A deburring and cleaning maching and process for cleaning and deburring both interior and exterior portions of articles. The process includes mounting the article to be cleaned and deburred in a mounting means and then imparting vibratory movement to an exciter member. A vibration conduction means transfers the vibrations directly to the mounting means. Abrasive media is cascaded over, around, and through the article as it is vibrated within the substantially open space in a framework. The machine utilizes a substantially open framework. A mounting means is positioned within the framework. An exciter member is operatively connected to a vibratory means. A vibration conduction means transfers vibration from the exciter plate directly to the mounting plate. A cascading means is positioned above the fixture to direction abrasive media upon any article to the fixture as it is vibrated.

Devurring and cleaning machine and process

An improved heat treating basket is disclosed for retaining parts on a heat treating tray as the parts are conveyed through a heat treatment process. The basket includes a plurality of side members attached together by connecting pins. Each side member has a thickness which tapers along the length thereof, on both an inner and an outer surface, to a narrow dimension located approximately halfway therebetween. The tapers equalizes the thermal gradient of the side member thereby prolonging the useful life of the heat treatment basket.

A deburring and cleaning machine and process designed to successfully clean work pieces such as castings, machined parts, and the like. The machine is characterized by a freely open work piece mounting plate movable in a predetermined pattern while simultaneously allowing free falling abrasion media to fall over, around and through the work piece. The method involves positioning a work piece in an open treating area, moving the work piece in a predetermined pattern through the treating area, and simultaneously free-falling abrasive media cascading over, around and through the work piece. The open treating area and the free-fall cascading of abrasive media provide improved cleaning and deburring of internal passageways, free falling abrasive media cascading, etc.

Deburring and cleaning machine and process

A method for determining the expected consumption rate of graphite electrodes is disclosed. An electrical signal is applied to a number of electrodes to generate eddy currents therein which are sensed to provide eddy current values. The consumption rate of the electrodes in use in an electric arc metallurgical furnace are measured. A standard eddy current value (with respect to the measured consumption rates) is determined, for example, by plotting the eddy current values and measured consumption rates. Thereafter, eddy current values obtained from other electrodes are compared with the standard eddy current value to determine the expected consumption rate.

Method for evaluating electrode consumption rate

A new, accurate method for the determination of percent total carbon in a molten hypoeutectic or hypereutectic iron is disclosed. It has been found that percent total carbon content of a molten iron is related to a straight-line function of the difference in liquidus and eutectoid transformation (i.e., austenite to pearlite) temperatures of the iron. A standard liquidus - eutectoid transformation temperature difference (based on total carbon content) is generated. A molten iron sample is cooled through the eutectoid transformation temperature and the difference in the liquidus and eutectoid transformation temperatures is compared with the standard liquidus-eutectoid transformation temperature difference to determine the percent total carbon of the sample.
