In a non-limiting and exemplary embodiment, a method is provided for arranging wireless communications, comprising: establishing, by an apparatus, a connection with an access point, detecting location of the access point, detecting accuracy of the detected location of the access point, and in response to detecting the detected location of the access point to be more accurate than an earlier stored location of the access point, updating the detected location to a location database of the apparatus.

Method and apparatus for maintaining access point information

Apparatus comprising a first antenna configured to receive alignment signalling from a first transmitter over a first communication channel, the first communication channel having a first set of characteristics, and a second antenna configured to exchange data w.th a second transmitter over a second communication channel, the second communication channel having a second different set of characteristics. The apparatus also comprising a processor configured to process the alignment signalling received from the first antenna and determine the location of the second transmitter relative to the apparatus; and generate control signalling representative of the determined location of the second transmitter relative to the apparatus. The apparatus further comprising a user interface configured to provide a user with an indication of the relative location of the second transmitter relative to the apparatus in accordance with the control signalling to allow for the second antenna to be aligned for data exchange with the second transmitter.

Apparatus and method for antenna alignment

An electronic device has first and second circuitry. A wireless trigger signal at the first circuitry causes the second circuitry to power up to receive a second wireless signal. The second signal is according to a radio access technology for which the trigger signal is incompatible. In various embodiments the first circuitry (a low power receiver) may autonomously power up upon expiration of a timer. One or more security checks can be performed at various steps, each step conditional on passing the previous security check. The first circuitry operates at a lower power than the second circuitry which comprises a broadband radio. For example, the first circuitry might be a Bluetooth low energy receiver, and a trigger signal there causes a WLAN receiver to power up in order to download software/firmware updates or user content while the device is enroute between the manufacturer and end user.

Wirelessly transferring data to a packaged electronic device

A system for providing positioning information within a wireless communication signal. An example process may start by positioning resources being activated in an apparatus. Activation of the positioning resources may occur automatically, in response to user interaction, etc. The apparatus may then engage in a discovery process via wireless communication in order to identify other apparatuses within communication range that are enabled to transmit positioning information. Upon discovering another apparatus, the apparatus may interact with the other apparatus in order to determine a location for the other apparatus. For example, the apparatus may transmit one or more messages comprising a request for positioning information from the other apparatus, and may in turn receive one or more messages from the other apparatus comprising positioning information. The apparatus may then utilize the positioning information to determine its position (e.g., relative to the other apparatus).

Transmitting positioning information via wireless communication

A system for providing positioning-related information within wireless communication signals. For example, an apparatus (e.g., acting as a tracker) may receive one or more messages advertising the presence of another apparatus (e.g., acting as a target). The advertisement messages may further comprise information indicating the availability of positioning-related information from the target apparatus. The tracker device may then determine, based on the received information, that positioning-related interaction with the target apparatus is available. If determined to be available, the tracker and target may interact with each other in order to initiate positioning-related information transmission. After receiving at least one message comprising positioning-related information from the target apparatus, the tracker apparatus may then determine at least one of a relative direction towards or from the target apparatus based on the received positioning-related information.

Facilitating positioning through Bluetooth low energy wireless messaging

Apparatus comprising a first antenna configured to receive alignment signalling from a first transmitter over a first communication channel, the first communication channel having a first set of characteristics, and a second antenna configured to exchange data with a second transmitter over a second communication channel, the second communication channel having a second different set of characteristics. The apparatus also comprising a processor configured to process the alignment signalling received from the first antenna and determine the location of the second transmitter relative to the apparatus; and generate control signalling representative of the determined location of the second transmitter relative to the apparatus. The apparatus further comprising a user interface configured to provide a user with an indication of the relative location of the second transmitter relative to the apparatus in accordance with the control signalling to allow for the second antenna to be aligned for data exchange with the second transmitter.

Apparatus and methods

In a non-limiting and exemplary embodiment, a method is provided arranging control of multiple radio systems of a wireless communications device. A second scheduler performs proactive scheduling decisions on the basis of radio resource usage requirements of radio systems of the wireless communications terminal device and sending information on the proactive scheduling decision to a first scheduler. The first scheduler performs reactive scheduling decisions on the basis of the proactive scheduling decision information from the second scheduler.

Multiradio control

A method for scheduling communications over a wireless communication subsystem and a radio frequency identification (RFID) communication subsystem comprising determining one or more periods of activity of the wireless communication subsystem; deriving one or more periods of non-activity on the basis of the one or more determined periods of activity; synchronizing an operation of the radio frequency identification (RFID) communication subsystem with the one or more periods of non-activity; and triggering the operation of the radio frequency identification (RFID) communication subsystem in accordance with the one or more derived periods of non-activity to enable substantially concurrent communications operation of the wireless communication subsystem and the radio frequency identification (RFID) communication subsystem.

Methodology, module, terminal, and system enabling scheduled operation of a radio frequency identification (RFID) subsystem and a wireless communication subsystem

A system, comprising: a first low power wireless transceiver; a second low power wireless transceiver configured to transmit a first positioning request to the first low power wireless transceiver over a low power wireless link; a cellular radio transceiver configured, in response to the first low power wireless transceiver receiving the first positioning request, to transmit a second positioning request to a base station of a cellular network, and configured to receive, as a reply to the second positioning request, first positioning data from the base station of the cellular network; wherein the first low power wireless transceiver is configured to transmit second positioning data, determined by the first positioning data, to the second low power wireless transceiver over the low power wireless link as a reply to the first positioning request.

Apparatus, system and method for determining position by use of a low power wireless link

A method for controlling a number of simultaneous radio connections in a communication device is presented. The control of a number of simultaneous radio connections is carried out in the communication device. Parameters of the radio connections are controlled such that interference between the radio connections is minimized.

Method and device for controlling radio access

An apparatus for short-range wireless communications includes a transceiver configured to operate different modes. Each of these modes corresponds to a particular wireless link type. In addition, the apparatus includes a controller for selectively activating one of the operational modes of the transceiver. The controller sends one or more operational parameters to components within transmitter and receiver portions of the transceiver, such as filters, amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, and digital-to-analog converters. Such parameters control the operational characteristics of these components.

Reconfigurable wireless communications device and radio

A system for managing the operation of a plurality of radio modems contained within the same WCD. One or more of the plurality of radio modems may be a dual-mode radio modem enabled to communicate using at least two separate radio protocols concurrently. The operation of the one or more dual-mode modems may be managed by resources encompassed in a radio modem interface coupled to, or integrated within, the dual-mode radio modem. These management resources may receive information from the operating system level of the WCD and from the at least two radio modem stacks utilizing the resources of the dual mode radio modem in order to coordinate the operation of the at least two radio protocols concurrently active in the modem.

System for managing radio modems

A security enhancing system for creating temporary identification information used to mask actual identification in a wireless communication device. The temporary identification information conforms to a standard usable by at least one wireless communication medium, and may be used by other devices in communicating with the wireless communication device, however, only other devices possessing secret address component information may determine the actual identity of the masked wireless communication device. The temporary identification information may further be recompiled when a threshold condition is satisfied.

Address privacy in short-range wireless communication

Systems and methods that are adapted to avoid radio frequency interference originating from modules, peripherals and interconnects of a mobile terminal that are generating unintentional radiation (e.g. memory cards, camera flashes, data buses etc.) and coupling to the radios of the same mobile terminal are disclosed. The systems may include a controller unit that schedules the operation of the components to avoid concurrent operation of radios and sensitive peripheral devices which may interfere with each other during concurrent operation.
