To carry out inter-RAT handover to the strongest neighbor cell, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus determines a measurement configuration relating to handover from a cell of a source RAT to a cell of one or more target RATs. The apparatus detects trigger events associated with a first cell and a second cell of the one or more target RATs and a serving cell of the source RAT based on the measurement configuration. The apparatus may prioritize the second cell over the first cell in response to the detected trigger events, e.g., based on the received signal strength of the cells. The apparatus may generate a MRM for each of the first cell and the second cell. The MRM for the second cell may be sent to the serving cell before the MRM for the first cell is sent to the serving cell.

Optimized measurement report order for inter-RAT handover

Methods, systems, and devices are described for transitioning between different radio access technologies (RATs) utilizing system information messages to trigger the transition. Some embodiments may involve utilizing a system information message (e.g., SIB19, SI2quater) that may be received from a serving cell over a first radio RAT (e.g., 2G, 3G, 4G) while in a connected mode with the serving cell. A transition may be initiated from the connected mode with the serving cell to an idle mode with the serving cell in response to the received system information message. A reselection may be performed from the idle mode with the serving cell to a target cell utilizing a second RAT (e.g., 3G, 4G, or 5G) in response to the received system information message.

An apparatus and method for enabling an automotive module indicator in a wireless communication system comprising receiving a capability inquiry message from a wireless network; determining an information content for a capability message in response to the capability inquiry message; and transmitting the capability message to the wireless network. In one aspect, the apparatus and method comprising transmitting a capability inquiry message to a mobile device; and receiving a capability message from the mobile device in reply to the capability inquiry message, wherein the capability message includes an automotive indicator field to indicate presence or absence of an automotive module.

Apparatus and method for enabling an automotive module device indicator in a wireless communication system

Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products are described for adaptive clustering. Serving cells may receive measurement information from mobile devices, and may each form reporting sets including measurement information for various cells. A CoMP (coordinated multi-point) control unit may receive the measurement information from each of a number of serving cells. The received measurement information may be aggregated for a population of the mobile devices. Based on the aggregated measurement information, cell clusters may be formed to perform coordinated transmissions, each including a different subset of the cells. An indication of the determined cell clusters may be transmitted to respective cells.

Adaptive cell clustering in a multi-cluster environment

A method, a computer program product and a device for requesting access to a node (BS) of a wireless communications network () are described. In the network () identification codes are used to differentiate access requests of different network components (UE). The method comprises the step of determining information about a transmission path () to e.g. the network node (BS), the step of determining an identification code in dependence on the determined transmission path information, wherein previously an association between identification codes and transmission path information has been established, and the step of modulating the selected identification code onto a signal to generate an access request signal carrying transmission path information.

Requesting and controlling access in a wireless communications network

The invention relates to a method, a computer program product and a device for evaluating a code which is orthogonal to one or more further codes. The method comprises the steps of receiving a signal which carries a code containing a sequence of code symbols, determining for a particular symbol instant at least one channel estimate, determining for the particular symbol instant a compensation value taking into account the at least one channel estimate, compensating each code symbol using the compensation value determined for the corresponding symbol instant, wherein the compensation is performed such that an original power relationship among the individual code symbols contained in the code is restored, and evaluating the code on the basis of the sequence of compensated code symbols exploiting the orthogonality to further codes.

Evaluating orthogonal codes transmitted in a wireless communications network

A communications link is adapted based on a quality estimate for a signal transmitted via the communications link. The method comprises receiving and demodulating the transmitted signal, assessing the demodulated signal to derive a first estimate for the signal quality that is to be used in a link adaptation scheme, and further processing and decoding the demodulated signal. Based on at least one of the further processed, non-decoded signal and information obtained prior to conclusion of decoding, a first control signal indicative of the signal quality is generated and utilized to control the link adaptation scheme.

Dual loop signal quality based link adaptation

Use of a more accurate, constant or quasi-constant reference signal-to-noise ratio value to support the process of decoding information sequences that have been encoded using turbo coding techniques, particularly in UMTS WCDMA receivers, enhances the accuracy of the decoding process and, in turn, link quality and overall system performance. This may be accomplished by exploiting the reference SNR, which is generated, for example, by the power control loop in the receiver. More specifically, the present invention modifies this reference SNR value based on various factors including, but not limited to, the scaling factor that is applied to the decoder input metrics, power settings, processing gains, coding rates and/or the modulation scheme.

Optimum turbo decoding architecture and method using a constant or quasi-constant signal-to-noise ratio

The present application relates to a device and method for processing a digital value to thereby determine an estimate of the square of said digital value. This is done by linearly approximating the square function with the help of anchor points that are powers of 2, such that the estimate of the square of a digital value x is determined on the basis of a first processing value 2 , where 2 &lE;x <2 , and a second processing value (3x &minus;2 ). The present invention is advantageous in that it allows simple processing steps and a simple processing hardware. It is preferably applied to the mean signal power estimation of a digital signal being sent to a transmitter.

A system and method for detecting and selecting peaks in a delay power profile (DPP) signal. An adaptive threshold is used to determine valid paths in the DPP signal. The adaptive threshold is determined by measuring the signal-to-noise ratio of the DPP signal, and setting the threshold to minimize non-detections and false alarms in path estimation. To determine the signal-to-noise ratio, the system uses an iterative process wherein a raw estimate and an improved estimate are made of the noise.
