According to an example, a printhead storage device comprises a printhead pocket to receive a printhead, a receptacle with an interior chamber wherein printing fluid is provided, and a fluid interconnect device comprising a fluid path with the interior chamber. Upon insertion of a printhead to the pocket, the fluid interconnect device is connected to the printhead, thereby providing a fluid connection between the printhead and the interior chamber and wherein the printhead is not operable when inserted in the printhead pocket.

Air ingestion prevention

Examples include a method for operating a printing device comprising a specific pen. The method comprises receiving future specific pen firing data related to a plurality of upcoming successive print jobs and collecting historical specific pen firing data. The method further comprises determining a level and timing of servicing of the specific pen in function of both of the received future specific pen firing data and of the collected historical specific pen firing data.

Pen servicing determination

Examples in accordance with the present disclosure are directed to a method including generating a negative fluid pressure between a fluid supply and a first port of a fluidic ejection device, and generating a positive fluid pressure between the fluid supply and a second port of the fluidic ejection device. The method further includes selectively activating a first priming pump connected to the first port in response to an indication that the first port is transitioning from an open state to a closed state, wherein the selective activation of the first priming pump causes the first port to remain in the open state and causes fluid within the fluidic ejection device to exit through the first port and to recirculate along a fluid flow path.

A system comprises a printhead including a nozzle, a temperature sensor and a processor. The temperature sensor detects the temperature of a location of a print surface upon firing the nozzle to eject a drop of printing fluid to the location of the print surface. The processor determines whether the nozzle ejected the drop properly using the detected temperature.

Thermal based drop detection

Methods to wipe a print head are described. In an example of a method, an amount of treatment fluid is determined based on a temperature of the print head and the print head is wiped with the determined amount of treatment fluid and a wiping medium.

Example apparatus is disclosed, including apparatus for print head maintenance, the apparatus comprising a print mead maintenance device to perform a print head maintenance operation on a print head during a printing process, and a controller to cause the print head maintenance device to perform the print head maintenance operation with a parameter based on an amount of print agent applied by the print head.

There is provided a maintenance apparatus to, while in a service zone, perform a cleaning operation of a set of printheads within a carriage. The maintenance apparatus comprises a cleaning structure and an actuation mechanism. The actuation mechanism is arranged to position the cleaning structure between an engaged configuration and a disengaged configuration. The disengaged configuration is activated by a first triggering element associated to the carriage interacting with the actuation mechanism subsequent to a cleaning operation. The engaged configuration is activated by a second triggering element as the carriage moves away from the service zone.

Printhead servicing

In an example, a method includes ejecting a print agent drop from a printhead, and determining an indication of velocity of the print agent drop. A weight parameter of the print agent drop may be determined from the indication of velocity.

Weight parameters of print agent drops

Examples associated with printer configuration are disclosed. One example includes printing, using a printer, a first portion of a test patch in a first print direction. A second portion of the test patch is printed in a second print direction. The second portion is printed at a first offset from the first portion. A first portion of a second test patch is printed in the first print direction, and a second portion of the second test patch is printed in the second print direction at a second offset from the first portion of the second test patch. The printer is configured to print in the second print direction using one of the first offset and the second offset based on a selection between the first test patch and the second test patch.

Printer configuration

Herein is described a method involving a drop detector. The method may comprise: ejecting ink drops from the nozzles on a printhead toward a drop detector. A drop characteristic may then be determined from the drop detector for each ink-jet nozzle. Drop characteristics for the nozzles across the printhead may be collated into a data set, and compared with a predetermined data set for a printhead having predetermined print behaviour to determine if and how the data sets differ in terms of the pattern of drop characteristics across the printheads. If the data sets differ, a recovery strategy may be selected based how the data sets differ in terms of the pattern of drop characteristics across the printheads. A system and computer readable medium are also described herein.

Drop detection

There is disclosed a non-transitory machine-readable medium encoded with instructions executable by a processor and comprising instructions to: control print apparatus to print a test patternon a test region of a print medium; receive test data relating to the test patternprinted on the print mediumfrom a sensor; analyse the test data with reference to baseline data to determine if the test patternsatisfies a print quality criterion; output an instruction to operate the print apparatus in a first mode, in which a pre-printing treatment is not applied to the print medium, in response to determining that the test patternsatisfies the print quality criterion, the pre-printing treatment comprising wiping a printing surface of the print medium with a wiper element; and output an instruction to operate the print apparatus in a second mode, in which the pre-printing treatment is applied to the print medium, in response to determining that the test patternsatisfies the print quality criterion.

Examples associated with drop velocity aberrancy detection are disclosed. One example includes firing ink through nozzles of a print-head past sensors to identify drop velocities of the nozzles. A target drop velocity is selected based on the drop velocities of the nozzles. An aberrant nozzles is detected when a nozzle has a drop velocity that deviates from the target drop velocity by a selected threshold. The aberrant nozzle is deactivated, and a good nozzle that will travel over locations traversed by the aberrant nozzle is configured to print portions of a job that would have been printed by the aberrant nozzle.

A printer is disclosed. The printer spits printing fluid from nozzles using a spit pattern. The spit pattern is non-uniform along the spit pattern length.

In some examples, a method includes, in response to a fluid firing unit being operated according to a normal printing mode, applying a first voltage to the fluid firing unit to fire the fluid firing unit during a printing operation. The method further includes determining, using a sensor, whether a predetermined condition is met, and in response to determining that the predetermined condition is met, operating the fluid firing unit according to a recovery mode in which a second voltage higher than the first voltage is applied to the fluid firing unit to clean the fluid firing unit.
