A neural network computing engine having an array of charge-trap-transistor (CTT) elements which are utilized as analog multipliers with all weight values preprogrammed into each CTT element as a CTT threshold voltage, with multiplicator values received from the neural network inference mode. The CTT elements perform computations of a fully connected (FC) neural network with each CTT element representing a neuron. Row resistors for each row of CTT element sum output currents as partial summation results. Counted pulse generators write weight values under control of a pulse generator controller. A sequential analog fabric (SAF) feeds multiple drain voltages in parallel to the CTT array to enable parallel analog computations of neurons. Partial summation results are read by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC).

Memristive neural network computing engine using CMOS-compatible charge-trap-transistor (CTT)

We have demonstrated that the bandwidth millimeter wavelengths offer can be leveraged to deeply spread a low-data rate signal below the thermal floor of the environment (sub-thermal) by lowered transmit power combined with free space losses, while still being successfully received through a novel dispreading structure which does not rely on pre-detection to extract timing information. The demonstrated data link ensures that it cannot be detected beyond a designed range from the transmitter, while still providing reliable communication. A demonstration chipset of this sub-thermal concept was implemented in a 28 nm CMOS technology and when combined with an InP receiver was shown to decode signals up to 30 dB below the thermal noise floor by spreading a 9600 bps signal over 1 GHz of RF bandwidth from 93 to 94 GHz using a 64 bit spreading code. The transmitter for this chipset consumed 62 mW while the receiver consumed 281 mw.

Sub-thermal spread spectrum data-link

A silicon metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor with a wide-bandgap III-V compound semiconductor drain and a method for fabricating the same are disclosed. The method fabricates a hundred nanometer-scale hole in a (100) silicon substrate to expose the (111) facet of the silicon substrate, which favors to use selective area growth to form lattice matched III-V materials with high quality.

A low-cost single-layer mobile touch-screen is disclosed, including a highly sensitive capacitive sensing circuit, and a corresponding finger 3D position estimation and gesture recognition algorithms compatible with mobile device platforms and that can be readily programmed into the mobile device's application processor.

A frequency hopping continuous wave (FHCW) radar system which utilizes a one-coincidence sequence to create a form of FH multiplexing to allow discerning returning signals from interference. An EHC code generator sends codes to an FH waveform generator coupled to a transmitter. A receiver outputs a received signal to a correlator which correlates received signal with a delayed transmitted signal, and sends results for digital signal processing to determine target range and velocity. Use of the one-coincidence sequence provides for the interference level to be well managed and below the radar return signal; assuring that the returning radar signals can be discerned from interference.

Unmanned aerial vehicle and method using the same

A system, apparatus and method are disclosed for communicating between a short range wireless (WLAN) user device, such as a wearable, phone, or tablet, with a base station. Traditional low power communication (e.g., WLAN, WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular links, etc.) involve an inefficient amplification process of a signal from the WLAN user to the base station, whereby significant power must be expended in the WLAN user device making it unsuitable in many applications. A reflector link paradigm is disclosed in which the user device communicates by modulating the extent of signal reflected back to the base station. An enhanced reflector is also disclosed which overcomes adverse effects of ambient reflections.

A wireless receiving device is provided. The wireless receiving device includes a first passive mixer and a common gate amplifier. The first passive mixer receives an oscillation signal. The common gate amplifier is coupled to the first passive mixer, and automatically adjusts the input impedance of the common gate amplifier according to the oscillation frequency of the oscillation signal.

A backscatter modulator for providing low power wireless communications. The disclosed modulator provides phase control for discriminating backscatter from the antenna versus other objects. In addition, the disclosed backscatter modulator provides amplitude modulation so that the technique can provide a non-constant envelope which can provide an intentional imbalance to manipulate super-position to provide envelope control of the reflected signal, while still maintaining the frequency translation properties. The disclosed backscatter modulator thus allows compatibility with QAM, OFDM and other non-constant envelope modulation schemes to be backscattered, while still supporting the frequency translation behavior.

Communication between a wireless base-station and a microwave reflector link are enhanced by feeding back a portion of the transmitter signal, adjusted for phase and amplitude, to cancel ambient reflection blocker signals being received at the base-station. The microwave reflector link does not utilize a transmitter gain stage, but communicates data back to the base-station in response to modulating the reflections of its antenna (e.g., in gain and/or phase). The disclosure aids in the proper amplification and processing of reflection signals from the microwave reflector link, by canceling out the blocking signals which arise as background objects reflect transmitter signal energy back to the base-station.

Reduction of unmodulated ambient blockers in reflected data links through manipulation or replication of the transmitting signal source

Non-contact position and motion sensing is improved for oscillator frequency based sensors in response to adding a two phase calibration along with bootstrapping circuit. Calibration is performed across the multiple sensor channels, so that: (1) maximum sensor channel loading is determined, and (2) the amount of capacitive load required for each other channel to match this same maximum load is stored for application to that channel during non-contact sensing. Capacitive coupling between channels is nullified by a bootstrapping process, in which time-domain voltage on the active channel is replicated on the non-active channels during non-contact sensing, thus creating equal potentials across inter-channel couplings that effectively eliminate inter-channel capacitive loading.

Bootstrapped and correlated double sampling (BCDS) non-contact touch sensor for mobile devices

A wireless wearable high data throughput (big data) brain machine interface apparatus is presented. An implanted recording and transmitting module collects neural data from a plurality of implanted electrodes and wirelessly transmits this over a short distance to a wearable (not implanted) receiving and forwarding module, which communicates the data over a wired communication to a mobile post processing device. The post processing device can send this neural data to an external display or computer enabled device for viewing and/or manipulation. High data throughput is supported by aggregating multiple groups of electrodes by multiple n-channel recording elements, which are multiplexed and then modulated into high frequency wireless communications to the wearable module. Embodiments include use of multiple radiators (multiple polarizations and/or spatially distributed), with beam alignment adjustment.

Wireless wearable big data brain machine interface

A wave cable transceiver system is disclosed incorporating an air-core or noble gas filled hollow plastic waveguide. The system may include a transmitter receiver, in-antennas and a tubular plastic waveguide with the inner air-core. The hollow plastic waveguide is a low loss and low dispersion guiding channel for the electromagnetic radiation.

A chip-to-chip communications circuit which is particularly well-suited for short range communication (less than a few inches) from one integrated circuit (chip) to another is presented. The circuits preferably utilize multi-frequency quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) mechanisms for converting digital data bits from a parallel form into a serial analog stream for communication over a chip I/O connection. Differential current mode modulation in the transmitter, and demodulation in the receiver, are utilized which reduce latency and power-consumption while increasing manufacturing yields and resilience to process variations.

Periodic near field directors (PNFDs) are coupled to a transmitter and a receiver for a short-range millimeter wave wireless (M2W2) interconnect for transmitting and receiving radio frequency (RF) signals at millimeter-wave frequencies for short-range communication with high data rate capability between the transmitter and receiver. Each of the periodic near field directors is comprised of one or more periodic coupling structures (PCSs), wherein the periodic coupling structures are comprised of metallic strips positioned such that their lengthwise dimension is substantially perpendicular to a propagation direction of the radio frequency signals between the transmitter and receiver. Each of the periodic coupling structures is positioned parallel to adjacent periodic coupling structures with a separation distance between each periodic coupling structure being within one wavelength of the radio frequency signal. The periodic near field directors may include first and second periodic near field directors that are coupled to each other for transmitting and receiving the radio frequency signals between the first and second periodic near field directors, wherein there is an air gap between the first and second periodic near field directors.
