There is described a sheet-fed stamping press (*) comprising a foil application unit (*) designed to allow transfer or lamination of foil material onto successive sheets (S), which foil material is fed to the foil application unit (*) in the form of a foil carrier (FC) supplied by means of a foil feeding system (). The foil application unit (*) comprises a stamping cylinder () at least one circumferential stamping section () provided on a circumference of the stamping cylinder () and comprising successive stamping segments (**) distributed one after the other about the circumference of the stamping cylinder (), the stamping cylinder () also acting as sheet-transporting cylinder and comprising multiple sheet holding units () distributed about the circumference of the stamping cylinder () and designed to hold successive sheets (S) against the circumference of the stamping cylinder (). The foil application unit (*) further comprises a plurality of counter-pressure units () distributed about a portion of the circumference of the stamping cylinder () and designed to press the successive sheets (S) and the foil carrier (FC) against an outer surface of the stamping segments (**), the foil carrier (FC) being supplied by the foil feeding system () between the sheets (S) and the stamping segments (**). Each counter-pressure unit () is designed as a cylinder unit () provided with at least one circumferential pressing element () positioned to cooperate with the circumferential stamping section () of the stamping cylinder

Sheet-fed stamping press having a foil laminating unit

There is described a sheet-fed stamping press (*) comprising a foil application unit (*) designed to allow transfer or lamination of foil material onto successive sheets (S), which foil material is fed to the foil application unit (*) in the form of a foil carrier (FC) supplied by means of a foil feeding system (). The foil application unit (*) comprises a stamping cylinder () with at least one circumferential stamping section () provided on a circumference of the stamping cylinder () and comprising successive stamping segments (**) distributed one after the other about the circumference of the stamping cylinder (), the stamping cylinder () also acting as sheet-transporting cylinder and comprising multiple sheet holding units () distributed about the circumference of the stamping cylinder () and designed to hold successive sheets (S) against the circumference of the stamping cylinder (). The foil application unit (*) further comprises a plurality of counter-pressure units () distributed about a portion of the circumference of the stamping cylinder () and designed to press the successive sheets (S) and the foil carrier (FC) against an outer surface of the stamping segments (**), the foil carrier (FC) being supplied by the foil feeding system () between the sheets (S) and the stamping segments (**). Each counter-pressure unit () is designed as a cylinder unit () provided with at least one circumferential pressing element () positioned to cooperate with the circumferential stamping section () of the stamping cylinder (), and the counter-pressure units () are driven into rotation by means of at least one dedicated drive ().

The sheet numbering process comprises numbering of at least some of the individual sheets (S), wherein numbering of the individual sheets (S) is selectively commutable between a first numbering scheme (N) and at least a second numbering scheme (N; N'; N*), different from the first numbering scheme (N), without interruption of the numbering process. The first numbering scheme (N) involves providing all imprints (P) of a first subset (S) of individual sheets (S) with a unique serial number (SN) of the first numbering scheme (N). The second numbering scheme (N; N&#x2032;; N*) involves providing all or part of the imprints (P) of a second subset (S&#x2032;; S*) of individual sheets (S) with a unique serial number (SN; SN&#x2032;; SN*) of the second numbering scheme (N; N&#x2032;; N*). The first subset (S) of individual sheets (S) and the second subset (S&#x2032;; S*) of individual sheets are sorted after numbering in dependence of the numbering scheme (N; N; N&#x2032;; N*). Also described is a sheet-processing machine for carrying out the aforementioned sheet numbering process.

There is described a sheet-fed or web-fed printing press for numbering and varnishing of security documents, including banknotes, comprising: &#x2014;a numbering group () comprising at least one numbering unit () for numbering printed material in the form of individual sheets or successive portions of a continuous web carrying multiple security imprints; and&#x2014;a varnishing group (*) located downstream of the numbering group () for applying varnish onto recto and verso sides of the printed material, the varnishing group (*) comprising at least a first varnishing unit () disposed above a path of the printed material to apply varnish on the recto side of the printed material and at least a second varnishing unit () disposed below the path of the printed material to apply varnish on the verso side of the printed material.

There is described a method for applying foil material () onto successive sheets (S), especially sheets for the production of securities, such as banknotes. In a first step, individual sheets (S) are transported in succession along a sheet transport path. In a second step, at least one continuous band of foil material () is applied onto the individual sheets (S) along a direction substantially parallel to a direction of displacement (A) of the individual sheets, thereby forming a continuous flow of sheets linked to one another by the said at least one continuous band of foil material (). In a third step, the said at least one continuous band of foil material () is cut by means of a laser beam (L) such that the continuous flow of sheets is again separated into individual sheets (S) with portions of foil material (*) remaining on the sheet. The cutting is performed at positions located on the sheets (S) such that said portions of foil material (*) remaining on the sheets do not extend beyond leading and trailing edges of the sheets (S). Waste portions () of said at least one continuous band of foil material () that are not to remain on the sheets (S) are seized prior to cutting by the laser beam (L) and are held throughout the cutting process. There is also described an installation for carrying out the above method.

Method and installation for applying foil material onto successive sheets

There is described a device and method for magnetically transferring indicia to a coating composition, such as an ink or varnish, applied to at least a part of the surface of a substrate, the coating composition comprising at least one type of magnetic or magnetizable particles. The device comprises a body subjected to a magnetic field generated by appropriate electromagnetic means, which body carries determined indicia in the form of engravings on a surface of the body, which engravings influence orientation of field lines of the magnetic field. The body comprises at least one layer of material of high magnetic permeability in which the engravings are formed. In unengraved regions of the layer of material of high magnetic permeability, the field lines of the magnetic field extend substantially parallel to the surface of the body inside said layer of material of high magnetic permeability.

Device and method for magnetically transferring indicia to a coating composition applied to a substrate

There is also described an installation for carrying out the above method.

The printing machine comprises at least one transfer system () for conveying a substrate () onto an impression cylinder () and at least one screen () of cylindrical or flat shape, with a doctor blade, said screen collaborating with the impression cylinder () and intended to print the substrate with an ink containing pigments that can be orientated by a magnetic field and an unloading system () for carrying the substrate () away. The impression cylinder comprises at least one magnetic element on its impression surface, said magnetic element being positioned at a point corresponding to said impression performed by said screen () on said substrate.

Printing machine

The printing machine comprises at least one transfer system for conveying a substrate onto an impression cylinder and at least one screen of cylindrical or flat shape, with a doctor blade, said screen collaborating with the impression cylinder and intended to print the substrate with an ink containing pigments that can be orientated by a magnetic field and an unloading system for carrying the substrate away. The impression cylinder comprises at least one magnetic element on its impression surface, said magnetic element being positioned at a point corresponding to said impression performed by said screen on said substrate.

A cylinder for stamping planar substrates, such as sheets of paper comprises at least a pit with clamping means for holding a stamping medium on said cylinder, said medium comprising at least a row of stamps distributed along the medium. The medium is formed by a stamping plate or by stamping strips and said cylinder further comprises at least a supporting piece forming a bridge over said pit.

The present invention relates to a device for placing and removing a doctor blade in a printing screen cylinder mounted on a printing machine having a support mounted on the frame of the machine in the continuation of the cylinder, and a track mounted on the support and designed to allow a slider to move parallel only to the axis of the cylinder between a first limit position situated outside of the cylinder and a second limit position situated inside the cylinder facing the working position of the doctor blade.
