A low viscosity energy curable epoxy resin composition essentially free of solvent for preparing an ink composition comprising: (a) at least one divinylarene dioxide compound, (b) at least one cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, (c) at least one vinyl ether compound, (d) at least one cationic photoinitiator, (e) at least one pigment, and (f) optionally, at least one oxetane; wherein (i) the viscosity of the curable composition is less than or equal to about 50 mPa&#xb7;s at 25&#xb0; C., (ii) the composition cures at a relative humidity of greater than 30%, and (iii) the composition cures with an increase in cure time of less than 100% when the composition is cured at a relative humidity of at least 70% compared to that of a composition that is cured at a relative humidity of less than or equal to 45%. The curable epoxy resin composition is useful, for example, for preparing an ink composition; and more specifically for preparing a solventless low viscosity UV curable inkjet ink composition.

Curable compositions

A heat stable radiation curable epoxy resin composition for preparing an ink composition including: (a) at least one divinylarene dioxide compound; (b) at least one photoinitiator compound; (c) at least one pigment; and (d) at least one optional additive wherein the at least one photoinitiator compound is a triarylsulfonium salt; wherein the at least one pigment is (i) a cyan pigment, or (ii) a magenta pigment; a process for preparing the above heat stable radiation curable epoxy resin composition; and a cured inkjet ink product prepared by curing the above heat stable radiation curable epoxy resin composition.

A treated cellulosic material comprising a cellulosic material having a porous structure defining a plurality of pores, at least a portion of the pores containing a treating agent comprising a cured low viscosity epoxy resin. The present disclosure further describes a method for preparing a treated cellulosic material comprising (a) providing a cellulosic material; and (b) a first treatment protocol comprising impregnating the cellulosic material with a liquid epoxy resin.

A curable resin composition comprising: a) an epoxy resin; b) an anhydride hardener; c) a polyol; d) a core shell rubber, and (e) a catalyst, is disclosed. When cure the resin composition can be used to formulate composites, coatings, laminates, and adhesives.

Toughened epoxy thermosets containing core shell rubbers and polyols

A curable divinylarene dioxide resin composition including (a) at least one divinylarene dioxide, (b) at least one cationic photoinitiator, and (c) optionally, at least one pigment material; a process for making the curable divinylarene dioxide resin composition; and a cured divinylarene dioxide resin composition made therefrom. The cured product made from the above curable divinylarene dioxide resin composition offers improved properties and are useful for various applications including ink formulations.

Divinylarene dioxide resin compositions

A process for preparing a conductive carbonized layered article including the steps of: (I) providing a liquid carbon precursor formulation comprising (a) at least one aromatic epoxy resin; and (b)(i) at least one aromatic co-reactive curing agent, (b) (ii) at least one catalytic curing agent, or (b)(iii) a mixture thereof; wherein the liquid precursor composition has a neat viscosity of less than 10,000 mPa-s at 25&#xb0; C. prior to adding optional components, prior to curing, and prior to carbonizing; and wherein the liquid precursor composition being cured has a carbon yield of at least 35 weight percent disregarding the weight of the substrate and any optional components present in the composition; (II) applying the liquid formulation of step (I) as a thin coating layer onto at least a portion of the surface of a substrate; (III) curing the liquid formulation of step (II) to form a cured product, wherein the cured product has a carbon yield of at least 35 weight percent disregarding the weight of the substrate and any optional components present in the composition; and (IV) carbonizing the cured product of step (III) to form a conductive carbonized layered article; and a conductive carbonized layered article such as a carbon optical transparent electrode (COTE) prepared by the above process.

Conductive carbonized layered article

A cyclic carbonate monomer including the reaction product of (a) a divinylarene dioxide, and (b) carbon dioxide; a process for making the cyclic carbonate monomer; and a polymer such as a poly(hydroxyurethane) composition made therefrom. The poly(hydroxyurethane) composition made from the above cyclic carbonate monomer forms a reactive intermediate that can be used for making, for example, a poly(hydroxyurethane) foam product.

