Core network allocation for GSM/UMTS

When a telecommunications network involves use of the Internet Protocol, signalling information is passed by providing between a user and the Internet Protocol an interface protocol () which interfaces with one or both of the Transport Control Protocol and the User Datagram Protocol. The interface protocol layer provides selected parts of SS7 facilities.

Telecommunications signalling using the internet protocol

A method of use of a UMTS telecommunications network, comprising utilizing UMTS signalling to indicate changes in an IP sub-network. To register a Mobile Terminal (MT) or to update its location within the network, signalling relevant to the IP domain is transmitted with UMTS signalling in an integrated approach. This reduces the number of signalling messages that are required and minimizes delays.

User registration and location management for mobile telecommunications systems

A method of establishing transmissions to a mobile station in a wireless radio communications system where an indication of the radio service requirement is provided to the mobile terminal. A switch receives a signal originating a call. The switch notifies a network accordingly with a paging message. The paging message is supplied to the mobile station. The indication of the radio service requirement is provides as part of, or with, the paging message. Subsequently, only those cells that fulfil the radio service requirement need be measured to determine which one is to be used for the transmission.

Signalling radio service requirements

In a mobile radio network such as the Universal Mobile Telephone System, for handover or relocation of control of a mobile from a serving RNC to a target RNC , the TRNC sends a request to the SRNC over the Iur link , and the SRNC returns frame timing information. The TRNC synchronizes the user plane with the SRNC for this uplink, so that both controllers are able to send the same packets in synchronizm.
