An approach to control or monitoring of battery operation makes use of a recurrent neural network (RNN), which receives one or more battery attributes for a Lithium ion (Li-ion) battery, and determines, based on the received one or more battery attributes, a state-of-charge (SOC) estimate for the Li-ion battery.

Neural network State-of-Charge estimation

An approach to control or monitoring of battery operation makes use of an artificial neural network (ANN), which receives one or more battery attributes for a Lithium ion (Li-ion) battery, and determines, based on the received one or more battery attributes, a state-of-charge (SOC) and/or a state-of-health (SOH) estimate for the Li-ion battery. The ANN includes at least one of a recurrent neural network (RNN) and a convolutional neural network (CNN), and the series of values of the battery attributes includes at one of battery voltage values, battery current values, and battery temperature values.

Disclosed are systems and methods for motor control using piecewise affine modelling. An electronic controller may determine current values for a motor in a rotational reference frame. Each current value may be associated with a dimension of a set of dimensions of the rotational reference frame. The electronic controller may further determine, based on the current values, a flux linkage value for each of the set of dimensions of the rotational reference frame using a piecewise affine map. The electronic controller may further determine a target flux linkage value for each of the set of dimensions of the rotational reference frame. The electronic controller may then control a power switching network coupled between a power supply and the motor based on the flux linkage values and the target flux linkage values.

Disclosed are implementations, including a method that includes obtaining measurement samples relating to electrical operation of an electric motor drive providing power to an electric motor, deriving, based on the samples, instantaneous estimates for parameters characterizing speed and/or position of the motor according to an optimization process based on a cost function defined for the samples, and applying a filtering operation to the instantaneous estimates to generate filtered values of the motor's speed and/or position. The filtering operation includes computing the filtered values using the derived instantaneous estimates in response to a determination that a computed convexity of the cost function is greater than or equal to a convexity threshold value, and/or applying a least-squares filtering operation to the derived instantaneous estimates and using at least one set of previous estimates derived according to the optimization process applied to previous measurement samples.

System and methods for high performance filtering techniques for sensorless direct position and speed estimation

A system may mitigate leakage currents in charging stations for electric vehicles. The system may include a bank of one or more parallel capacitors per phase electrically coupled to an AC voltage source, wherein a neutral point of the one or more parallel capacitors is electrically coupled to a DC ground; a bank of one or more inductors per phase electrically coupled to the one or more parallel capacitors, wherein each inductor is in series with and downstream from one capacitor; a rectifier electrically coupled to and downstream from the one or more parallel inductors, wherein the rectifier converts the AC voltage source to a DC voltage for supply to a battery; a DC bus electrically coupled to the rectifier; and a controller, wherein the controller is configured to mitigate leakage currents by controlling a voltage of at least one of the bank of one or more parallel capacitors.

Non-isolated DC fast charger for electrified vehicles

An electric machine includes a stator and a rotor energizable by magnetic fields produced by the stator when receiving a stator current to produce relative motion between the rotor and the stator. A controller is configured to send the stator current through the stator at a current angle measured from the closest one of a pole of the rotor, determine a desired operational output of the electric machine, and determine a desired rotor motion corresponding to the desired operational output of the electric machine. The controller is further configured to calculate a vector control modulation applied to the stator that elicits the desired rotor motion, and adjust the current angle of the stator current based on the vector control modulation to cause the rotor to perform the desired rotor motion and achieve the desired operational output of the electric machine.

Power distribution within an electric machine

A reconfigurable electric motor (or machine) that may be reconfigured to improve performance given particular motor conditions. The motor is part of a motor system including a stator, a rotor, a microinverter network including a plurality of microinverters, and a motor controller including processing circuitry. The motor controller controls the plurality of microinverters to drive the motor in accordance with a first configuration of a plurality of motor configurations. The motor controller determines, based on determined motor conditions, to reconfigure the motor from the first configuration to a second configuration, where the first configuration has a first pole count that is different than a second pole count of the second configuration. The motor controller further controls the plurality of microinverters to drive the motor in accordance with the second configuration.

Dynamically configurable hardware system for motor system and method for operating same

An electric machine includes a stator defining multiple stator poles with associated stator windings configured to receive a stator current. The electric machine also includes a rotor defining multiple fixed rotor poles with associated rotor windings, wherein the rotor defines a field energizable by magnetic fields produced by the stator windings when receiving the stator current to produce relative motion between the rotor and the stator and wherein the rotor is maintained in synchronicity with the magnetic fields produced by the stator during operation of the electric machine. The electric machine also includes a rectification system configured control against an alternating current being induced in the rotor poles as the field is energized by magnetic fields produced by the stator windings when receiving the stator current.

A system may mitigate leakage currents in non-isolated charging stations for electric vehicles. The system may include a bank of one or more parallel capacitors per phase electrically coupled to an AC voltage source, wherein a neutral point of the one or more parallel capacitors is electrically coupled to a DC ground; a bank of one or more inductors per phase electrically coupled to the one or more parallel capacitors, wherein each inductor is in series with and downstream from one capacitor; a rectifier electrically coupled to and downstream from the one or more parallel inductors, wherein the rectifier converts the AC voltage source to a DC voltage for supply to a battery; a DC bus electrically coupled to the rectifier; and a controller, wherein the controller is configured to mitigate leakage currents by controlling a voltage of at least one of the bank of one or more parallel capacitors.

Disclosed are methods, systems, devices, and other implementations, including a voltage converter device that includes one or more inductive elements to deliver inductor current to an output section of the voltage converter device, at least one switching device to control current flow at the output section of the voltage converter device, and a controller to controllably vary, according to a predictive model, a subsequently applied switching frequency to the at least one switching device to maintain zero-voltage switching based, at least in part, on the inductor current of the one or more inductive elements.
