The application is structured as multiple process components interacting with each other through service interfaces, and multiple service operations, each being implemented for a respective process component. The process components include an Accounting process component that records the relevant business transactions for valuation and profitability analysis; an Inventory Processing process component that handles the management of inventory and the recording of inventory changes and may provide services to maintain current stock, handling unit content, logistics operating unit content, and allocation content; a Site Logistics Processing process component that handles the preparation, physical execution, and confirmation of logistics processes within a site; and a Supply and Demand Matching process component that combines the tasks necessary to ensure that sufficient material receipt elements exist to cover material demand while taking available capacity into account.

Architectural design for ad-hoc goods movement software

A multiple transaction quantity inventory management system including an inventory management component to store and manage inventory information using a base unit of measure ('UOM') and in a valuation UOM related by at least one conversion factor for each of a plurality of goods; a material management component connected to the inventory management component, the material management component to monitor and maintain information on the plurality of goods in the base UOM and in the valuation UOM for each of the plurality of goods; a sales delivery component connected to the inventory management component, the sales delivery component to receive and process sales orders in the base UOM; a warehouse management component connected to the inventory management component, the warehouse management component to control stock information for the plurality of goods in a single UOM; and a financial component connected to the inventory management component, the material management component, the sales delivery component, and the warehouse management component, the financial component to value movement of the plurality of goods using the valuation UOM.

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for inventory management. Managing data items in an inventory management system. A request to add a data item to the inventory management system is received. The data item has an associated set of attributes to be represented in the inventory management system. It is determined whether the inventory management system includes a structure in which the data item and the sets of attributes associated with the data item can be represented. If no structure exists in which the data item and the set of attributes associated with the data item can be represented, a new structure is automatically defined in which the data item and the set of attributes associated with the data item can be represented. The data item and the set of attributes associated with the data item is added to the defined new structure.
