A touch sensing apparatus is disclosed for detecting touch pressure, comprising a panel that defines a touch surface, the panel having a perimeter, a plurality of emitters arranged along the perimeter, wherein the emitters emit light across the panel, a plurality of detectors arranged along the perimeter, whereby the detectors are arranged to receive at least part of said light as detection light, wherein the touch sensing apparatus is configured to determine, as a touch object deflects the panel along a normal of the touch surface, a difference in the received detection light between deflection of the panel from a first position (p) to a second position (p) along the normal, and determine a pressure of the touch object against the touch surface based on said difference.

Touch-sensing apparatus

A touch sensing apparatus is disclosed for detecting touch pressure, comprising a panel that defines a touch surface, the panel having a perimeter, a plurality of emitters arranged along the perimeter, wherein the emitters emit light across the panel, a plurality of detectors arranged along the perimeter, whereby the detectors are arranged to receive at least part of said light as detection light, wherein the touch sensing apparatus is configured to determine, as a touch object deflects the panel along a normal of the touch surface, a difference in the received detection light between deflection of the panel from a first position (p1) to a second position (p) along the normal, and determine a pressure of the touch object against the touch surface based on said difference.

An optical IR touch sensing apparatus configured to determine, based on output signals of light detectors, a light energy value for each light path across a touch surface, and generate a transmission value for each light path based on the light energy value. A processor is then configured to operate an image reconstruction algorithm on at least part of the thus-generated transmission values and determine a position of a touching object on the touch surface, and an attenuation value corresponding to the attenuation of the light resulting from the object touching the touch surface. Using these values, the processor is configured to identify the type of object.

Stylus identification

A method of operating an optical touch apparatus is described wherein, the optical touch apparatus comprising a panel, a plurality of emitters and a plurality of detectors arranged with respect to the panel, the plurality of detectors configured to receive light from the plurality of emitters thereby defining detection samples of light transmitted between pairs of emitters and detectors. The optical touch apparatus being further configured to operate in an ambient light evaluation mode comprising the steps of: generating a first set of samples over a first integration time and a second set of samples over a second integration time using at least one detector, and applying a filter to at least the first and second set of samples to generate a residual ambient light value indicative of ambient light noise, wherein the touch apparatus is configured to perform the following steps: operating according to the ambient light evaluation mode for a plurality of repetitions.

Automatic optimisation of touch signal

A method, gesture interpretation unit and touch sensing device receiving touch input data indicating touch inputs on a touch surface of the touch sensing device, wherein the touch input data comprises positioning data and pressure data for each touch input, and determining from the touch input data: first, second and third touch input from a first, a second and a third object on the touch surface, and wherein the first, second and third objects are present on the touch surface during overlapping time periods; and while continuous contact of the first, second and third objects with the touch surface is maintained: calculating a geometric center of mass, and a pressure center of mass, for the first, second and third touch inputs; comparing the GCM with the determining a movement vector based on the result of the comparison; and moving the graphical interactive object in relation to the movement vector.

Interpretation of pressure based gesture

Invention principally regards a remotely controllable touch-sensing apparatus. The apparatus comprises a planar light guide, a plurality of light emitters arranged to emit light into the light guide for propagation by total internal reflection inside the light guide, and a plurality of light detectors, each being arranged to detect at least a portion of the emitted light propagating inside the light guide and at least a portion of the ambient light, said detectors being distributed along the periphery of the touch surface such that the optical plane of detection of light coincides with the plane of the light guide, at least one of said detectors being adapted to detect light emitted by an external device configured to emit light. The apparatus also comprises a processor unit configured to, ultimately, generate a digital signal containing data regarding light generated by the external device. Invention also regards a method for enabling control of a touch-sensing apparatus by an external device.

Touch-sensing apparatus and a method for enabling control of a touch-sensing apparatus by an external device

A device implements a data processing method for an optical FTIR-based touch system. The touch system defines detection lines across a surface portion of a panel by propagating light inside the panel from a plurality of incoupling points to a plurality of outcoupling points, such that each location on the surface portion is illuminated by incident light rays. At least one light detector is coupled to the outcoupling points to generate an output signal. The device obtains signal values for the detection lines from the output signal and processes the signal values to at least partly compensate for variations in the apparent interaction among the subset of detection lines that interact with an object on the surface portion.
