A custom color paint or stain tinting system employs a dark-colored non-infrared-absorptive liquid base paint or stain and a point-of-sale array of concentrated liquid colorants which when dispensed into the base paint or stain provide custom-tinted non-infrared-absorptive paints or stains in lightened shades and a variety of tints. Dark custom-tinted paints or stains are tinted lighter from a dark-colored base, not darker from a white or light colored base as is done in conventional point-of-sale systems.

In-store tintable non-infrared-absorptive paint and stain system

A custom color paint or stain tinting system employs at least one light-colored non-infrared-absorptive base paint or stain packaged in a point-of-sale container and an array of colorants including an infrared-absorptive black liquid colorant, a non-infrared-absorptive black liquid colorant, and one or more additional liquid colorants made with non-infrared-absorptive pigments. The infrared-absorptive black liquid colorant or non-infrared-absorptive black liquid colorant may respectively be used to make custom-tinted interior or exterior paints and stains.

The present invention provides compositions and methods which are adapted to impart color to concrete or mineral substrate surfaces. Specifically, the present invention relates to a composition and methods adapted to treat concrete surfaces which have the advantage of using a non-corrosive acid-based solution.

Weak acid based concrete stain

The present invention provides acidic compositions and methods that are adapted to impart color to cementitious or mineral substrate surfaces. Specifically, the present invention relates to acidic compositions and methods adapted to treat cementitious or mineral substrate surfaces that have the advantage of using a less corrosive acid-based solution. The acidic composition incorporates species including a weak base in equilibrium with a conjugate acid. The presence of such species moderates the corrosive behavior of the acid while still allowing excellent coloring action to occur.

Concrete coloring compositions and methods

An aqueous polymer dispersion comprising polymer particles (A), polymer particles (B) and at least one low molecular weight polymer (C) where polymer particles (A) comprise high molecular weight polymer pA having Mw &#x3e;50,000 and acid number of from 0 to 160, polymer particles (B) comprise high molecular weight polymer pB having Mw &#x3e;50,000 and acid number of from 0 to 160, and C is an addition polymer having a calculated Tg,(low) of less than 10&#xb0; C., Mn &#x3c;10,000, acid number of from 0 to 80, formed by the polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomer.

Aqueous polymer dispersions

Porous films are provided which include a blend of a film forming polymer and a non-film forming material, the film having a network of pores or channels throughout the film. The porous polymer films are formed between 0&#xb0; and 80&#xb0; C., retain porosity at elevated temperatures and are non-friable. A process for preparing porous polymer films and their applications are disclosed.

Process for producing porous polymer films

An aqueous polymer composition is provided containing select levels of hard polymer and soft polymer, wherein the hard polymer and the soft polymer are contained as dispersed particles. Portions of the hard polymer and optionally, the soft polymer, have select chemical groups. The aqueous polymer composition also contains composite particles formed from pigment particles and a plurality of polymer particles having the select chemical groups. The aqueous polymer composition is useful for preparing coatings having a combination of improved hiding, low temperature film formation, and hardness properties, such as dirt pickup resistance. Methods to prepare and to use the aqueous polymer composition are also provided.

Aqueous polymer composition

An ambient curable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles containing pendant ethylenically unsaturated side chains; a method of applying to a substrate a coating composition containing the aqueous dispersion of polymer particles; and a method of making the aqueous dispersion of polymer particles are provided.

Ambient curable polymer

A polymer composition including polymer particles containing a first polymer and a second polymer is disclosed. The first polymer has a crosslinked core and has a glass transition temperature in the range of &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. to 100&#xb0; C. The second polymer containing select crosslinking groups and has a glass transition temperature in the range of &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. to less than 18&#xb0; C. A process to prepare the polymer composition is provided. Also provided are a coated article containing a coating prepared from the polymer composition and a method of preparing the coated article. The polymer composition has good low temperature film formation and provides a film with an acceptable level of hardness.

An aqueous coating composition having improved adhesion to friable surfaces including an emulsion polymer of certain compositions and certain acid numbers having a glass transition temperature of &#x2212;20 C to 100 C and an average particle diameter less than 120 nanometers; and 0.25-10%, by weight based on emulsion polymer weight, water-soluble alkoxylated amine is provided. In addition a method for for improving adhesion to friable surfaces by using the aqueous coating compositions of the invention is provided.
