A fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine may include a first tank and a second tank connected to each other via a fuel line. A first pump and a first fuel filter may be arranged between the first tank and the second tank. A second fuel pump and a second fuel filter may be arranged between the second tank and the engine. The first fuel filter may have a water separator. A first return line may be fluidly connected to the engine on an inlet side and to the second tank on an outlet side and/or the first fuel filter on a raw side. A preheating valve may be arranged in the first return line and be configured to distribute the fuel flowing back from the engine to the first fuel filter and/or the second tank. A second return line may connect the first and second tank.

Fuel supply system

A module insert includes at least one water level sensor, at least one valve and at least one flow channel for the water. The module insert has at least one container having sorbent mechanism for collecting contaminants from the separated water. A pressure-resistant housing is configured to protect an interior of the module insert from the pressure of the fuel.

Module insert for installation in a liquid filter

A fuel filter having a filter housing including at least one filter element. A water collection chamber configured to collect water separated out of the fuel. An active carbon filter is disposed downstream of the water collection chamber and a water-soluble dividing device is disposed between the water collection chamber and the active carbon filter and is impermeable or insoluble to fuel.

Fuel filter

A method for directly evacuating water that has been separated from the filtered fuel in a fuel filter and has settled in a water collection chamber () of the fuel filter to an evacuation area that lies above the water level, by opening a shut-off valve (), which leads to the exterior of the fuel filter and is connected in a water-conductive manner to the water collection chamber (). Said evacuation takes place under a pressure that is higher in the water collection chamber () in relation to the evacuation area, whereby said pressure differential is created either by the operating pressure within the fuel filter during operation, or by a negative pressure that is applied externally. The method permits the simple evacuation of water form the interior of a fuel filter by a method that is not based on gravity. The inventive method can be implemented in a particularly advantageous manner, using specially configured fuel filters.
