An oscillating surgical rasp for use in the surgical preparation of a glenoid of a patient prior to implantation of an augmented glenoid prosthesis comprises an attachment head and a cutting head secured to the attachment head. The attachment head has a body that extends along a longitudinal axis from a first end configured to be secured in a chuck of an oscillating tool to a second end secured to the cutting head. The first end of the body of the attachment head defines an axis of oscillation that extends orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the oscillating surgical rasp. Surgical methods for the use of such oscillating rasps are also disclosed.

Oscillating rasp for use in an orthopaedic surgical procedure

A method of surgically implanting a glenoid component into the glenoid of a patient is disclosed. The method includes securing a rasp guide into the glenoid of the patient. The method also includes oscillating a surgical rasp over the rasp guide to form a cavity that is shaped to receive the glenoid component. The method also includes implanting the glenoid component in the cavity.

A method of installing a prosthesis assembly includes installing a base component in a prepared glenoid vault, axially aligning a plurality of slots in one of a stretched glenoid bearing component and a base component with a plurality of ridges in the other of the glenoid bearing component and the base component, each of the plurality of slots having a maximum length which is greater than a maximum length of a respective one of the plurality of ridges, engaging each of the plurality of ridges with the respective one of the plurality of grooves thereby rotatably coupling the glenoid bearing component and the base component and limiting axial movement of the glenoid bearing component relative to the base component, and placing the bearing surface into articulating contact with a humeral head.

A prosthesis assembly configured for use with a scapula in one embodiment includes a spherical humeral component, an elongated glenoid bearing including a first bearing surface with (i) a first spherical end portion with a first radius of curvature, (ii) a second spherical end portion with a second radius of curvature, and (iii) a central portion located between the first spherical end portion and the second spherical end portion, and a first coupling portion extending from a second bearing surface opposite the bearing surface, and a base configured to rotatably support the elongated glenoid bearing, wherein the first radius of curvature is substantially equal to the second radius of curvature and the central portion does not have a radius of curvature that is substantially equal to the second radius of curvature.

The cutting surface has a plurality of cutting teeth arranged in a geometry that, when oscillated along a predetermined path in contact with the glenoid of the patient, corresponds with the geometry of the augmented glenoid prosthesis.
