A vehicle component includes a surface that is configured to contact a fuel containing ethanol and zinc ions. A sacrificial carbon layer is disposed on the surface. The sacrificial carbon layer has a thickness of greater than or equal to about 250 nm to less than or equal to about 5 &#x3bc;m. The sacrificial carbon layer includes carbon that is configured to complex and solubilize ZnO deposited on the surface, wherein the ZnO forms from the zinc ions carried by the fuel.

A fuel pump coolant assembly includes a fuel pump cap having a flanged bottom surface and a fuel pump support structure. A fuel cooling ring disposed between the fuel pump cap and the fuel pump support structure, wherein a sealed coolant cavity is formed by a portion of an external surface of the fuel pump support structure and an internal surface of the fuel cooling ring.

A fuel system for a vehicle propulsion system includes a fuel temperature determination module that determines a temperature of a fuel, a fuel pressure determination module that determines a pressure of the fuel, a prime determination module that determines whether the determined fuel temperature is above a vaporization temperature on a predetermined distillation curve and the fuel pressure is below the predetermined distillation curve at the determined fuel temperature, and a controller programmed to command operation of a fuel pump in response to the prime determination module determining that the determined fuel temperature is above a vaporization temperature on the predetermined distillation curve and the fuel pressure is below the predetermined distillation curve at the determined fuel temperature.

Method and system for fuel control in a vehicle propulsion system

An engine fuel delivery system includes a fuel pump having a pumping chamber to increase fuel pressure and a closeable inlet valve, and a fuel rail to communicate pressurized fuel received from the fuel pump to at least one engine cylinder. The engine fuel delivery system also includes a controller programmed to issue a control signal to periodically close the inlet valve to generate a setpoint fuel pressure within the pumping chamber. The controller is also programmed to adjust a control signal gain value in response to deviation in an outlet fuel pressure relative to the setpoint fuel pressure. The controller is further programmed to issue a warning message in response to the control signal gain being adjusted by more than a predetermined threshold from a calibrated gain value.

Systems and methods for performing prognosis of fuel delivery systems

A pressure diagnostic system includes a pressure error calculating module that generates a pressure error based on a first pressure signal and a second pressure signal. A difference calculating module generates a desired pressure difference based on a current desired pressure and a prior desired pressure. A lag filter module applies lag filter to the pressure error to generate a lag filtered pressure error. A fault module selectively generates a fault based on the lag filtered pressure error.

Pressure diagnostic system and method

An isolated fuel delivery system for an internal combustion engine includes a fuel rail with a clamping method operable to retain an isolating member with respect to the fuel rail. The isolating member operates to isolate the vibratory motion of the fuel delivery system form the attachment point or points. The attachment point is typically a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine. Additionally, an isolating ring assembly is provided having a first and second stiffening member with an isolating ring member disposed therebetween. The isolating ring assembly is disposed between a fuel injector of the isolated fuel delivery system and the cylinder head. The isolating ring member operates to isolate the vibratory motion of the fuel injector from the internal combustion engine.

Isolated fuel delivery system

The absolute angular position of an internal combustion engine is determined by monitoring engine intake manifold pressure at a strategic position in the manifold affected most significantly by the intake event of a predetermined cylinder. A significant or maximum depression in manifold pressure over each engine cycle then is indicative of the intake stroke of the predetermined cylinder.
