A control device () for a roll stand (). During rolling of a metal strip () in the roll stand (), the device receives measurement data (M) for a lateral position (y) of the metal strip () on the inlet side and/or outlet side of the roll stand (). Taking into account parameters (P) of the stand regulator () on the basis of the deviation in the lateral position (y) from a target position (y*), a stand regulator () of the control device () determines a tilt value (δs) for the roll stand () and controls the roll stand () accordingly. The control device () determines at least one variable (V, V, Q, Q) from which it is derived, for both strip edges () of the metal strip (), whether the metal strip () forms an undulation () in the region of the particular strip edge (). As soon as the metal strip () forms an undulation () in the region of one of the strip edges (), the control device () varies at least one of the parameters (P) of the stand regulator (), such that the stand regulator () determines the tilt value (δs), starting from the variation in the at least one parameter (P), and taking into account the changed parameter (P).

Preventing undulations when rolling metal strips

Slabs pass through a furnace in a conveying direction, are heated to rolling temperature, and are rolled in at least one roller stand. Determining device receives information showing the regions occupied by the slabs relative to one another when passing through the furnace in at least one direction orthogonal to the conveying direction, and determines, for at least one rolling pass of the respective slab, an adjustment of the roller stand performing this rolling pass without prior determination of a respective temperature distribution of a respective slab or without utilization of a determined temperature of a respective slab. The determining device takes into account the region occupied by the respective preceding and/or following slab, seen in the conveying direction, relative to the respective slab, and supplies the respective determined adjustment of the roller stand to a control device, which controls the roller stand when the respective slab is being rolled.

Determination of an adjustment of a roll stand

Prior to the rolling of a flat rolling material () on a rolling line that includes a number of roll stands (), a control system () receives actual variables (I) and target variables (Z) of the material (). The control system () determines desired values (S*) for the roll stands (), based on the actual (I) and target variables (Z) in combination with a model () of the rolling line, such that expected variables (E) of the material () after its rolling are aligned as far as possible with the target variables (Z) and transfers the desired values (S*) to the roll stands () such that the material () is rolled according to the desired values (S*). The target variables (Z) comprise at least one freely selectable, discrete characteristic variable (Kto K, K' to K&#x2032;, K&#x2033; to K&#x2033;) defining the contour (K) of the flat rolling material ().

Targeted adjusting of the contour using corresponding specifications

A model () is based on mathematical-physical equations. The model models the production of a particular output product () from at least one input product () supplied in each case to an installation in the raw materials industry on the basis of operation (B) of the installation. During production of the output products (), the installation is controlled by a control device () in such a manner that particular actual operation (B) of the installation corresponds as far as possible to particular desired operation (B*) of the installation. The desired operation (B*) is determined by the control device () using the model () of the installation. The model () is parameterized according to a number of first model parameters (P) for the purpose of modelling the installation. After a multiplicity of output products () have been produced in each case, actual sizes (A) of the output products () in the particular multiplicity are compared with expected sizes (A') of the output products () in the particular multiplicity. On the basis of the comparison, the first model parameters (P) are newly determined and the model () in the control device () is newly parameterized according to the new values of the first model parameters (P). After this time, the desired operation (B*) is determined by the control device () using the newly parameterized model () of the installation in the raw materials industry. The expected sizes (A&#x2032;) are determined by means of the model (), wherein the determination of the expected sizes (A&#x2032;) is based on the actual operation (B) of the installation.

Optimization of the modeling of process models

An automation system () determines control data (S'), outputs same to controlled elements () of the facility (ANL) and thereby controls the facility (ANL). Sensor devices () acquire measurement data (M) of the facility (ANL) and at least partly feed same to the automation system () and a man-machine interface (). Said man-machine interface () receives planning data (P) from a production planning system () and/or control data (S&#x2032;) and/or internal data (I) from the automation system (). The interface outputs the data (M, S&#x2032;, I) to a person (). It furthermore receives control commands (S) from the person () and forwards them to the automation system (). The automation system () processes the measurement data (M) and the control commands (S) when determining the control data (S&#x2032;). An artificial intelligence unit () receives at least part of the measurement data (M), control data (S&#x2032;) and/or internal data (I) and the data output to the person (). It also receives the control commands (S). The artificial intelligence unit () processes the data (M, S&#x2032;, I) and control demands (S) received and determines evaluation results (A) therefrom and makes the latter available to the person () and/or to the production planning system () and/or sets them for the automation system () in the form of control commands (&#x2033;) directly or via the man-machine interface (). The data (M, S&#x2032;, I) received by the artificial intelligence unit () are at least to some extent dimensional data. Said dimensional data (M, S&#x2032;, I) comprise at least one image captured by a sensor device () or an image output via the man-machine interface (), part of such an image, a time sequence of such images or a time sequence of a part of such images or an acoustic oscillation or an acoustic oscillation spectrum.

Use of comprehensive artificial intelligence in primary industry plants

A plurality of flat metal items to be rolled () are fed to a plurality of rolling stands () of a rolling installation, one after the other over a feed path (). The items () are rolled by the rolling stands () past which they are fed. In the rolling stands (), the flat item to be rolled () is first rough-rolled in at least one roughing pass with a wedge-type roll gap adjustment (ds) and then finish-rolled in finishing passes. After the finish-rolling of the flat item, a thickness taper (dd) that is present in the respective finish-rolled flat item is recorded by measuring instruments. The thickness taper (dd) is compared with a target taper (dZ). On the basis of a deviation of the thickness taper (dd) from the target taper (dZ) and the wedge-type roll gap adjustment (ds), a new wedge-type roll gap adjustment (ds) is determined for the at least one roughing pass. The wedge-type roll gap adjustment (ds) for the at least one roughing pass for the next flat item to be rolled () is set to correspond to the newly determined value of the wedge-type roll gap adjustment (ds), so that the next flat item to be rolled () is rough-rolled in the at least one roughing pass with the newly determined value of the wedge-type roll gap adjustment (ds).

