The present disclosure relates to a method for producing polycrystalline silicon fragments. The process includes (a) providing a polycrystalline silicon rod, (b) working the surface of the silicon rod by means of a hammer or needle hammer to remove at least a portion of a layer of the surface of the polycrystalline silicon rod, and (c) reducing the silicon rod to fragments. Wherein an amount of impact energy expended by the hammer and/or needle hammer is from 1 J to 15 J.

Accurate and repeatable portioning of polycrystalline silicon chunks without excessive generation of fines is accomplished by separating silicon chunks into a multiplicity of weighed portions and combining at least four portions which together closely match a target weight into a plastic shipment bag which is then closed.

Polycrystalline silicon is produced by depositing polycrystalline silicon onto U-shaped slim rods, deinstalling at least one polycrystalline silicon rod pair from the reactor, removing graphite residues from the electrode-side ends of the polycrystalline silicon rods of the polycrystalline silicon rod pair, and comminuting the polycrystalline silicon rods into rod pieces or into chunks, wherein prior to deinstallation of the polycrystalline silicon rod pairs from the reactor, the polycrystalline silicon rod pairs are at least partially with a plastics material bag made of a plastics material film having a thickness of more than 150 &#x3bc;m, wherein the plastics material bag comprises weights at its opening. The invention further relates to a polycrystalline silicon rod pair which has a rod diameter of 190 mm or more and is covered by a plastics material bag made of a plastics material film having a thickness of more than 150 &#x3bc;m.

A method for packing polycrystalline silicon in the form of fragments or round rods, wherein at least one film in each case is inserted into a cuboidal cardboard box matched to the dimensions of the polycrystalline silicon to be packed, the polycrystalline silicon is introduced into the at least one film, the at least one film of thickness 10 to 1000 &#x3bc;m subsequently being welded and enclosing the polycrystalline silicon, and this at least one film being surrounded by a further film having a reinforcing structure or by a shaping element.

A method is disclosed for packaging polycrystalline silicon, in which a plastic bag is filled with polycrystalline silicon by means of a filling device, which has a freely suspended energy absorber consisting of a nonmetallic low-contamination material, wherein the plastic bag is pulled over the energy absorber and filled with polycrystalline silicon, and the plastic bag is lowered downward during the filling, so that the silicon slides into the plastic bag. Also disclosed is a method for packaging polycrystalline silicon, in which a plastic bag is filled with polycrystalline silicon by means of a filling device, wherein a storage container has an opening through which it is filled with silicon, the plastic bag being pulled over the storage container after filling the storage container with silicon and the storage container subsequently being rotated so that the silicon slides out of the storage container into the plastic bag.

Method for packaging polycrystalline silicon

Polycrystalline silicon in the form of chunks packed in plastic bags containing a mass of at least 5 kg, including chunks of size from 20 to 200 mm, wherein any fines fraction in the plastic bag is less than 900 ppmw, preferably less than 300 ppmw, more preferably less than 10 ppmw. The polycrystalline silicon, after comminution of a silicon rod obtained by CVD (Siemens process), is sorted and classified, optionally dedusted and then metered and packed. Metering and packing units include elements for removing fines or small particles during metering and during packing. The packing unit includes an energy absorber or a reservoir vessel which enables sliding or slipping of the silicon chunks into the plastic bag. Gas flow generated within the plastic bag after the bag has been filled transports the dust or small particles out of the bag, and these are sucked out with a suction device.

Disclosed is a method for dosing and packaging polysilicon chunks, wherein a product flow of polysilicon chunks is transported via a feed channel, separated by at least one screen into coarse and fine chunks, weighed and dosed to a target weight by a dosing balance, discharged via a discharge channel and transported to a packaging unit where a first plastic bag is filled with the polysilicon chunks and sealed, the plastic bag containing polysilicon chunks being packaged with a further plastic bag which is formed by a shaper and subsequently welded, wherein the at least one screen and the dosing balance at least partially include a hard metal on their surfaces and the shaper for forming the plastic bag includes a wear-resistant coating. Also disclosed are a dosing unit, a packaging unit and a device for dosing and packaging polysilicon chunks, which contains a dosing unit and a packaging unit.
