At least one image registering unit records at least one series of images representing a subject. A control unit controls an operation sequence for the at least one image registering unit in such a manner that a subsequent data processing unit receives a repeating sequence of image frames there from, wherein each period contains at least one image frame of a first resolution and at least one image frame of a second resolution being different from the first resolution. Based on the registered image frames, the data processing unit produces eye/gaze tracking data with respect to the subject.

Apparatus and method for robust eye/gaze tracking

Circuitry of a gaze/eye tracking system obtains one or more images of a left eye and one or more images a right eye, determines a gaze direction of the left eye based on at least one obtained image of the left eye, determines a gaze direction of the right eye based on at least one obtained image of the right eye, determines a first confidence value based on the one or more obtained images of the left eye, determines a second confidence value based on the one or more obtained images of the right eye, and determines a final gaze direction based at least in part on the first confidence value and the second confidence value. The first and second confidence values represent indications of the reliability of the determined gaze directions of the left eye and the right eye, respectively. Corresponding methods and computer-readable media are also provided.

Reliability of gaze tracking data for left and right eye

An image sensing apparatus has a light sensitive area and a control unit. The light sensitive area registers image data in response to an incoming amount of light, and is operable in an active mode wherein image data can be read out there from as well as in a standby mode wherein image data cannot be read out. The control unit produces a control signal setting the light sensitive area to operate in the active mode and the standby mode respectively in a cyclic manner during an operation period, which preferably encompasses multiple data frame read-outs of image data from the light sensitive area.

Power efficient image sensing apparatus, method of operating the same and eye/gaze tracking system

A visual display includes hidden reference illuminators adapted to emit invisible light for generating corneo-scleral reflections on an eye watching a screen surface of the display. The tracking of such reflections and the pupil center provides input to gaze tracking. A method for equipping and an LCD with a reference illuminator are also provided. Also provides are a system and method for determining a gaze point of an eye watching a visual display that includes reference illuminators. The determination of the gaze point may be based on an ellipsoidal cornea model.

A subject () is illuminated whose movements of at least one eye are to be registered by an eye-tracker for producing resulting data (D). To this aim, a coherent light source in light producing means () produces at least one well-defined light beam (L, L). A diffractive optical element is arranged between the coherent light source and an output from the light producing means (). The diffractive optical element is configured to direct a light beam (L) towards at least a first designated area (A) estimated to cover the at least one eye of the subject (). Image registering means () registers light from the at least one light beam (L, L) having been reflected against the subject (). The resulting data (D) are produced in response to these light reflections, which resulting data (D) represent movements of the at least one eye of the subject ().
