A nanofiber comprising a polyamide including at least one substituted phenyl group is provided. The nanofiber includes an average diameter from about 50 to about 1000 nm. A fibrous mat including a plurality of the nanofibers is also provided. A composite including a plurality of the nanofibers and a continuous matrix resin is also provided. A method of forming the nanofibers is also provided.

Methods and systems for rendering images

Example methods and articles of manufacture related to electrospun aramid nanofibers are provided. One example method may include forming a resultant solution by reacting a solution of aramids dissolved in a solvent with an electrophile. In this regard, the electrophile may perform a side chain substitution on the dissolved aramids. The example method may further include electrospinning the resultant solution to form an aramid nanofiber.

Electrospinning aramid nanofibers

A capacitive liquid crystal (LC) biosensor for sensing a target biological agent includes a support board; a flow channel on the support board, the flow channel having an inlet port at a first end and an exit port at a second end; at least two electrodes, the at least two electrodes including a first electrode on a flow channel first surface and a second electrode on a flow channel second surface opposite the flow channel first surface; an electricity source connected to the first electrode and the second electrode; and an LC sensor array positioned within the flow channel. An LC sensor array includes a sensor support surface; wells positioned on the sensor support surface; an organic LC phase within each of the plurality of wells; and an aqueous phase having an analyte positioned above the organic LC phase within the wells.

Capacitive liquid crystal biosensors

A system is provided for leasing motor vehicles to credit challenged consumers or consumers that do not qualify for conventional financing. The system utilizes a short term prepaid lease in combination with a device utilizing microprocessor technology installed in the motor vehicle to encourage payment. The consumer pays in advance to use the motor vehicle for a predetermined lease period. If the consumer does not make the prepayment, the device installed in the vehicle prevents the vehicle from operating. The system is used to make a determination as to the amount of a weekly payment a credit challenged consumer ('Consumer') can afford. Using the weekly payment amount, the system then extrapolates the value of a vehicle appropriate for the Consumer's payment ability. Once the lease has been executed, a predetermined operating time is loaded into the device, which is connected to the vehicle's ignition system. The device renders the ignition system inoperable upon there being no authorized operating time remaining in the device. Each week the Consumer prepays for the next week, and upon bank clearing of the payment, an additional week of preloaded operating time is authorized by entering data into the device connected to the ignition system.
