A vehicle includes a roof having a roof opening between respective sides of the vehicle body, and guide rails attached to respective sides of the vehicle body. A cover having guide elements is slidably engaged to respective ones of the rails to slide the cover between a closed position in which the cover covers the opening and an opened position in which the cover exposes the opening. A first sealing section is connected to one of the respective vehicle body sides. A second sealing section is connected to the cover on the respective body side. The sealing sections enclose a wedge line. A seal is between the sealing sections. The seal is compressed when the cover is in the closed position and is relaxed when the cover is in the opened position in response to a wedge effect generated by the wedge line as the cover slides along the rails.

Roof for a motor vehicle

A passenger car having a roof opening and a rear opening that are selectively covered by a segmented dimensionally stable roof and a rear lid, respectively. A linkage and actuator drive are common to the roof and rear lid. A supporting structure of the rear lid is connected to a rear roof section. The roof sections are connected by four bar linkages to adjacent sections. The angular position of a supporting link relative to the vehicle body is changed by the actuator drive.

In a folding vehicle roof, particularly for passenger cars, comprising roof parts of which one forms a support for an adjacent follower roof part, the support roof part is supported on the vehicle body, and the follower roof part is supported on the support roof part each by a four-link operating mechanism forming, with the support roof part, a connecting linkage in the form of a parallelogram having connecting points to four link operating mechanisms defined by corner points of congruent essentially rectangular connecting triangles.
