A system for treating tissue of a patient's anatomy at a target site. A localizer generates location data associated with the anatomy. A display unit overlays visual content on the anatomy within a field of view observable by a user. A visualization program on a computing device generates a virtual reference frame, identifies viable and non-viable approaches for fixation elements to engage tissue and secure a stabilizer relative to the target site based on patient-specific imaging data, arranges a virtual viability model within the virtual reference frame based on the location data and comprising viable portions associated with viable approaches and non-viable portions associated with non-viable approaches, and renders the virtual viability model in the visual content displayed by the display unit overlaid onto the anatomy within the field of view to assist the user in visualizing at least one of viable approaches and non-viable approaches.

Surgical systems and methods for facilitating tissue treatment

A targeting system for use with a bone plate includes a body having an upper side and an opposite lower side, a first lateral side and a second opposite lateral side, a first plurality of holes extending through the upper and lower sides and arranged in a first pattern, a second plurality of holes extending through the first and second lateral sides and arranged in a different second pattern.

Minimally invasive surgery targeting guides and methods of use

A technique of providing user guidance for surgical navigation is provided. A method implementation of the technique includes obtaining a predetermined spatial relationship between an optical tracking pattern and a through-hole extending through an implant, obtaining image data of the optical tracking pattern acquired by an imaging unit attached to a surgical instrument, obtaining a spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the imaging unit at a point in time when the image data have been acquired, determining a spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the through-hole, obtaining a plurality of predefined spatial relationships between the surgical instrument and the through-hole, and triggering simultaneous display of an indication of the plurality of predefined spatial relationships and an indication of the spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the through-hole.

Technique for providing user guidance in surgical navigation

A device for positioning a bone plate includes a body having a first end having a first curved portion and a second end having a second curved portion. Each curved portion terminates at an abutment. Each abutment has a first diameter and the curved portions have a second diameter less than the first diameter. The first end secures the positioning device to a bone plate and the second end secures the positioning device to a soft tissue elevator.

Devices and methods for positioning of an implant

A bone plate for implanting in a femur bone having a prosthesis implanted therein includes a shaft portion defining a plurality of holes and a trochanteric portion proximal to the shaft portion having two arms forming a concave shape and defining a plurality of first holes for receiving screws such that when implanted, the two arms at least partially wrap around and attach to the femur bone. The bone plate may include at least one bendable extension positioned between both of the arms. Each of the extensions may define at least one second hole.

Trochanter plates

Surgical tools and methods of their use are provided. A surgical tool includes first and second working members, first and second handle arms, a handle post having first and second ends, the second end confronting the second handle arm, and a ratchet coupled to one of the first and second handle arms and engageable with the other of the first and second handle arms. Movement of the first handle arm with respect to the second handle arm causes movement of the first working member with respect to the second working member. A force applied to the handle post causes the first working member to move in a first direction with respect to the second working member. The ratchet is configured to temporarily prevent the first and second working members from moving with respect to one another.

A bone plate has a first frame portion with a plurality of apertures. The apertures may have central axes angled with respect to a bone contacting surface adjacent thereto at an angle of other than 90&#xb0;. The plate has a second plate portion comprising a plurality of apertures therethrough and has a first end connected to the first plate portion. The first, second and third plate portions having an arcuate shape capable of conforming to an arcuate bone surface, the bone contacting surface forming a concave portion of the arcuate shape.

The first, second and third plate portions having an arcuate shape capable of conforming to an arcuate bone surface, the bone contacting surface forming a concave portion of the arcuate shape.
