A method for providing system integration (SI) updates for a carrier aggregation system is described. The method includes, for each other component carrier (CC) of a configured set of CCs, determining a start time for the other CC when updated SI for the other CC becomes valid. A first time prior to each start time for the at least one other CC is determined. A message including the updated SI for the at least one other CC and an indication of the first time is sent on a first CC. A UE configured for a set of CCs receiving the message. For each CC of the configured set of CCs, a next time for the other CC which begins after the first time is determined and the user equipment (UE) is configured to use the updated SI for the other CC beginning at the next time. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

System information update for carrier aggregation

Systems and apparatus for managing signaling between a network and machine type communication (MTC) devices. An MTC device receives an indication such as a locally detached state indication and, during the validity of the indication, remains locally detached and does not attempt communication with the network except under specified conditions, such as a need by the MTC device to initiate data transfer, or triggering of the MTC device. The MTC device may also receive a local detachment timer and remain attached during the validity of the local detachment timer, with the MTC device becoming locally detached and the indication becoming valid upon expiration of the local detachment timer.

Methods and apparatus for managing network signaling

In an exemplary embodiment there is sent to a user equipment UE downlink control information DCI comprising an indication of an access codeword and an indication that at least one component carrier CC is activated for the UE, and there is received from the UE the access codeword which is an acknowledgement that the UE has activated the at least one CC. The access codeword is received on an uplink channel which a) lies in the at least one activated CC if there is an activated uplink channel in the activated CC, or b) is previously activated if there is no activated uplink channel in the activated CC. In another embodiment DCI comprising the above two indications is received from a network, the received indications are used to select and access the at least one CC; and activating the CC is acknowledged by sending the access codeword.

An apparatus may include processing circuitry configured at least to receive a broadcasted triggering message and to determine whether the triggering message identifies a machine-type communication (MTC) gateway or another device within a capillary network supported by the MTC gateway. The processing circuitry may cause at least a portion of the triggering message to be provided to a device within the capillary network in an instance in which the triggering message identifies the device within the capillary network. The processing circuitry may also be configured to determine an action requested by the triggering message in an instance in which the triggering message identifies the MTC gateway.

In one aspect, a wireless device sends a synchronization group identifier to a network control apparatus identifying a synchronization group of wireless devices. If the wireless device is notified that no other devices of the synchronization group are connected to the control apparatus, the wireless device transmits a timing reference to and agrees an extended discontinuous reception time period with the control apparatus. Otherwise, the wireless device receives a timing reference and an extended discontinuous reception time period from the control apparatus. The wireless device periodically enters an idle state and powers up for reception in accordance with at least the timing reference and the extended discontinuous reception time period. In another aspect, plural base stations each use a common timing reference and a common extended discontinuous reception time period in controlling the operation of extended discontinuous reception by a synchronization group of wireless devices.

Wireless device and base stations and methods of operating

The present invention relates to a method and network device for allocating a radio resource, e.g. a radio bearer, to a data connection. First, a radio resource is allocated-to the data connection and data transmitted via the data connection is compressed and transmitted using the allocated radio resource. During the transmission, a transmission parameter of the compressed data is monitored and the allocated radio resource is reconfigured based on the monitoring result. Thereby, the radio resource can be dynamically adapted to different data rates during the connection. Header compression benefits are available to all kinds of traffic without the disadvantage of having too low or too high data rates.
