An extended protocol provides a serial bus with the capability of effective communications for a multimaster bus. A bus device may enter a master mode and transmit information identifying a designated recipient device on the bus. Either the master mode device or the designated recipient device may send information that identifies the master mode bus device. The master mode device may read from the designated recipient device or may write to the designated recipient device. The designated recipient device may provide an acknowledgement, data, a command, or status information may be sent back. The status information may include version information regarding the hardware, software, and/or firmware of the designated recipient device.

Multi-master extended I2C protocol

Disclosed is a test method for a computer microprocessor adapted to stress the data transfer interfaces within a microprocessor. The method incorporates patterns designed to stress the interfaces and are further repeated in different widths such that interfaces of various bus widths are fully stressed. Further, the method begins with the various test patterns preloaded into memory to maximize the speed and thus the stress of the test.

Diagnostic memory interface test

A microprocessor based system automatically detects the occurrence of certain conditions in the microprocessor. The conditions may include a determination of data corruption in the microprocessor. If a determination is made that data is corrupted, the microprocessor may be reloaded from a non-volatile memory. During a reload, a microcontroller controls the microprocessor. The non-volatile memory may be a flash memory or non-volatile random access memory.

Automode select

A battery charger system and method are disclosed for providing detailed battery status and charging method information and for controlling the charging of the battery. A controller is provided within the battery charger. The controller starts a measurement cycle. During the measurement cycle, current battery characteristics are determined by the battery charger. The controller determines a current charging method of the battery. Then controller then utilizes the battery characteristics and current charging method to determine an appropriate charging method for the battery. The controller then causes the battery charger to charge the battery utilizing the appropriate charging method.

Battery charger system and method for providing detailed battery status and charging method information

A battery charger method and apparatus are disclosed for providing detailed battery status and charging method information for a selected one of multiple batteries that are simultaneously coupled to the battery charger. The battery charger includes a controller. The controller selects one of the batteries to monitor and charge. The controller then starts a measurement cycle for the selected battery. During the measurement cycle, the controller determines current battery characteristics of the selected battery. The controller determines whether the selected battery is ready for charging by determining whether the battery characteristics of the selected battery are within a specified range. If the controller determines that the selected battery is ready for charging, the controller causes the battery charger to start charging the battery. If the controller determines that the selected battery is not ready for charging, the controller selects another battery to monitor and charge. Detailed information about the selected battery may be provided from the controller to a processor that is external to the controller.