A transformative wavelength conversion medium is provided, comprising: a phosphor; and, a curable liquid component, wherein the curable liquid component, comprises: an aliphatic resin component, wherein the aliphatic resin component has an average of two epoxide groups per molecule; and, a curing agent; wherein the curable liquid component contains less than 0.5 wt % of monoepoxide molecules (based on the total weight of the aliphatic resin component); and, wherein the curable liquid component is a liquid at 25&#xb0; C. and atmospheric pressure; and, wherein the phosphor is dispersed in the curable liquid component.

A process for preparing a carbon-carbon composite including the steps of: (a) providing a curable low viscosity aromatic epoxy resin liquid formulation, wherein the formulation has a neat viscosity of less than 10,000 mPa-s at 25&#xb0; C. prior to adding optional components, prior to curing, and prior to carbonizing; and wherein the formulation being cured has a carbon yield of at least 35 wt % disregarding the weight of the carbon matrix and any optional components present in the composition; (b) contacting a carbon matrix with the formulation of step (a); (c) curing the contacted carbon matrix of step (b); and (d) carbonizing the cured carbon matrix of step (c) to form a carbon-carbon composite; and a carbon-carbon composite made by the process.

Carbon&#x2014;carbon composites

A process for preparing a vitreous carbon including the steps of: (I) providing a curable low viscosity liquid carbon precursor formulation comprising (a) at least one aromatic epoxy resin; and (b)(i) at least one aromatic co-reactive curing agent, (b) (ii) at least one catalytic curing agent, or (b)(iii) a mixture thereof; wherein the liquid precursor composition has a neat viscosity of less than 10,000 mPa&#xb7;s at 25&#xb0; C. prior to adding optional components, prior to curing, and prior to carbonizing; and wherein the liquid precursor composition being cured has a carbon yield of at least 35 weight percent as measured in the absence of optional components; (II) curing the liquid formulation from step (I) to form a cured product wherein the cured product has a carbon yield of at least 35 weight percent as measured in the absence of optional components; (III) carbonizing the cured product from step (II) to form a carbonized composition; and (IV) purifying the carbonized product from step (III) to form a vitreous carbon composition; and a vitreous carbon prepared by the above process.

Vitreous carbon composition

A transformative wavelength conversion medium is provided, comprising: a phosphor; and, a curable liquid component, wherein the curable liquid component, comprises: an aliphatic resin component, wherein the aliphatic resin component has an average of at least two epoxide groups per molecule; and, a curing agent; wherein the curable liquid component contains less than 0.5 wt % of monoepoxide molecules (based on the total weight of the aliphatic resin component); wherein the curable liquid component contains 1 to 90 wt % of polyepoxide molecules containing at least three epoxide groups per molecule (based on the total weight of the aliphatic resin component); and, wherein the curable liquid component is a liquid at 25&#xb0; C. and atmospheric pressure; wherein the phosphor is dispersed in the curable liquid component.

A curable composition including (a) at least one divinylarene dioxide; (b) at least one polyol; and (c) at least one latent cure catalyst.

Latent catalyst for curable compositions

A curable composition including (a) at least one divinylarene dioxide; (b) at least one phenol, wherein the phenol is unsubstituted at a 2-, 4-, or 6-phenolic ring position; and (c) at least one acid compound-related cure catalyst; and a cured product made from the above curable composition.

A curable divinylarene dioxide resin composition including (a) at least one divinylarene dioxide, and (b) at least one diphenol curing agent; a process for making the curable divinylarene dioxide resin composition; and a cured divinylarene dioxide resin composition made therefrom. The cured product made from the above curable divinylarene dioxide resin composition offers improved properties such as lower viscosity and a high heat resistance compared to known cured products prepared from known epoxy resins.

An epoxy-functional resin composition including the reaction product of (a) a stoichiometric excess of at least one divinylarene dioxide, and (b) at least one of: a primary (1&#xb0;) monoamine, a bis-secondary (2&#xb0;) amine lacking nitrogen atoms, or mixtures thereof; a curable composition including (i) the epoxy-functional resin composition, and (ii) at least one curing agent; and a cured thermoset resin prepared from the curable composition.
