that they travel through a predetermined outward and return stroke and act on said mobile member by way of a yieldable coupling which is set to yield when the predetermined traction force is exceeded.

An apparatus for joining textile threads with the aid of compressed air, for mounting in an automatic winding machine, comprises, in front of and behind a mixing chamber, opposing walls with guides for positioning the threads laterally to the chamber and perpendicularly to its longitudinal axis. The front wall carries members for crossing-over the threads before their insertion into the chamber. In the vicinity of the positioning guides for the thread locking members, the opposing wall, at which the threads to be joined enter the apparatus, carries adjustable members for adjusting the length of the free ends of the threads after they have been cut, and an adjustable member for operating a valve which controls the entry of compressed air into the chamber. A control drum which can be coupled to a power take-off of the winding machine is provided with profiled cam grooves for controlling the movements of the mobile members of the apparatus. A single profiled groove controls the movements of the locking members, the members for adjusting the length of the free ends, and the member for operating said valve.
