Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and software for providing enhanced reliability for information services. In an implementation, a method performed by a first data processing system is disclosed for operating a proxy service to support an information service provided by an application executed by a device remote to the first data processing system. The method comprises: registering the information service in association with an address unique to the information service; receiving information requests associated with the address via a data transmission network, wherein the information requests are sent from a second data processing system hosting an online service and remote from the first data processing system and the device; maintaining activity information indicative of whether any of the information requests were received while the application was in an unavailable state; and if the application has transitioned to an available state from a state different from the unavailable state, sending the activity information to the application.

Enhanced reliability for information services

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and software for providing enhanced reliability for web services. In an implementation, a proxy service supports web services provided by a client application to at least an online service. While the client application is temporarily disconnected from the proxy service, the proxy service monitors for web services activity to occur in association with the web services provided by the client application to at least the online service. In response to the client application reconnecting to the proxy service after having been temporarily disconnected from the proxy service, the proxy service communicates activity information to the client application indicative at least of whether or not to query the online service with respect to the web services activity.

Enhanced reliability for client-based web services

A method of associating a first device with a second device is disclosed. The first device through a connected speaker broadcasts a request for association using an audio signal. The broadcasted audio signal is received by the second device through its microphone. The first and second devices then cooperatively verifies a security code and upon a successful verification of the security code, the first and the second devices are enabled to communicate with each other.

Device association

Various embodiments provide a system for modifying a channel binding in order to relay packets between a relay client and a peer in a peer-to-peer (P2P) communication event across a network. A relay server receives a request to bind a channel in order to relay the packets for the communication event. The relay server creates requirements for a communication path. The relay server sends the requirements to a Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller. The SDN controller in turn creates and installs flows and flow tables in SDN switches to relay the packets across the network for the communication event.

Relay optimization using software defined networking

Techniques to provide persistent uniform resource locators (URLs) for client applications acting as web services are described herein. In one or more implementations, the techniques utilize standard protocols and libraries (e.g., standard HTTP) without relying upon custom/propriety plug-ins. An intermediary server functions as a tunnel service is configured to provide functionality for handling communications between endpoints on behalf of client applications. Additionally, the tunnel service provides a mechanism to generate and assign persistent URLs (or comparable addresses) to client applications. Entities seeking to interact with the client applications use corresponding URLs to direct requests via the tunnel service and down to the appropriate client application. Local storage associated with the client application is employed to store the credentials, such that the URL persists across multiple sessions and the same URL is generated repeatedly by the tunnel service each time corresponding and valid credentials are supplied by a client.

Persistent uniform resource locators (URLs) for client applications acting as web services

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, based on multi-bit-rate streaming for inserting secondary streaming media into primary streaming media are described. In some implementations, the secondary streaming media, also referred to as insertion-media, may be advertisements. In other implementations, the secondary streaming media may be breaking news, emergency notifications or public service announcements. The systems and methods disclosed in this specification enable seamless integration of insertion-media streams with a primary media stream for providing a viewer a high-quality online video experience.

Providing integration of multi-bit-rate media streams

A method of associating a first device with a second device is disclosed. The first device through its speaker broadcasts a request for association using an audio signal. In general, aspects of the subject matter described can be embodied in methods that include establishing, based on cryptographic information in a reserved, random-data portion of a handshake communication, a session, receiving parameter values relating to a sub media stream, included in a header of a network communication, storing the parameter values, obtaining state information and a data payload included in a second network communication, identifying, from the state information, a purpose of the second network communication, and whether a header of the second network communication includes one or more new values corresponding to one or more of the parameters, updating one or more of the stored values based on the one or more new values, and processing the data payload based on the identified purpose and the stored parameter values.

Imparting real-time priority-based network communications in an encrypted communication session

A method of pairing a first device with a second device is disclosed. Accordingly, an image that includes encoded data is generated. The encoded data includes a unique identifier for identifying the first device and an arbitrary security code. The first device displays the image on a display. The second device captures the image using an image sensing device. The encoded data is decoded to generate a decoded data. The second device sends the decoded data to a server that is communicatively connected to the first device and the second device. Upon receiving the decoded data and using the unique identifier, the server communicates with the first device to verify the arbitrary security code.

Device association via video handshake

Multimedia files, such as audio programming, are currently available to Internet users through a combination of their personal computer, an optional portable digital audio player, and an Internet connection. Many audio programs are now currently distributed over the Internet in a syndicated form known as a 'podcast', allowing users to access the latest version or 'episode' of the program. The disclosed systems and methods provide a convenient, publicly-accessible system for allocating and using dedicated phone numbers to enable access to these programs. A person can simply place a telephone call and listen to such syndicated or otherwise distributed audio programming through the telephone network without the use of a computer or portable digital audio player.

Phonecasting systems and methods

Systems, methods, and computer-program products enable multicasts. Data corresponding to a multicast from a source is received from a native multicast address. Other data corresponding to the multicast from the sources is also received from a mesh network. The data and the other data is assembled to generate combined data, and at least some of the combined data is stored or displayed.

A method of pairing a first device with a second device is disclosed. Accordingly, an image that include encoded data is generated by the first device. The encoded data includes a unique identifier for identifying the first device and an arbitrary security code. The first device displays the image on a display.
