Disclosed is a device for maintaining a configuration data structure expressing configuration of a device. The configuration is maintained by an operative process making desired changes to the configuration and adding, to the configuration data structure, change descriptors indicative of the changes. When the configuration data structure is updated, an auxiliary process is run in parallel with the operative process. The auxiliary process includes requesting functional entities of the device to report their configurations prevailing at an update time instant, and constructing an auxiliary configuration data structure on the basis of the reported information. The configuration data structure is updated by replacing a portion of the configuration data structure corresponding to the update time instant with the auxiliary configuration data structure. There is no need to freeze the configuration during the update because the auxiliary process is run in parallel with the operative process.

Method and an appliance for maintaining a configuration data structure

The invention relates to a method and arrangement for processing transactions in a flash type memory device, wherein the transaction is a data update and/or changing operation consisting of one or more suboperations, all of which must be successfully executed in order to regard the discussed transaction as having been successfully completed in its entirety. In the solution according to the invention, memory-block specific status information () of a memory block present in a flash type memory device is utilized not only for managing payload data () present in the memory block but also for the management of an entire transaction. Consequently, there is no need for a separate status bookkeeping of transactions, thus reducing the number of reading and writing operations required in transactions.

Method and arrangement for completion or recovery of data transactions in a flash type memory device using a commit process

Each received piece of configuration data is added at a next currently free location in a volatile buffer. The contents of the volatile buffer are compressed after adding each received piece of configuration data. The compression result is stored in a non-volatile flash memory. If the compression result was shorter than a limit, it is allowed to be overwritten in the flash memory by a next compression result. If the compression result was longer than the limit, it is stored in the flash memory and the next compression result is directed to a different location in the flash memory.
