A supported metal catalyst for the hydrogenation of oils and fats is obtained by causing a porous carriers to interact with an Ni and Cu containing solution in a molar ratio of Ni/Cu comprised within the range of from 1 to 8, and subsequently treating the resulting solid reaction product, after preliminary drying and calcination, with a flowing hydrogen stream at a temperature comprised within the range of from 200.degree. to 600.degree. C.

Supported metal catalyst for hydrogenating organic compounds and process

The process for preparing supported metal catalysts comprises the step of spending, in a solution of a metal compound, a carrier suitable for interacting with said compound, causing a polymer to interact with said carrier and submitting the resulting solid product to thermal treatment.
