A transmitting device may implement a checksum for integrity verification for a message page during an auto-negotiation period. The checksum may provide redundancy to ensure the integrity of the message page after transmission. The checksum may be calculated based on the message page and appended to the message page for transmission. A receiving device may receive the message page with the appended checksum and calculate a checksum locally using the received message page. The calculated and received checksum may be compared by the receiving device to verify the integrity of the message.

Message page integrity verification in automotive network auto-negotiation

A network device includes a communication interface and a transmitter coupled to the communication interface. The transmitter is configured to determine to start an auto-negotiation page with a link partner, and transmit, through the communication interface, a start delimiter for the auto-negotiation page. The transmitter transmits the start delimiter by transmitting a first pulse comprising a first encoding violation, followed by a second pulse comprising a second encoding violation. The transmitter may shorten the first pulse and the second pulse relative to a different pre-defined start delimiter to define spectral content for the first pulse and the second pulse that passes different first and second receiver filters in the link partner for different first and second communication standards.

A system and method for tunneling control over a MAC/PHY interface for legacy ASIC support. Energy efficient Ethernet control or status information can be communicated over a MAC/PHY interface using control codes that are embedded in sequence ordered sets. These sequence ordered sets would not affect the data flow and can be tunneled within an existing interface (e.g., XAUI, XFI, xxMII or derivative interfaces) without generating errors.

System and method for tunneling control over a MAC/PHY interface for legacy ASIC support

In a network having a first node and a second node, a method of verifying a lane routing between the first node and the second node. The first node and the second node operate according to a protocol in which: (1) a character is converted to code groups, (2) each code group has a corresponding lane, and (3) the code groups are communicated across the lanes in a parallel manner. A first set of code groups is transmitted from the first node. Preferably, the first set of code groups is different from a set of code groups predefined by the protocol. A second set of code groups is received at the second node. The second set of code groups corresponds to the first set of code groups. A determination is made whether the second set of code groups matches the first set of code groups. An identity of the first set of code groups can be preprogrammed within the second node. Preferably, the first set of code groups has a different code group in each lane. Optionally, the lane routing between the first node and the second node is corrected if the second set of code groups mismatches the first set of code groups.

Verification and correction of 10GBASE-X lane routing between nodes

In a network having nodes that operate according to a protocol that defines a node as being in an idle mode when the node is not transmitting or receiving a packet, a method of communicating between nodes during the idle mode. A message formatted according to the protocol is generated. The message is different from messages predefined by the protocol for transmission during the idle mode. For example, the message can comprise a first portion that reports a link status condition. The message can further comprise a second portion that reports a cause of the link status condition. The message is transmitted from a first node of the network when the first node is in the idle mode. The message is received at a second node of the network when the second node is in the idle mode.

Programmable Q-ordered sets for in-band link signaling

A method and system for identifying a bit pattern in a data stream including a plurality of bits each having a first or second state, the method includes identifying a number of mismatching bits, within a subset of the plurality of bits, having the first state and corresponding to a bit having the second state within the pattern; identifying a number of bits in the subset having the first state; and, identifying a number of bits in the pattern having the second state. A number of matches of between the subset and the pattern is dependent on the identified number of mismatching bits, the identified number of bits in the subset having the first state and the identified number of bits in the pattern having the second state.
