A tooth jump protection device is used to control chain slack and delay the torque at which chain jump occurs, thus increasing jump torque performance. The tooth jump protection device is preferably mounted to the transfer case.

A pattern for application to the face of the tensioner arm, guide or snubber in contact with a chain to intentionally break up the chain contact force between the back of the chain links and the tensioner arm, guide or snubber face. This is done to prevent alignment with the chain related orders which are causing NVH within the chain system or to increase overall NVH to obscure chain related orders.

A chain tensioning device which combats natural build-up of chain slack. In controlling the chain slack, the torque at which a chain jumps occurs is delayed resulting in a higher jump torque performance.

A press-fit check valve for a hydraulic tensioner includes a retainer, a seat, a ball, and a spring. The seat of the check valve is press-fit against the wall of the check valve counterbore of the hydraulic tensioner body. In some embodiments, the seat is cup-shaped to provide a predetermined level of press force retention of the press-fit check valve. In some embodiments, the seat includes a plurality of legs separated by leg openings. In some embodiments, a backflow path is provided past the press-fit check valve by a combination of the leg openings and at least one backflow slot through a flange of the retainer. In some embodiments, a lip at the outer end of the check valve counterbore prevents the seat from backing out of the check valve counterbore.

A number of variations may include a product comprising: an orifice flow valve comprising: a disk, wherein the disk comprises at least one orifice which is constructed and arranged to direct a forward flow of a fluid through the at least one orifice and to impede a backflow of the fluid through the at least one orifice.

A product for applying tension is disclosed. A block may have a first passage opening into the block. A body may have a first manifold and may be positioned against the block so that the first passage is open to the first manifold. The body may have a flow path for providing fluid from the first manifold to a second manifold and there through to a pressure chamber. The flow path may include a series of channels and may be configured to allow substantially unimpeded flow from the first manifold to the second manifold, and to impede flow from the second manifold to the first manifold. The flow path may be free of movable components.

A product for applying tension is disclosed. The product may include a block with a first bore opening into to the block. A body may be provided having a second bore substantially larger in diameter than the first bore. The body may be positioned against the block so that the first bore is open to the second bore. The body may have a passage for providing fluid to a pressure chamber from the second bore. The passage may be arranged to open to the second bore and form a tangent to the second bore. Fluid may flow from the first bore to the pressure chamber through the second bore and the passage substantially unimpeded. Fluid flow is impeded from the passage to the first bore as a result of the configuration of the first bore, second bore and passage.

An integrated valve for a hydraulic tensioner includes a pressure relief valve with an integrated disk check valve surrounding the pressure relief valve. A hydraulic tensioner includes a housing with a bore and a hollow piston slidably received within the bore. A piston spring biases the piston in a direction toward a power transmission device. The tensioner also includes an integrated check valve in a body of the housing. The integrated check valve includes a pressure relief valve mechanism and a disk check valve mechanism surrounding a circumference of the pressure relief valve mechanism. The pressure relief valve mechanism permits transfer of pressurized fluid from a piston chamber formed by the hollow piston to the source of pressurized fluid and the check valve mechanism permits transfer of pressurized fluid from the source of pressurized fluid to the piston chamber.

The check valve () can be combined with a hydraulic tensioner () for an endless, flexible, power transmission member () for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.

Variable flow check valve for hydraulic tensioner

An apparatus and process for forming compacted powder metal parts having a non-axial undercut feature. An undercut die is located between the upper and the lower dies and contains a plurality of shaped punches aligned in a circular pattern. Each of the shaped punches contains a working edge. The working edges converge to form an inner circumference which creates the undercut feature. The edges of the shaped punches slide with respect to each other to change the size of the inner circumference from a maximum diameter position to a minimum diameter position. During compaction, the rotation of the shaped punches alters the inner circumference to its minimum diameter position thereby forming an undercut in the final compacted part. The retraction of the shaped punches to its maximum diameter position enables the unimpeded removal of the part from the tool set.
