A self-piercing rivet with a head and a shank which has a shank diameter (Ds), wherein, at a foot end opposite the head, the shank has an axial recess which has an axial depth (LB), wherein the axial recess has a recess volume, wherein a ratio of recess volume to volume of the shank and the head is in the range of 0.06 to 0.08.

Self-piercing rivet

A self-piercing rivet for joining workpieces comprises: a head defining a head diameter, and a shank which defining a shank diameter. The shank on a foot end opposite to the head, partially defines an axial recess which has an axial depth. The shank further includes a flat surface portion or a circular cutter on the foot end. And an axial circular recess is partially defined in a transition portion between the head and the shank.

Self-piercing rivet and self-piercing riveted joint

A riveted joint comprising: an upper workpiece and a lower workpiece, and a self-piercing rivet. The rivet in an undeformed state, before the creation of the riveted joint, included: a head defining a head diameter (DH); a shank defining a shank diameter (DS); and a foot end opposite the head. Radially outward at the foot end is a flat surface facing away from the head; and an axial recess located radially inward of the flat surface, partly defined in the foot end, open axially away from the head, and frustoconical in longitudinal cross section. The axial recess defining an axial depth (LB). The ratio of recess axial depth (LB) to shank diameter (DS) is less than 0.3. And in a deformed state, after the creation of the riveted joint, the rivet extends through the first workpiece and penetrates the second workpiece; and the head bears against the upper surface.

A punch rivet for joining two workpieces, has a head and a shank. The shank is hollow with a shank internal diameter (D), a shank external diameter (D) and a shank end face. On the shank end face is a ring cutting edge with diameter (D) that is smaller than the external diameter (D) but greater than the internal diameter (D). The ring cutting edge is radially spaced both from the shank external diameter (D) and from the shank internal diameter (D) by at least 20% of the radial shank wall thickness (M). And the ratio D/Dof shank internal diameter Dto shank external diameter Dis smaller than 0.6. And the external diameter (D) merges into an external circumference of the head by a second profile, which defines an underhead radius (R), and the ratio of Rto D(R/D) is smaller than 0.13.

Punch rivet and method for producing a punch-riveted joint

A punch rivet for joining two workpieces, has a head and a shank. The shank is a hollow shank with a shank internal diameter (D), a shank external diameter (D) and a shank end face. On the shank end face is a ring cutting edge with the diameter (D) that is smaller than the shank external diameter (D) but greater than the shank internal diameter (D). The ring cutting edge is radially spaced both from the shank external diameter (D) and from the shank internal diameter (D) by at least 20% of the radial shank wall thickness (M). And the ratio D/Dof shank internal diameter Dto shank external diameter Dis smaller than 0.6.

A self-piercing rivet for connecting high-strength steels. The rivet having a head which has a head diameter (DH); a shank which has a shank diameter (DS); and, located at the foot end of the shank opposite the head, the shank has radially outward a flat surface section and radially inward an axial recess defining an axial depth (LB). The ratio of axial depth (LB) of the recess to the shank diameter (DS) is smaller than 0.3.
