There is a mobile terminal including an antenna, a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and at least two different applications. Each of the at least two different applications are executable on the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal is configured to wirelessly transmit information to and wirelessly receive information from a mobile communication network. The mobile terminal is further configured to use positioning data from a plurality of positioning methods including at least a GPS method and a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) positioning method. The mobile terminal also includes at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the mobile terminal to receive positioning data associated with at least two of the plurality of positioning methods. The mobile terminal centrally manages, processes a request for, combines and makes available positioning data.

Portable terminal and method for position determination

A method and device for position determination, in which one or more application requests a positioning method selection device for positioning data. The positioning method selection device provides an application with positioning data using one or more positioning method in accordance with settings defined by the application and/or the user. The positioning method selection device receives a positioning request from an application, forms a parameter or parameters indicating the quality of positioning requested by the application, compares the quality of positioning data provided by the positioning methods with the positioning quality required by the application, and sends the positioning data to the application in response to the positioning request.

Method and device for position determination

A device enabling a change of settings of applications is implemented in a mobile terminal. In order to facilitate a change of such settings, the device comprises a storage portion for storing a plurality of configurations. Each stored configuration is associated to at least one location and each stored configuration defines settings for applications implemented in the mobile terminal. The device further comprises a controlling portion for receiving information on a current position of the mobile terminal, for retrieving automatically a configuration associated to a location identified by the position information from the storage portion, and for changing settings of applications implemented in the mobile terminal according to the retrieved configuration. Changing settings of a mobile terminal

A method and device for position determination, in which one or more application () requests a positioning method selection device () for positioning data. The positioning method selection device provides an application with positioning data using one or more positioning method (to) in accordance with settings defined by the application and/or the user. The positioning method selection device () receives a positioning request from an application (), forms a parameter or parameters indicating the quality of positioning requested by the application, compares the quality of positioning data provided by the positioning methods with the positioning quality required by the application, and sends positioning data to the application () in response to the positioning request.

A method of arranging data protection in a telecommunication system including a first mobile communication network, a second mobile communication network, and a mobile station supporting both of the mobile communication networks is disclosed. The method includes ciphering traffic between the mobile station and the first mobile communication network using a first cipher key; calculating a second cipher key to be used for ciphering traffic between the mobile station and the second mobile communication network in the first mobile communication network when the mobile station operates in the first mobile communication network; transmitting information necessary for calculating the second cipher key from the first mobile communication network to the mobile station when the mobile station operates in the first mobile communication network; and calculating the second cipher key at the mobile station to be used for ciphering traffic between the mobile station and the second mobile communication network.

Arranging authentication and ciphering in mobile communication system

A smart card () for a mobile communications terminal () contains a plurality of application programs () providing various services. A number of different profiles are configured so that certain of the applications are accessible in certain of the profiles. The smart card is changed from one profile to another by changing application identification and selection data in a directory () of the applications.

The invention relates to a method for locating a mobile station (,) by means of the mobile station (,) and a location service center (LSC) (,) in the mobile network by dynamically distributing the computing between these two. Preferably the mobile station (,) measures impulse responses of received bursts to determine time differences, and preprocesses measurement results. The location service center (,) performs the final processing. According to the invention, dummy bursts are also used in the locating process. The method also includes an automatic locating procedure activated in conjunction with an emergency call.