Simple pre-control of a wedge-type roll-gap adjustment of a roughing stand

A compressed air system contains a compressed air reservoir, a compressed air line system and a drive system connected on an inlet side to the compressed air reservoir by way of the compressed air line system. The drive system has a drive and a drive controller, the drive system has a valve provided so as to pneumatically separate the drive controller from the drive.

In a rolling process for reverse thermomechanically rolling an aluminum plate involving a plurality of rolling passes, identifying data are determined for thermally guiding the rolling process. Then a value of a state variable, from which a temperature of the aluminum plate can be deduced, is continuously measured and a pass schedule is determined for the rolling process on the basis of the value of the measured state variable and of the identifying data. The pass schedule provides for a rolling pause between at least two successive rolling passes, during which rolling of the aluminum plate is interrupted for cooling purposes.

Thermomechanical rolling of an aluminum plate

A Steckel mill has a reversing unit for rolling a rolled product and winding furnaces arranged on the entrance side and exit side of the reversing unit. When rolling the rolled product in a region of a head of the rolled product, a target thickness of the rolled product is ignored, while measuring a current thickness and/or a hardness of the rolled product and comparing this with a setpoint value. One the measured variable reaches or is below the setpoint value, the reversing unit is operated with a view to achieving the target thickness of the rolled product. The Steckel mill is operated to allow for rolling of a cold, non-rollable piece of the rolled product, so that malfunctions are avoided and the usable part of the rolled product is as large as possible.

Method for operating a steckel mill

A method influences the geometry of a rolled item in a controlled manner. In the method, the rolled item is transformed from an initial condition into an intermediate or final condition by rolling with the aid of a rolling stand having at least one processing assembly. An improvement in the geometry of the rolled item, particularly during processing of asymmetric rolled items, is achieved in that the at least one processing assembly is operated in a force-controlled manner on the basis of a desired force.

Method for influencing the geometry of a rolled item in a controlled manner

A control computer for a rolling train is supplied with prescribed stand parameters of a rolling stand of the rolling train. The control computer sets variables describing a rolling pass of the rolling stand that together with initial data of a flat piece to be rolled and the stand data describe the resultant roll nip and the asymmetry thereof. The initial data may be width, average thickness and average strength of the workpiece to be rolled. Based on the initial data, the stand data and the set variables an expected delivery taper and/or an expected strip sabre for the workpiece is determined. At least one of the set variables is manipulated to bring the determined delivery taper close to a desired delivery taper and/or the strip sabre close to a desired strip sabre. The manipulated variables are used to control rolling the workpiece piece.

Operating method for a rolling train

In a method for establishing a machine code which can be immediately executed by a computer, the execution of which causes the computer to implement a rolling model and to determine an output variable that quantitatively describes at least one material flow occurring in the rolling stock during a rolling process defined by the condition of the rolling stock and the roll stand setting. The output variable is determined on the basis of the rolling model, a rolling stock condition lying within a predetermined range of conditions, and a roll stand setting lying within a predetermined range of settings. Furthermore, a computer program, a data carrier, a computer, and a rolling train with at least one roll stand are disclosed.

Method for establishing machine code, the execution of which generates an optimized rolling model

In a method and a control device for adjusting a state of a rolling stock, particularly a near-net strip, defined at least by an out-of-parallel condition and/or a curvature of the rolling stock, the rolling stock is transitioned from an initial into an intermediate state by a roll stand and by impressing a stress onto the rolling stock by an additional processing device, and the rolling stock is transitioned from the intermediate into a final state by at least one processing aggregate. By determining whether rolling stock should be fed into the at least one processing aggregate, the intermediate state requiring a non-zero out-of-parallel condition and/or curvature in order to achieve a predetermined final state, and the roll stand and/or the processing device are controlled and/or regulated as a function thereof to adjust the required intermediate state, the shape reliability of an ultimately parallel, non-curved rolling stock can be increased.

Method for adjusting a state of a rolling stock, particularly a near-net strip

A rolling mill for producing rolled rolling stock is operated in a continuous manner by integrally forming the rolling stock during scheduled operation from a supply device which supplies the stock to the rolling mill to one finishing rolling train arranged downstream of the rolling stock supply device by guiding the stock into the finishing rolling train continuously and rolling it to form a first outflow product. The operation is monitored for a deviation from the scheduled operation that influences the rolling process, wherein in case of a deviation measures are taken to examine whether a second outflow product, which is different from the first outflow product, can still be produced. If the second outflow product cannot be produced, the operation of the rolling mill is altered from a continuous operation to a discontinuous operation, whereby production failures caused by undesired process deviations in a rolling mill can be reduced.

A steel volume is modeled in a computer by means of a plurality of volume elements. The state of the steel volume at a given time comprises, for each volume element, characteristic quantities of an enthalpy existing at said time in the respective volume element and percentages, in which the steel is available in the respective volume element at the time in austenite, ferrite and cementite phases. For at least one volume element, the computer determines the time gradient of the characteristic quantities by resolving thermal conductivity and phase transition equations. One of the characteristic quantities is a locally invariable mean interstitial element concentration within the volume element in the austenite phase thereof.
