A construction machine uses a controller configured to determine a cross-sectional profile of a design surface at a selected position and orientation of a milling drum of the construction machine. The controller automatically determines a preferred sensor sub-set from a plurality of possible sensor sub-sets selected from a set of available sensors. The preferred sensor sub-set must be usable to create at least a portion of the cross-sectional profile of the design surface. The controller automatically maintains or switches control of the milling depth to use the preferred sensor sub-set.

A civil engineering machine has a machine control unit configured to determine data which defines the position and/or orientation of a reference point on the civil engineering machine in relation to a reference system independent of the position and orientation of the civil engineering machine. A geometrical shape to be produced on the ground is preset in either a machine control unit or a field rover control unit. The field rover is used to determine a position of at least one identifiable point of the preset geometrical shape in the independent reference system. Curve data defining a desired curve in the independent reference system, corresponding to the preset shape, is determined at least partially on the basis of the position of the at least one identifiable point of the preset geometrical shape in the independent reference system.

A self-propelled construction machine comprises a machine frame having a working means arranged thereon, and a drive means for driving left and right crawler tracks at respective predetermined chain speeds. A control unit is configured such that, based on a distance between a front reference point with respect to the machine frame in the working direction and a predetermined path, the chain speed(s) of the left and/or right crawler track is predetermined such that the front reference point moves on the predetermined path. A construction machine system comprises a self-propelled construction machine and a total station. The construction machine possesses a machine frame, a drive means and a working means for altering the terrain. A position-determination means determines the position of a reference point on the machine in a first coordinate system independent of the machine. The position-determination means receives satellite signals from a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), wherein in normal operation the machine is controlled using the GNSS such that a reference point on the machine moves along a set target travel path. In a total station control mode, the machine is controlled without the GNSS and only using the total station based on a position of the standpoint and orientation of the total station ascertained in the GNSS control mode, and the position-determination of the construction machine occurs in a second coordinate system based on the total station.

A slip form paver machine includes a slip form mold and left and right side form assemblies closing the slip form mold on the sides. Each side form assembly includes a mounting portion, a side form, and a side form actuator configured to move the side form up and down relative to the mounting portion to adjust a height of the side form relative to the ground surface. At least one side form height sensor is configured to detect the height of the side form. A controller is configured to receive input signals from the side form height sensors and to send control signals to the side form actuators to control the height of the side forms relative to the ground surface.

Slip form paver

A self-propelled construction machine comprises a control unit configured in such a way that a point of reference on the construction machine moves along a route. A processing unit is configured in such a way that the position of at least one kink on the target route is determined from the imported data, at least a portion of the target route is displayed, and, for the section of the target route in which the target route has the kink, an interpolation curve that is substantially free of kinks is calculated. The relevant section of the target route is replaced by the interpolation curve for the determination of a modelled route. The control of the drive device is then not based upon the predetermined target route, but rather the modelled target route.

A slipform paver comprises a machine frame carried by rolling assemblies, at least two of which being drivable and at least one being steerable, as well as comprising a support arranged on the machine frame for a slipform mould and a controller for controlling the rolling assemblies to adjust the velocities of the drivable rolling assemblies and the steering angles of the one or more steerable rolling assemblies. The controller is configured such that, when the steering angles of the one or more steerable rolling assemblies change, the velocities of the drivable rolling assemblies are adjusted so as to reduce the change in the velocity at which a reference point referring to the support for the slipform mould will move along a predefined trajectory, said change in velocity being caused by changing the steering angle. The quality of the concrete profile produced by the slipform paver is thereby improved.
