In an example of recording medium identification method, a digital image of a line or a dot printed on a recording medium with a printer is captured by an image sensor. From the digital image, a microprocessor (operatively connected to the image sensor), digitally measures a width of the line, a diameter of the dot, an area of the dot, or a perimeter of the dot. The microprocessor identifies a type of the recording medium based on the width, the diameter, the area, or the perimeter. In response to the identification of the type of the recording medium, a print setting for the type of the recording medium is selected.

Recording medium identification

The present disclosure is drawn to a dispersed magenta pigment blend, including a first pigment including Pigment Violet 19 and Pigment Red 122, or Pigment Red 282; and a second pigment including Pigment Red 150. The weight ratio of the first pigment to the second pigment can be from 50:50 to 80:20 by pigment solids content.

Magenta inks

The present disclosure is drawn to a pigment-based inkjet ink and methods. The inkjet ink includes water; from 2 wt % to 9 wt % pigment solids; from 0.05 wt % to 2 wt % of an acetylenic diol non-ionic surfactant; from 0.05 wt % to 2 wt % of a second surfactant. The second surfactant can be a polysorbate having at least 50% lipophilic oleic acid groups and having an HLB value of less than 15, or a C-Cpolyoxyethylene glycol ether having an ethylene oxide number less than 20, or a perfluoropolyether including a polyethylene glycol primary alcohol or diol. The inkjet ink also includes from 5 wt % to 50 wt % of an organic solvent system comprising triethylene glycol and a cyclic amide.

Pigment-based inkjet inks

An ink composition includes colorant, co-solvent system, acid (e.g., oleic, linoleic, undecanoic, dodecanoic, and/or tridecanoic acids), lithium, polymer as binder, and water. The co-solvent system is selected from i) from &#x2dc;9 to &#x2dc;25 wt % of sulfolane with no other co-solvent, ii) hydroxylated co-solvent, from &#x2dc;4 to &#x2dc;16 wt % of sulfolane, and at least 8 wt % of another non-hy-droxylated co-solvent; iii) hydroxylated co-solvent, from &#x2dc;7 to &#x2dc;16 wt % of sulfolane, and at least 3 wt % of the other non-hydroxylated co-solvent; and iv) a hydroxylated co-solvent and from &#x2dc;9 wt % to &#x2dc;16 wt % of sulfolane. When i) or ii) or iv) is used, at least 0.15 wt % acid and at least 200 ppm lithium are included; or when iii) is used, at least 0.25 wt % acid and at least 100 ppm lithium are included; or when iii) is used, at least 0.15 wt % acid and at least 150 ppm lithium are included.

Ink composition

The present disclosure is drawn to a magenta pigment blend, a magenta ink, and a method of formulation a magenta pigment blend. The magenta pigment blend can be a first pigment including a solid solution of Pigment Violet 19 and Pigment Red 122, or Pigment Red 282; and a second pigment including Pigment Red 150. The weight ratio of the first pigment to the second pigment can be from 50:50 to 80:20 by pigment solids content.

In one example, an ink set with color-to-color bleed control on media includes a first ink in the ink set with a bound dispersant and a first amount of surfactant and a second ink in the ink set with a free dispersant and a second amount of surfactant greater than the first amount of surfactant. A method for forming an ink set with reduced color-to-color bleed is also provided.

Color-to-color ink bleed control on media

A print medium having increased resistance to gasfade. An inhibitor comprising a sulfur-containing polymer is incorporated into the print medium. The sulfur-containing polymer is poly(1,4-phenylene sulfide) or poly(1,3-phenylene sulfide). The inhibitor is present in at least a surface of the print medium and may be present in the print medium in a concentration from approximately 0.25% by weight per cmof the print medium to approximately 30% by weight per cmof the print medium. A method of forming the print medium is disclosed as is a method of producing a printed image having increased resistance to gasfade.

Protection of printed images from gasfade

A method of security printing can comprise the steps of printing a transparent ink onto a portion of a coated substrate resulting in printed region and an unprinted region, where the transparent ink is devoid of dyes, pigments, ceramics, metallics, and fluorescents; illuminating both the printed region and the unprinted region of the substrate, where the printed region scatters more light than the unprinted region creating a contrast; and detecting the contrast with a sensor that is sensitive to detecting light scattering differences between the printed region and the unprinted region.

Ink-jet ink sets

The present invention is directed to dye sets and ink formulated using the same, and in particular dye and ink sets for ink jet printing. The dyes/inks are configured to work in cooperation with one another to produce high quality printed images.

Dye sets for inkjet imaging and ink sets using the same

The present invention is drawn to ink sets ink-jet imaging, including ink sets having six ink-jet inks. In one embodiment, the ink set can comprise a black ink including a first organic solvent system, a cyan ink including a second organic solvent system, a magenta ink including a third organic solvent system, and a yellow ink including a fourth organic solvent system. In this embodiment, at least two of the organic solvent systems are different. The first organic solvent system can include a first organic solvent and a second organic solvent. The second and third organic solvent systems can include the first organic solvent and a third organic solvent. The fourth organic solvent system can include the second organic solvent and a fourth organic solvent. These solvent systems, and others, can also be used to prepare various dye sets that are dye specific.

Ink sets for ink-jet ink imaging

The present invention is drawn to dye sets for formulating ink-jet inks, including ink sets having six ink-jet inks. In one embodiment, the dye set can comprise a yellow dye for formulating a yellow ink, a pair of magenta dyes for formulating a magenta ink and a pale magenta ink, a pair of cyan dyes for formulating a cyan ink and a pale cyan ink, and a black dye for formulating a black ink-jet ink. The pair of magenta dyes can be a transition metal-containing azo dye and a non-metallized dye. The pair of cyan dyes can be a first copper phthalocyanine dye and a second copper phthalocyanine dye that is different than the first copper phthalocyanine dye.

Dye sets for ink-jet ink imaging

An ink set for ink-jet printing, having at least one ink of the ink set comprising a light dye load and a dark dye load with both the light dye load and the dark dye load being one color. The one color is selected from magenta, cyan, yellow and black; and the light dye load being at least one of air fade resistant, light fade resistant and humid color migration resistant. The invention also relates to a method of inkjet printing with such a method.
