In order to allow real-time monitoring of a tracing process during additive manufacture, a device is disclosed for the additive manufacture of a workpiece. A scanning unit () is designed to direct a fusing beam () onto a tracing spot (). The device also has a local-resolution optical detector (), a control unit () and an imaging unit (). The imaging unit () is designed to image a portion () of the tracing surface () on the detector (). The control unit () is designed to control the device in order to change the position of the portion () during manufacture.

Monitoring and process control of the additive manufacture of a workpiece

A meat processing apparatus has an automated analysis stage for analysing meat parts with penetrating radiation. Data is generated for sue in both feedforward and feedback information, and may be used for robotic control of trimming and boning operations. There is a radiation-shielded chamber within which there is a tomography scanner with a scanner controller, arranged to perform analysis of meat parts. A port is used for entry and exit of meat parts placed in carriers into and out of the chamber for analysis by the scanner, and a handling system performs automated movement of the carriers between the port and the scanner. The port has an interlock chamber, having an inner door and an outer door and a controller to ensure that while the scanner is operating only one door can open. The meat parts are inspected automatically by an inspection station and a controller of the inspection station feeds forward data which is used by the scanner controller to control scanner operation according to meat part physical attributes.

A method is provided for reducing noise in a tomogram and/or volume rendering of at least one object. The noise can occur when scattered radiation artifacts are corrected. At least one tomogram that is affected by scattered radiation and at least one preliminary tomogram that has been corrected by a defined correction method are produced from a plurality of projection image datasets that are affected by scattered radiation. The noise emerging when scattered radiation artifacts are corrected may be reduced by selectively smoothening the noise using a filter based on an edge contour of the at least one object, which contour is rendered in the tomogram that is affected by scattered radiation.

A method for induction thermography includes acquiring a plurality of images or an object at each of a plurality of imaging directions, and deriving a combined Fourier-transformed image from the images taken at different imaging directions to detect defects in the object.

Induction thermography method

A method for the ultrasound check of a test object involves moving a test probe along a test probe surface and sending ultrasound impulses into the test object by the test probe. Respective echo signals corresponding with the emitted ultrasound impulses are received by the test probe. An image of a predetermined test region of the test object is prepared on the basis of an overlapping and averaging of amplitude values of the received echo signals by a data processing unit. The respective position of the test probe when sending the ultrasound signals and/or when receiving the corresponding echo signals is captured by a capturing unit. The respectively captured positions of the test probe are considered when creating the image of the test region of the test object.

Method and system for the hand-guided ultrasound check of a test object

Artifacts caused by scattered radiation when generating X-ray images of objects are corrected using a temporally alterable modulation of the primary radiation. A respective set of originally amplitude-modulated modulation projections of the object is generated and a respective scattered image allocated to the respective modulation projections is calculated. The method is particularly suitable for fast CT scans.

Method and apparatus for correcting artifacts during generation of X-ray images, in particular computed tomography, or radiography by means of temporal modulation of primary radiation

A technique is provided for determining an orientation of a defect present within a mechanical component using at least one ultrasonic head that applies ultrasonic signals to the mechanical component starting from various measurement points. Echo ultrasonic signals reflected by a point to be analyzed present within the component back to the measurement points are received by the same or a different ultrasonic head. A data processing unit analyzes the received echo ultrasonic signals as a function of a sound emission direction between each measurement ping and the point to be analyzed for determining the orientation of the defect. A distance between the measurement point and the point to be analyzed is calculated for every measurement point as a function of a signal propagation time between the point in time of emitting the ultrasonic signal and the point in time of receiving the echo ultrasonic signal reflected by a defect.

Method and device for determining an orientation of a defect present within a mechanical component

A method and a device produce X-ray images of objects, according to which artifacts caused by scattered radiation are corrected. To this end, a modulator field is used, that can be moved from a first position to a second position, thereby enabling modulator field areas with small and relatively large X-ray attenuation coefficients to be interchanged. An initial amplitude-modulated projection of the object is respectively produced in each of the two positions, and a scattered image associated with the projection is respectively calculated. This is especially suitable for rapid CT scans.

Method and device for correcting artefacts during X-ray imagery, especially computer tomography, with a moving modulator field

A method for the non-destructive material testing of a test object at least solid in some regions by subjecting the test object to ultrasonic waves and capturing the ultrasonic waves reflected within the test object. The method includes the steps, computer-supported dividing of the test object into a prescribed number of volume elements, subjecting the test object to ultrasound on a plurality of surface elements while probing the surface or at least one surface segment of the test object, capturing the sound waves reflected at the volume element while probing the plurality of surface elements on the surface or at least the surface segment of the test object, and in-phase addition of the sound waves reflected at the same volume elements and captured at various surface elements of the surface of the test object. Angle-dependent amplitude distribution is used in the sound field of the test head.

Method and device for non-destructive material testing of a test object using ultrasonic waves

Automated inspection system and method are provided for nondestructive inspection and evaluation of an electrically-conductive workpiece based on induction thermography. A movable carriage () may be arranged to translate the workpiece in an inspection location (). An induction coilis disposed at the inspection location. The induction coil is responsive to an excitation current to induce a flow of electrical current in a region of interest of the workpiece. A thermographic camera () is disposed at the inspection location. The thermographic camera is arranged to capture data indicative of a thermal response resulting from the flow of electrical current. A computer system () is configured to process the data from the thermographic camera to generate an indication of a presence of a discontinuity (e.g., a subsurface crack) in the workpiece.

Automated inspection system and method for nondestructive inspection of a workpiece using induction thermography

A method for determining parameters of a component using thermography, where at least one component is heated by a hot gas, is provided. Also provided is a device for determining component parameters using thermography, including a device for heating at least one component and a temperature sensor for detecting at least one temperature value of the component, wherein the device for heating the component is a hot gas emission device for the emission of a modulated, mostly pulsed, hot gas.

Method and apparatus for determining component parameters by means of thermography

A method for processing thermography signals. A time series of radiometric data is measured from a surface () of an object () over a period of heating and subsequent cooling, and a mathematical curve () is fit to the data. An amplitude aspect and one or more shape aspects are identified for each curve. The amplitude and shape aspects are then used together to characterize features such as defects in the object. The amplitude and shape aspects for an array of such data may be combined in a single noise-free visual display () by associating hue (color) with the shape aspect and luminance (brightness) with the amplitude aspect. Optionally, a second shape aspect may be identified and associated with saturation on the display. A visible image of the object may be overlaid on the display.

Advanced processing of active thermography signals

A hand-held thermography system (). A generator () supplies current to a transformer () in a handle (). An induction coil () connected to the transformer () extends from the handle (). The induction coil () induces eddy currents in a test object (), producing a thermal topography on a surface () of the object () that reveals structural features including defects in the object. An infrared camera () mounted on the transformer () digitizes images of the thermal topography. A controller () processes the images, displays them on a monitor (), and stores them in a digital memory () for evaluation. Digitized positional data relating the position of the image to the surface may also be stored. An operator () presses a trigger (), signaling the controller () to start current to the induction coil () and simultaneously to acquire and process one or more images from the camera (). The images may be evaluated visually and/or by computerized analysis techniques for analyzing defects in the object.
