The present disclosure is related to articles (e.g., containers, battery packs, etc.) including a lithium material (e.g., one or more lithium-containing batteries) housed therein. The articles include sulfur hexafluoride located within an interior compartment of the article to provide an inert atmosphere within the interior compartment. The present disclosure is also related to methods of inerting such articles (e.g., containers, battery packs, etc.) with sulfur hexafluoride. Additionally, the present disclosure is related to conveyed (e.g., pumped, blown, etc.) looped cooling apparatuses and systems.

Methods of inerting lithium-containing batteries and associated containers

The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for the treatment of a disease, e.g., cancer or pathogenic infection, using a bioconjugated nanoparticle comprising a biocompatible quantum dot conjugated to a targeting moiety. The targeting moiety allows for the nanopaticle to bind to a cancer cell or pathogenic organism. The quantum dot, upon excitation by soft x-rays, emits electromagnetic radiation at a frequency of ultraviolet light, thereby allowing for the disruption of the DNA found in the cancer cell or pathogenic organism.

Bioconjugated nanoparticles

The present disclosure relates to a self-contained, random scattering laser generating device comprising a housing comprises an opening and an inner chamber, at least one quantum dot positioned inside the inner chamber, a high-energy emitting source positioned within the inner chamber and in radioactive communication with the at least one quantum dot, and a first lasing medium. The present disclosure also relates to a method comprising providing at least one quantum dot, contacting the at least one quantum dot with a high-energy emitting source whereby randomly scattered light is produced, partially coherently amplifying the randomly scattered light emitted from the at least one quantum dot, and generating a random scattering laser.

Self-contained random scattering laser devices

A solar powered radiometric lift device operable to generate sustained lift is disclosed. A hot surface powered by solar energy and a colder surface are utilized to generate a pressure differential via free molecular momentum exchange. An insulating space may be situated between the hot surface and the colder surface, and formed into channels allowing thermal transpiration. The solar powered radiometric lift device is operable to provide sufficient lift for a geostationary stratospheric platform. Embodiments of the solar powered radiometric lift device are further operable to provide station keeping thrust and controllability.

The present disclosure also relates to a method comprising providing at least one quantum dot, contacting the at least one quantum dot with high-energy particles such that light is produced from the at least one quantum dot, and modulating the light produced from the at least one quantum dot.

Radioisotope powered light modulating communication devices

Methods and systems for X-ray imaging enable inspection of an area of an object that is located separate and apart from a location of an X-ray generator. An X-ray imaging system includes an X-ray generator to generate X-rays. A collimator filters the generated X-rays to consolidate the generated X-rays and move the generated X-rays in a direction parallel to a centerline axis of the collimator. A small diameter tube transmits the directed X-rays and an end retainer emits the transmitted X-rays at an inspection object. A first filter of the collimator may initially filter the generated X-rays that are not parallel to the centerline axis of the collimator by passing the X-rays through a plurality of apertures. A second filter of the collimator may consolidate the generated X-rays and move the generated X-rays in a direction parallel to the centerline axis of the collimator by passing the generated X-rays through a channel.

The present disclosure relates to illumination devices and methods of generating light for extended periods of time without requiring an outside source of power, recharging, refueling or maintenance. The devices of the present disclosure comprise a plurality of quantum dots and a radioisotope, and may be used in numerous ways, for example, for the marking critical areas or paths, for the illumination of pathways in aircraft, ships, trains, buildings, and other facilities where these routes must be precisely delineated or identified for safety reasons, for the inclusion of signs or other indicia that must be illuminated at all times, as well as many military uses, such as for the demarcation of temporary airfields for fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters or for IFF (identification friend or foe).

Quantum dot illumination devices and methods of use

The present disclosure relates to a non-invasive and real-time diagnostic analysis concept for an operational single mode optical fiber communication system and methods of using said system. The system comprises an optical fiber capable of being diagnosed non-invasively comprising an optical fiber for conveying a light beam that comprises an optical fiber comprising a first end for receiving the light beam and a second end opposed thereto, a core comprising an inner wall, and a cladding surrounding the core, the optical fiber further comprising at least one uncladded portion comprising a plurality of quantum dots dispersed in a medium, and wherein the quantum dots become activated by evanescent wave coupling resulting from total internal reflection of the light beam contacting the inner wall of the optical fiber core and wherein the activation results in emittance of light from the quantum dots.

Quantum dot-mediated optical fiber information retrieval systems and methods of use

A transparent conductive coating (TCC) formed from gallium nitride GaN on a sapphire substrate. In order to account for the lattice mismatch between the GaN and the sapphire substrate, a nucleation layer is formed on the sapphire substrate. A mask, for example, silicon dioxide SiO , is formed on top of the nucleation layer with a plurality of openings. GaN is grown through the openings in the mask to form a lateral epitaxial overgrowth layer upon which defect-free GaN is grown. The lateral epitaxial overgrowth compensates for the lattice mismatch between the sapphire substrate and the GaN. The use of a sapphire substrate eliminates the need for a cover glass and also significantly reduces the cost of the TCC, since such sapphire substrates are about {fraction (1/7)} the cost of germanium substrates. The TCC may then be disposed on a GaAs solar cell. In order to compensate for the lattice mismatches between the GaAs and the GaN, an indium gallium phosphate InGaP may be disposed between the GaAs solar cell and the GaN TCC to compensate for the lattice mismatch between the GaN and the GaAs. In order to further compensate for the lattice mismatch between the GaN and InGaP, the interface may be formed as a super lattice or as a graded layer. Alternatively, the interface between the GaN and the InGaP may be formed by the offset method or by wafer fusion. The TCC, in accordance with the present invention, is able to compensate for the lattice mismatches at the interfaces of the TCC while eliminating the need for a cover glass and a relatively expensive germanium substrate.

Gallium nitride collector grid solar cell

A transparent electrical conductor which provides relatively high electrical conductivity and transmittance in the visible/near-infrared (VNIR), relative to known transparent electrical conductors, such as tin-doped indium oxide (ITO). In one embodiment of the invention, the transparent electrical conductor is formed from a plurality of quantum wells formed between the interfaces of three layers of lattice-matched, wide band gap materials, such as AlGaN and GaN. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a material with a band gap much larger than known materials used for such transparent electrical conductors, such as ITO, is selected. Both embodiments of the invention may be formed on a transparent substrate and provide relatively better transmittance in the VNIR at sheet electrical resistances of four or less ohms/square than known materials, such as tin-doped indium oxide (ITO).

High electron mobility transparent conductor

A high precision replication system creates a nearly atomic level replica. The basic building block of the replication system is a substrate with a smooth replication surface which is to be replicated, and a graded transition layer applied to the replication surface. The graded transition layer comprises a binding material that adheres strongly to the replication surface and a release material that adheres to the replication surface with substantially less force than does the binding material. The portion of the transition layer closest to the substrate comprises predominantly the binding material, and the portion of the transition layer farthest from the substrate comprises predominantly the release material. A separation layer is applied to the transition layer, followed by a coating. The coating provides a backing to the separation layer, acting as structural support to the separation layer. The coating with the separation layer adhered thereto is then separated from the transition layer, thereby providing a high fidelity replica.
