A peritoneal dialysis ('PD') system includes a housing; a dialysis fluid pump housed by the housing; a dual lumen patient line extending from the housing; a filter set including a final stage filter located along a first line, and which includes a second line in parallel with the first line, the first line in fluid communication with a first lumen of the dual lumen patient line, and the second line in fluid communication with a second lumen of the dual lumen patient line; a pressure sensor located within the housing and positioned so as to sense a static or substantially static PD fluid pressure in the second lumen while fresh PD fluid is pumped through the first lumen and the final stage filter; and a control unit configured to use the sensed static or substantially static pressure in a pressure control routine for the dialysis fluid pump.

The apparatus also includes a fluid line including an upstream fluid line configured to receive electrically conductive treatment fluid from a fluid source and pass the electrically conductive treatment fluid to the fluid inlet of the blood treatment unit and a downstream fluid line connected to the fluid outlet of the blood treatment unit for delivering the used electrically conductive treatment fluid to a fluid sink. The apparatus further includes a flow divider arranged in the downstream fluid line and configured to separate the used electrically conductive treatment fluid in the downstream fluid line into to a first fluid section and a second fluid section, thereby electrically isolating the first and second fluid sections.

A monitoring device operates on a pressure signal from a blood processing apparatus which has an extracorporeal blood circuit for pumping blood through a dialyzer, and a treatment fluid supply system for pumping a treatment fluid through the dialyzer. The monitoring device has a first input block for obtaining a first pressure signal, and a second input block for obtaining a second pressure signal. An emulation block generates, as a function of the second pressure signal, an emulated first pressure signal which emulates a concurrent signal response of the first pressure sensor, and a filtering block generates a filtered signal as a function of the first pressure signal and the emulated first pressure signal, so as to suppress, in the filtered signal compared to the first pressure signal, signal interferences originating from the treatment fluid supply system. A pulse detection block processes the filtered signal for detection of subject pulses.

Blood treatment apparatus with flow divider for limiting an electrical current

A filtering device receives a signal from a pressure sensor in an extracorporeal fluid circuit connected to a subject and processes the signal to separate physiological pulses, e.g. from the subject's heart, from interference pulses, e.g. from a pump in the fluid circuit. The device repeatedly (iteratively) processes a signal segment by alternately subtracting (S) a template signal from the signal segment, and applying a refinement processing (S) to the resulting difference signal to generate a new template signal. By proper selection (S) of the initial template signal, consecutive difference signals will alternately approximate the sequence of interference pulses in the signal segment and the sequence of physiological pulses in the signal segment. The refinement processing (S) aims at alternately cleaning up unwanted residuals from interference pulses and physiological pulses, respectively, in the respective difference signal, so as to improve the accuracy of the template signal between the subtractions.

Separation of interference pulses from physiological pulses in a pressure signal

A monitoring device () operates on a pressure signal from a blood processing apparatus, e.g. a dialysis machine, which has an extracorporeal blood circuit connected to a vascular system of a subject for pumping blood through a dialyzer, and a treatment fluid supply system for pumping a treatment fluid through the dialyzer. The monitoring device () has a first input block () for obtaining a first pressure signal (y) from a first pressure sensor () in the extracorporeal blood circuit, and a second input block () for obtaining a second pressure signal (w) from a second pressure sensor () in the treatment fluid supply system. An emulation block () generates, as a function of the second pressure signal (w), an emulated first pressure signal (y) which emulates a concurrent signal response of the first pressure sensor (), and a filtering block () generates a filtered signal (y) as a function of the first pressure signal (y) and the emulated first pressure signal (y), so as to suppress, in the filtered signal (}y) compared to the first pressure signal (y), signal interferences originating from the treatment fluid supply system (). A pulse detection block () processes the filtered signal (y) for detection of subject pulses originating from the subject.

A blood treatment apparatus adapted to preserve a blood treatment unit between blood treatment sessions. The blood treatment apparatus is configured to i) perform a blood treatment session and thereby use the blood treatment unit, ii) fill the blood treatment unit with a preservation fluid comprising at least one treatment fluid concentrate of a type that is used to prepare the treatment fluid, iii) maintain the preservation fluid in the blood treatment unit until a next blood treatment session is prepared, iv) dispatch the preservation fluid from the blood treatment unit in preparation of a next blood treatment session, and v) perform a next blood treatment session and thereby extend the use of the blood treatment unit. Blood treatment apparatus adapted to preserve parts thereof

A device removes first pulses in a pressure signal of a pressure sensor which is arranged in a fluid containing system to detect the first pulses, which originate from a first pulse generator, and second pulses, which originate from a second pulse generator. The first pulse generator operates in a sequence of pulse cycles, each pulse cycle resulting in at least one first pulse. The device repetitively obtains a current data sample, calculates a corresponding reference value and subtracts the reference value from the current data sample. The reference value is calculated as a function of other data sample(s) in the same pressure signal. The fluid containing system may include an extracorporeal blood flow circuit, e.g. as part of a dialysis machine, and a cardiovascular system of a human patient.

Filtering of a time-dependent pressure signal

A disposable for use in blood treatment including a blood treatment unit and two membrane pumps connected in parallel on one side of the blood treatment unit. The disposable is operable in a single-needle mode, in which the pumps generate a pulsatile flow of blood through the blood treatment unit, and in a double-needle mode, in which the pumps generate an essentially continuous flow of blood through the blood treatment unit. The pumps connect to a supply of treatment fluid such that alternating flows of treatment fluid causes the pumps to generate the desired flows of blood in the single-needle and double-needle modes. The treatment fluid may be used as motive fluid for displacing the blood in the membrane pumps and/or as control fluid for controlling opening and/or closing of upstream and downstream commutation valves in the membrane pumps.

Method to treat blood by controlling blood pumps with fluid pumps

A device monitors a blood path from a blood vessel access of a human subject through an extracorporeal blood processing apparatus and back to the blood vessel access. A pumping device in the blood path is operable to pump blood through the blood path from the blood withdrawal device to the blood return device. The monitoring device obtains pressure data from a pressure sensor arranged upstream of the pumping device in the blood path, and processes the pressure data for detection of a disruption of the blood path downstream of the pumping device, e.g. caused by VND (Venous Needle Dislodgement). The disruption is detected by evaluating presence/absence of cross-talk pulses at the pressure sensor, where the cross-talk pulses originate from one or more pulse generators in the extracorporeal blood processing apparatus and have propagated on a propagation path in a direction downstream of the pumping device through the blood return device, the blood vessel access and the blood withdrawal device to the pressure sensor.

Detecting blood path disruption in extracorpreal blood processing

A proposed blood treatment apparatus includes: a blood treatment unit, at least one fluid pump and at least one blood pump. The blood treatment unit is configured to receive untreated blood and fresh blood treatment fluid, and emit treated blood and used blood treatment fluid. The fluid pumps are configured to pass blood treatment fluid through the blood treatment unit. The blood pumps are configured to extract untreated blood from a blood source, pass extracted blood through the blood treatment unit and deliver treated blood to a target vessel. Additionally, at least one of the fluid pumps is configured to control the operation of at least one blood pump via the blood treatment fluid. Moreover, at least one of the blood pumps is integrated into a joint apparatus element, which includes the blood treatment unit. Thus, this blood pump and the unit may be mounted as well as be discarded jointly.
