A probe for inspecting the inside of a large diameter, substantially vertical, limited access pipe. The probe includes an elongated probe housing having a series of flexible joint along its length to permit the probe to be positioned within the pipe. A plurality of radially extendable guide arms are attached to the lower end of the probe housing for positioning the probe within the pipe and, in the preferred embodiment, a stabilizer weight is attached to the elongated housing adjacent to the guide arms for preventing unstable movement of the probe much like a tail on a kite. In the preferred embodiment, the probe further includes a rotational drive for rotating the plurality of radially extendable guide arms with respect to the elongated housing. In addition, sensors are located on the ends of each guide arm to permit the inside surface of the pipe to be more completely inspected for defects. Also, an axial drive moves the probe along the length of the pipe and is controlled by an output from the drive for rotating the plurality of radially extendable guide arms with respect to the elongated housing.

Pipe inspection probe

The invention is a lock for male electrical connectors used with appliances and power equipment and consists of a housing with receiving slots for the connector prongs and a U-shaped spring in the housing containing nibs that engage the apertures on the connector prongs. A spring biased plunger engages the arms and cause them to release the prongs when depressed. Cooperating holes through the housing and the plunger allow a lock to pass through and disable the plunger. The spring biasing the plunger is selectibly changeable for situations where a stronger spring would negate the use of a lock. The housing is sufficiently thin that a three conductor plug could be locked without interference from the ground prong.

Electrical male plug lock

A nuclear fuel element for a particle bed reactor. Concentric inner and outer porous cylinders attached at either end define an annulus therebetween that contains a fuel particle bed of nuclear fuel material. The outer porous cylinder is provided with fins that extend radially outward along its entire length. A nonporous cylinder is attached to the outer porous cylinder at either end and is positioned around the outer porous cylinder so as to be concentric therewith. Flexible fins extend radially inward form the nonporous cylinder along its entire length and contact the fins on the outer porous cylinder for conduction of heat to heat removal tubes on the outer surface of the nonporous cylinder. The heat removal tubes allow bimodal cooling of the particle bed reactor.

Nuclear fuel element for a particle bed reactor

A method for converting a vertically downward flow of bypass coolant through coolant flow holes in a core barrel and former plates in a nuclear reactor to a vertically upward flow. Coolant flow holes are provided in the normally solid top former plate by suitable means such as drilling. These new coolant flow holes are located so as to be substantially in coaxial alignment with the existing coolant flow holes in the intermediate and lower former plates. Existing coolant flow holes in the core barrel adajcent the top former plate are plugged. Existing coolant flow holes in the lower former plate are plugged in an alternating pattern with each fifth hole being plugged having only forty-four percent of its flow area plugged.

Method for converting a downward flow of bypass coolant to an upward flow

A flexureless insert guide assembly. An annular shaped body inserted through the hole in a guide structure card has spring loaded arms pivotally mounted in the body which snap outward to retain the assembly in place. The assembly has an exterior groove adapted to receive removal tooling which causes retraction of the arms for removal of the assembly.
