Examples described herein provide a method that includes aligning, by a processing device, a measured point cloud for an object with reference data for the object. The method further includes comparing, by the processing device, the measurement point cloud to the reference data to determine a displacement value between each point in the measurement point cloud and a corresponding point in the reference data. The method further includes generating, by the processing device, a deviation histogram of the displacement values between each point in the measurement point cloud and the corresponding point in the reference data. The method further includes identifying, by the processing device, a region of interest of the deviation histogram. The method further includes determining, by the processing device, whether a deviation associated with the object exists based at least in part on the region of interest.

Cloud-to-cloud comparison using artificial intelligence-based analysis

A mobile three-dimensional (3D) measuring system includes a 3D measuring device, and a support apparatus. The 3D measuring device is coupled to the support apparatus. The support apparatus includes a pole mount that includes a gimbal at the top of the pole mount, wherein the 3D measuring device is attached to the gimbal. The support apparatus further includes a counterweight at the bottom of the pole mount, the counterweight matches a weight of the 3D measuring device.

Support system for mobile coordinate scanner

A system and method for scanning an environment and generating an annotated 2D map is provided. The method includes acquiring, via a 2D scanner, a plurality of 2D coordinates on object surfaces in the environment, the 2D scanner having a light source and an image sensor, the image sensor being arranged to receive light reflected from the object points. A first 360° image is acquired at a first position of the environment, via a 360° camera having a plurality of cameras and a controller, the controller being operable to merge the images acquired by the plurality of cameras to generate an image having a 360° view, the 360° camera being movable from the first to a second position. A 2D map is generated based at least in part on the plurality of two-dimensional coordinates of points. The first 360° image is integrated with the 2D map.

System and method of scanning an environment and generating two dimensional images of the environment

A system includes a first type of measurement device that captures first 2D images, a second type of measurement device that captures 3D scans. A 3D scan includes a point cloud and a second 2D image. The system also includes processors that register the first 2D images. The method includes accessing the 3D scan that records at least a portion of the surrounding environment that is also captured by a first 2D image. Further, 2D features in the second 2D image are detected, and 3D coordinates from the point cloud are associated to the 2D features. 2D features are also detected in the first 2D image, and matching 2D features from the first 2D image and the second 2D image are identified. A position and orientation of the first 2D image is calculated in a coordinate system of the 3D scan using the matching 2D features.

Markerless registration of image and laser scan data

A system includes a pose manipulation system operationally that sets a pose of a position measurement system with respect to an object that is to be measured. The system further includes a pose tracking system configured to record a relative pose between a coordinate system associated with the position measurement system and a coordinate system of the object. The pose tracking system records a path along which the position measurement system is enabled to measure 3D coordinates of a surface of a type of an object, wherein recording the path comprises moving the pose manipulation system sequentially through a plurality of poses and recording, at each pose, the relative pose to measure the 3D coordinates. The pose manipulation system follows the path again, and the position measurement system measures the 3D coordinates by applying one or more of the recorded poses.

A system and method for scanning an environment and generating an annotated 2D map is provided. The system includes a 2D scanner having a light source, an image sensor and a first controller. The first controller determines a distance value to at least one of the object points. The system further includes a 360° camera having a movable platform, and a second controller that merges the images acquired by the cameras to generate an image having a 360° view in a horizontal plane. The system also includes processors coupled to the 2D scanner and the 360° camera. The processors are responsive to generate a 2D map of the environment based at least in part on a signal from an operator and the distance value. The processors being further responsive for acquiring a 360° image and integrating it at a location on the 2D map.

An imaging device and method of imaging a region. The imaging device includes a first camera and a first light source set at a periphery of the first camera, a second camera separated from the first camera by a selected distance and a second light source set at a periphery of the second camera, and a processor configured to operate the first light source set and the second light source set independently of each other. The region is illuminated using the first light source and a first image is obtained. The region is illuminated using the second light source and a second image is obtained. At least one of the first image and the second image includes an illumination effect.

Stereo illumination

A dimensional measuring device includes an overview camera and a triangulation scanner. A six-DOF tracking device tracks the dimensional measuring device as the triangulation scanner measures three-dimensional (3D) coordinates on an exterior of the object. Cardinal points identified by the overview camera are used to register in a common frame of reference 3D coordinates measured by the triangulation scanner on the interior and exterior of the object.

A system includes a polarization target having two or more surfaces, a polarization camera that captures an image of the polarization target and records polarization of light that formed the image, and a processor that determines an orientation of the polarization target based at least in part on the captured image and the determined polarization.

Three-dimensional measuring system

A triangulation scanner system and method of operation is provided. The system includes a projector that alternately projects a pattern of light and no light during first and second time intervals. A camera includes a lens and a circuit with a photosensitive array. The camera captures an image of an object. The photosensitive array has a plurality of pixels including a first pixel. The first pixel including an optical detector and a first and second accumulator. The optical detector produces signals in response to a light levels reflected from a point on the object. The first accumulator sums the signals during the first time intervals to obtain a first summed signal. The second accumulator sums the signals during the second time intervals obtain a second summed signal. A processor determines 3D coordinates of the point based on the projected pattern of light and on the first and second summed signals.

Three-dimensional triangulational scanner with background light cancellation

A three-dimensional (3D) forensic evidence system is provided. The system includes a noncontact measurement device operable to measure a distance from the device to a surface. A first camera is operably coupled to the noncontact measurement device, the first camera having a field of view. A light source is operably coupled to the first camera and operable to emit light onto the surface within the field of view. A processor operably is coupled to the first camera, the processor operable to execute computer instructions when executed on the processor for determining 3D coordinates of at least one point in the field of view based at least in part on the distance, and assigning at least one color value to the at least one point in response to determining an interaction of a predefined wavelength of light with a substance in the field of view.

Forensic three-dimensional measurement device

A triangulation scanner system and method of operation is provided. The system includes a projector that projects a first pattern of light at a first light level during first time intervals and project the first pattern of light at a second light level during second time intervals, the second light level being different than the first light level. A first camera has a first photosensitive array, the first photosensitive array having a first pixel with an optical detector, a first memory, and a second memory. The first memory storing a first stored signal from the optical detector during the first time intervals, the second memory storing a second signal from the optical detector during the second time intervals. A processor determines three-dimensional coordinates of the first point based at least in part on the projected first pattern of light, the first stored signal, and the second stored signal.
