This disclosure relates to a detachable insertion mechanism that includes a torsion spring configured to impart rotational motion to a rotatable assembly and rotate the rotatable assembly between a first position and a second position in response to the rotational motion and a piston mechanism connected to a distal portion of the torsion spring and configured to move from a first insertion position to a second insertion position in response to the motion of the rotatable assembly. The piston mechanism includes a captive introducer needle disposed thereon. The captive introducer needle is configured to pierce tissue.

Torsional insertion devices

A physiological characteristic sensor system includes a physiological characteristic sensor. The physiological characteristic sensor includes a housing having a first housing portion coupled to a second housing portion, and an antenna coupled to the first housing portion. The physiological characteristic sensor system includes a sensor inserter configured to be coupled to the physiological characteristic sensor. The sensor inserter includes a sensor retainer, and the sensor retainer is configured to couple to the second housing portion in a second state to couple the physiological characteristic sensor to the sensor inserter.

Physiological characteristic sensor system

Infusion devices are disclosed herein. The present technology includes, for example, an infusion device for delivering a medicament to a body of a user. The device can comprise an insertion assembly comprising a cannula, a reservoir assembly comprising a reservoir configured to receive a medicament, and a trigger assembly configured to trigger insertion of the cannula into the user in response to a command from a remote computing device communicatively coupled to the infusion device.

Remotely activated cannula insertion

A flexible tubing for a cannula has a hollow tubing body having a length dimension from a first end to a second end, and an outer diameter of no more than 0.9 mm. The tubing body has a section of enhanced flexibility of a greater flexibility than one or more other sections of the tubing body. The section of enhanced flexibility is spaced from the first end of the tubing body by a distance D, where D is within a range of 3.0 mm to 5.0 mm for a flexible tubing having a length of about 9.0 mm, and where D is within a range of 1.0 mm to 2.9 mm for a flexible tubing having a length of about 6.0 mm.

A sensor inserter for a physiological characteristic sensor includes a housing that defines a track system that extends from a bottom of the housing toward a top of the housing. The sensor inserter includes a striker assembly movable relative to the housing between a first state, a second, cocked state and a third, disposal state. The striker assembly is movable from the second, cocked state to the third, disposal state to couple the physiological characteristic sensor to an anatomy. The striker assembly includes a lock beam that engages with the track system as the striker assembly moves between the first state, the second, cocked state and the third, disposal state. In the third, disposal state the lock beam inhibits movement of the striker assembly from the third, disposal state to the first state.

A medical device includes a hub and an adhesive patch coupled to the hub. The adhesive patch is to couple the hub to an anatomy. The adhesive patch defines an edge that extends along a perimeter of the adhesive patch. The medical device includes an anisotropic shim coupled to the adhesive patch along the perimeter of the adhesive patch proximate the edge to resist an uncoupling of the adhesive patch from the anatomy. The anisotropic shim has an inner periphery spaced apart from an outer periphery and the anisotropic shim is locally rigid between the inner periphery and the outer periphery.

Disclosed herein is a fluid infusion device of the type that delivers medication fluid to the body of a patient. The device includes or cooperates with a fluid reservoir, and the device has a sealing assembly to receive and form a fluid seal with the fluid reservoir. A retractable sealing element surrounding a hollow fluid delivery needle may be used to seal a port of the fluid reservoir. The port may include a pressure vent that is sealed by the retractable sealing element. In one variation, the reservoir includes a moving valve sleeve that holds a septum. The septum moves to allow the reservoir to vent, and to form a seal with the port when the needle pierces the septum. In another variation, the device includes a needleless sealing assembly. In yet other variations, the device uses a needled fluid reservoir.

An infusion set for use with a fluid infusion device having a fluid reservoir includes a cannula that provides a fluid flow path and a first housing. The first housing includes an articulation member coupled to the cannula. The articulation member is pivotable relative to the first housing to move the cannula relative to the first housing. The first housing is coupled to a fluid supply line to provide a fluid to the cannula, and the fluid supply line is to be coupled to the fluid reservoir to receive the fluid. The infusion set includes a second housing uncoupled from the first housing that surrounds the first housing and receives a portion of the fluid supply line.

Embodiments relate to a cannula that is provided for delivering a substance, such as a medicine (e.g., insulin) to a patient, where the cannula has reduced likelihood of kinking or occlusions when implanted in a patient. The cannula may have a reduced number of stress concentrations along its length, an angled tip and/or a curve in its length. The cannula may include other designs to reduce kinking, such as internal ribbing and/or a slit along its wall.

A method and apparatus for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump is provided. The reservoir, a base and a cap are connected to form an integrated unit that is capable of being inserted and secured in an infusion pump housing. The cap and the infusion pump are each provided with at least one sensor or at least one detectable feature, arranged to interact with at least one corresponding detectable feature or sensor on the other of the cap and infusion pump device, to detect one or more of the presence, position or other characteristic of the cap when the cap is aligned or coupled with the infusion pump housing. The detectable feature and sensor may be magnetic, RF, mechanical, optical or any combination.

A fluid reservoir for a fluid infusion device is provided. The fluid reservoir includes a first portion that has a first end and a second end. The first end includes a fluid delivery port and at least one bubble retaining feature adjacent to the fluid delivery port. The fluid reservoir includes a second portion received in the second end of the first portion and movable within the first portion from the first end to the second end. The fluid reservoir defines a fluid chamber between the first portion and the second portion.

A system for filling a fluid reservoir of a fluid infusion device with a fluid is provided. The system includes the fluid reservoir having a first portion and a second portion. A fluid chamber is defined between the first portion and the second portion. The second portion is movable within the first portion and includes an interface. The system includes a transfer guard having a first end and a second end. The first end to be coupled to a source of the fluid and the second end having at least one locking member that couples to the interface. The transfer guard defines a fluid flow path for the fluid from the source, and the transfer guard is movable relative to the first portion to fill the fluid chamber with the fluid.

Fluid infusion device and related sealing assembly for a needleless fluid reservoir

Systems for managing pressure in a fluid reservoir chamber of a fluid infusion device are provided. For example, a fluid infusion device comprises a housing having a reservoir chamber that receives a fluid reservoir and a pump chamber. The fluid infusion device also includes a drive system contained within the pump chamber, and the drive system includes a slide that is movable relative to the fluid reservoir. The slide includes a proximal slide end that cooperates with a portion of the fluid reservoir to dispense fluid, and the proximal slide end has a projection. The fluid infusion device includes a pressure management system defined in the projection of the slide. The pressure management system includes at least one bore defined through the projection. The at least one bore is spaced a distance apart from a perimeter of the projection to vent air from the reservoir chamber into the pump chamber.

Systems for managing reservoir chamber pressure

A fluid infusion device includes a pump mechanism having a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a reference surface and a cam element rising from the reference surface. The stator includes a cam element with a stator cam surface. The cam elements cooperate to axially displace the rotor as it rotates. A drive motor is coupled to actuate the rotor to pump medication fluid from a fluid cartridge module to a body, via a subcutaneous conduit. A sensor contact element resides on the reference surface in an area unoccupied by the rotor cam element. A sensing element terminates at the stator cam surface, and cooperates with a detection circuit to detect when the stator cam surface contacts the sensor contact element. The circuit monitors a detection signal obtained from the sensing element to determine an operating condition of the pump mechanism.
