The invention provides a stabilising composition for polymeric materials, comprising: a. a first derivatised phenolic antioxidant; b. at least one secondary arylamine having the formula (I): NHRyRx wherein: the or each R, which may be the same or different, independently denotes an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; x and y are each independently from 0 to 5 provided that at least one of x and y is at least 1; and provided that at least one R is an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group having at least 9 carbon atoms; and c. one or more antioxidant boosters independently selected from: i. a second derivatised phenolic antioxidant having lower steric hindrance than the first derivatised phenolic antioxidant; ii. a hindered amine; iii. an optionally substituted phenothiazine; and also the use of the stabilising composition for stabilising polyol and/or polyurethane; and a stabilised composition comprising a polyol and/or polyurethane and the aforementioned low emission and anti-scorch stabilising composition.

Antioxidant compositions

Solid phosphite compositions comprising tris(4-t-alkylphenyl)phosphites and selected hydroxyalkyl amines exhibit surprising performance compared with other phosphite stabilizers in the stabilization of polymers, such as polyolefins and the like, particularly in the prevention of color formation during high temperature processing or when exposed to certain gasses during storage, e.g., 'gas fading'.

Phosphite compositions

Processes for alkylating hydroxyaryl compounds by reacting a hydroxyaryl with at least one olefin of a complex hydrocarbon stream. The complex hydrocarbon stream preferably comprises a fraction of a cracked hydrocarbon feed stream or the reaction products of a dehydrogenation of a paraffinic feedstock. The olefin of the complex hydrocarbon stream is preferably a branched olefin, e.g., isobutylene or isoamylene. The alkylated compositions are suitable for forming liquid phosphite compositions.

Liquid phosphite compositions having different alkyl groups

The invention is directed to various alkylaryl phosphite compositions that ideally are suitable for use as secondary antioxidants in polymers. In one aspect, the phosphite composition comprises a tris(monoalkylaryl)phosphite in an amount from 51 to 95 weight percent; and at least one of: a bis(monoalkylaryl)dialkylaryl phosphite; a bis(dialkylaryl)monoalkylaryl phosphite; and a tris(dialkylaryl)phosphite. The inventive phosphite composition is a solid at ambient conditions. The invention also relates to alkylate compositions and processes for forming such alkylate compositions and such phosphite compositions.

Solid alkylaryl phosphite compositions and methods for manufacturing same

A polymer stabilizing composition comprising a sterically hindered phenol and a phosphite that provides low gel content and enhanced resistance to gas-fading. The stabilizer composition is particular useful for stabilizing polyethylene homopolymers and copolymers, such as linear low density polyethylenes produced from metallocene catalyst. The sterically hindered phenol is, for example, selected from the group consisting of 1,3,5-tris-(4-tert-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-dicyclohexyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris(4-t-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)-1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-(1H,3H,5H)-trione, and 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene.

Polymers with low gel content and enhanced gas-fading

Disclosed herein is a process for the preparation of a mixture of styrenated p-cresol species that is liquid at room temperature and has a viscosity of less than 40,000 cps at 25&#xb0; C., wherein said process affords 2,6-distyrenated p-cresol assaying at 70% minimum by GC area percent, comprising reacting styrene with p-cresol at a molar ratio of 1.85 to 2.1:1, respectively, in the presence of an acid catalyst at elevated temperature, wherein said mixture comprises monostyrenated-p-cresol, distyrenated-p-cresol, and tristyrenated-p-cresol and exhibits an acid number of less than 0.1 mg KOH/gram.

Stabilization of polymers with styrenated-p-cresols

A polymer stabilizing composition comprising a sterically hindered phenol and a phosphite that provides low gel content and enhanced resistance to gas-fading. The phosphite preferably is a liquid phosphite composition comprising two or more alkylated aryl phosphites.

A composition at least two different phosphites, one of which is derived from an alkylated cresol, wherein the composition is a liquid at ambient conditions. The other phosphites may be derived from alkylated cresol, alkylated phenol or other alkylated hydroxyaryl compounds. The cresol may be mono-alkylated or di-alkylated with a C-Calkyl group.

Liquid butylaryl phosphite compositions

The invention is directed to various alkylaryl phosphite compositions that ideally are suitable for use as secondary antioxidants in polymers. In one aspect, the phosphite composition comprises a tris(dialkylaryl)phosphite in an amount from 20 to 93 weight percent; and at least one of: a bis(dialkylaryl)monoalkylaryl phosphite; a bis(monoalkylaryl)dialkylaryl phosphite; and a tris(monoalkylaryl)phosphite. The inventive phosphite composition is a solid at ambient conditions. The invention also relates to alkylate compositions and processes for forming such alkylate compositions and such phosphite compositions.

Alkylate compositions comprising a monoamylphenol in an amount ranging from 25 weight percent to 99 weight percent and a diamylphenol in an amount ranging from 1 weight percent to 60 weight percent, the weight percentages being based on the total weight of all components in the alkylate composition. The invention is also to processes for making such alkylate compositions and to processes for forming stable liquid amylaryl phosphite compositions from such alkylate compositions.
