The single ply creped webs and products are generally durable, flexible and highly dispersible. The single ply creped webs and products may have a Slosh time less than 1 minute, and more preferably less than about 30 seconds, and a wet cross-machine direction (CD) tensile strength greater than about 100 g/3″. The single ply creped webs and products may be produced by a print crepe process that disposes a latex binder, particularly a non-cross linked latex binder, on at least one of the product's outer surfaces. The presence of a latex binder on the product's outer surface generally increases product durability and flexibility without negatively affecting dispersibility.

Durable and dispersible creped single ply tissue

The present invention provides a durable tissue product produced from a tissue web that has been manufactured by applying a binder, such as by printing, to one side of the web and then contacting the binder applied side to a rotating dryer and creping the web therefrom. The side of the web opposite of the binder applied side is generally not treated with a binder, or the like, and is not subjected to creping. Further, the opposite side is generally formed from a layer of short, low coarseness cellulosic fibers, such as hardwood kraft fibers, and may be substantially free from long cellulosic fibers, such as softwood fibers. Despite forming the untreated surface from short fibers, the tissue product has good durability, such as a slough from about 6.0 to about 9.0 mg.

Durable tissue product

The single ply tissue products have been prepared by a creping process, particularly a print creping process adapted to dispose a non-crosslinked latex polymer on at least one of the outer surfaces of the tissue product. The creped single ply tissue products generally have a low degree of stiffness, such as a Stiffness Index less than about 8.00, and are highly durable, such as a Durability Index greater than about 12.0. In other instances, the tissue products may have very low levels of lint or dust, such as a Slough less than about 4.00 mg, even at basis weights from about 45 to about 55 grams per square meter (gsm) and tensile strengths from 600 to 1,200 g/3″.

Creped single ply tissue

Disclosed are single ply creped webs and products made therewith. The webs and products are generally durable, flexible In and highly dispersible. For example, the creped single ply tissue products have a Slosh time less than 1 minute, and more preferably less than about 30 seconds, and a wet cross-machine direction (CD) tensile strength greater than about 100 g/3″. The foregoing properties are achieved even in those instances where the products comprise a latex binder disposed on an outer surface. For example, the tissue products may be produced by a print crepe process that disposes a non-crosslinked latex binder on at least one of the product's outer surfaces.

Provided are tissue products comprising a single ply tissue web that has been prepared by a creping process and more preferably by a print creping process adapted to dispose a non-crosslinked latex polymer on at least one of the outer surfaces of the tissue web. The creped single ply tissue products generally have a low degree of stiffness, such as a Stiffness Index less than about 8.00, and are highly durable, such as a Durability Index greater than about 12.0. In other instances, the tissue products may have very low levels of lint or dust, such as a Slough less than about 4.00 mg, even at basis weights from about 45 to about 55 grams per square meter (gsm) and tensile strengths from 600 to 1,200 g/3&#x2033;.

In general, the present invention is directed to a process for producing multi-ply tissue products from a single ply tissue web and the resulting multi-ply products, which have good softness and strength characteristics. The process of the present invention generally involves producing a first single ply tissue web and then splitting the web into two separate single ply tissue webs that can be converted into a multi-ply web. In certain preferred embodiments the single ply web may be manufactured such that when it is split into two separate webs the two webs are substantially identical.

The invention provides calendered tissue webs and products produced by passing a tissue web through a calender nip created by a patterned roll having a first pattern and a second pattern thereon and a substantially smooth roll. As the web is transported through the nip it is subjected to variable calender loads that impart variable cross-machine (CD) direction properties to the resulting calendered web. CD properties that may be varied according to the present invention include sheet caliper, sheet bulk and surface smoothness. The variable CD property may be preserved in the web as it is further converted, such as winding about a core, resulting in tissue products having physical properties that vary along at least one dimension of the product.

Tissue rolls having variable cross-machine direction properties

The present invention provides tissue products having a high degree of stretch and low modulus at relatively high tensile strengths, such as geometric mean tensile strengths greater than about 1500 g/3&#x2033; and more preferably greater than about 2000 g/3&#x2033;. The combination of a tough, yet relatively supple sheet is preferably achieved by subjecting the embryonic web to a speed differential as it is passed from one fabric in the papermaking process to another, commonly referred to as rush transfer.

Tissue having high strength and low modulus

The present disclosure offers an improvement in papermaking methods and products, by providing a tissue sheet and a method to obtain a tissue sheet, with improved absorbency at a given basis weight. Thus, by way of example, the present disclosure provides a single ply tissue sheet having a basis weight greater than about 50 gsm and a specific vertical absorbent capacity greater than about 6.0 g/g.

Absorbent tissue

The present invention provides tissue products having an MD/CD Tensile Ratio less than about 0.95, yet relatively high geometric tensile strength, such as geometric mean tensile strengths greater than about 1500 g/3&#x2033; and more preferably greater than about 2000 g/3&#x2033;. The combination of a tough, yet relatively supple sheet is preferably achieved by subjecting the embryonic web to a speed differential as it is passed from one fabric in the papermaking process to another, commonly referred to as rush transfer.
