A method includes: providing a plate-like glass element having side faces and an ultrashort pulse laser having a laser beam; directing the laser beam onto one of the side faces; concentrating the laser beam by focusing optics to form an elongated focus in the glass element; producing a filament-shaped flaw in a volume of the glass element by a radiated-in energy of the laser beam, a longitudinal direction of which runs transverse to one of the side faces, and the ultrashort pulse laser radiates in a pulse or a pulse packet having at least two successive laser pulses to produce the filament-shaped flaw; widening the filament-shaped flaw to form a channel by exposing the glass element to an etching including an etching medium which removes glass at a rate of less than 8 μm per hour; and introducing rounded, hemispherical depressions in a wall of the channel by the etching.

Structured plate-like glass element and process for the production thereof

A plate-like glass element includes a pair of opposite side faces and an opening having a transverse dimension of at least 200 μm. The opening is delimited by an edge. The edge has a plurality of rounded, substantially hemispherical depressions that adjoin one another. The plurality of rounded, substantially hemispherical depressions having abutting concave roundings which form ridges.

Thin glass elements with improved edge strength are provided—from a sheet glass element that has two opposite parallel faces and an edge connecting the faces. The sheet glass element has a thickness of at most 700 μm. At least a portion of the edge is defined by an edge surface portion that is convexly curved, so that at least one of the faces merges into the edge surface portion, wherein a curved arc of the edge surface portion has a length that is at least 1/30 of the thickness of the sheet glass element. In the region of the convex curvature, the edge surface portion has indentations in the form of furrows.

Sheet glass product with increased edge strength and method for producing same

A method is provided for scoring glasses. The method includes the steps of generating a deep crack in the glass along an intended separation line by exerting pressure onto the glass surface using a rigid scoring tool, wherein the scoring tool, by being pressed against the glass surface and due to the advancement force while introducing the deep crack generates a zone of elastic strain in the glass in a direction along the glass surface and perpendicular to the separation line, which extends in an arc in the plane defined by the separation line perpendicular to the glass surface such that one leg of the arc is located close to the contact point of the scoring tool on the glass surface and another leg is located inside the glass. The arc being open towards the advancement/advancement direction of the scoring tool.

Glass element with cut edge and method of producing same

The present disclosure relates to glass articles, a method of making the glass articles, and uses of the glass articles. The glass article has a UV-transmittance of more than 90% at 350 nm and at 500 nm and a total amount of Si, BOand AlOof at least 75 mol %. The article is preferably used in the fields of biotechnology, MEMS, CIS, MEMS-like pressure sensor, display, micro array, electronic devices, microfluidics, semiconductor, high precision equipment, camera imaging, display technologies, sensor/semicon, electronic devices, home appliance, diagnostic product, and/or medical device.

Bondable glass and low auto-fluorescence article and method of making it

A plate-like glass element including a pair of opposite side faces and at least one channel introduced into the glass of the glass element. The at least one channel joins the side faces and opens into the side faces. The at least one channel has a rounded wall and a transverse dimension of less than 100 &#x3bc;m. The at least one channel extends in a longitudinal direction that runs transverse to the side faces. The rounded wall of the at least one channel has a plurality of rounded, substantially hemispherical depressions.

A composite includes a component and a glass or glass ceramic material. The component has a first coefficient of expansion &#x3b1;and the glass or the glass ceramic material has a second coefficient of expansion &#x3b1;. The glass or the glass ceramic material has a surface with a thickness and thickness differences (TTV) within the surface, and thickness fluctuations (LTV). The composite has a residual stress in the glass or the glass ceramic material (WARP), and a geometric and material-physical degree of compatibility KG&#x2265;4.

Composite including a component and a glass material

The present disclosure relates to bendable and/or foldable articles and uses thereof and to a method of providing bendable and/or foldable articles. The articles are of translucent and brittle material, such as glass, glass ceramic, ceramic or crystals. A method and apparatus for scoring thin glass for the purpose of score and break separation as well as an accordingly prepared scored thin glass are provided. The scoring tool is pressed onto the thin glass and drawn along the scoring line with an adjusted scoring contact pressure force as a vertical scoring force component. This permits to production of prescored ultrathin glass of Knoop hardness from 350 to 650 with a score depth from 1/20 to &#x2158; of the material thickness.

A packaging unit for a glass wound on a winding shaft includes a transport unit with a mounting support for the winding core which has a transport unit interior part and a transport unit exterior part. The transport unit interior part includes a floor element and side elements. The transport unit exterior part includes a floor element, side elements and a cover element. The mounting support for the winding core is always connected with or formed by two side elements of the transport unit interior part which are located opposite each other. The transport unit interior part is spaced apart from the transport unit exterior part in a floor region by spring elements, so that the transport unit interior part is arranged vibration-decoupled from the transport unit exterior part. A method of utilizing a transport unit for packaging a glass that is wound on a winding core is also disclosed.
