A system and method is disclosed for detecting remaining battery voltage or capacity in an infusion device and generating alarms based on the detection. The battery lifetime extension method includes providing an infusion device that derives its power from a rechargeable battery. The infusion device may derive its power from a rechargeable battery. Furthermore, the infusion device receives, at predetermined intervals of time in real-time sensor data comprising: a voltage, a change in the voltage over the predetermined interval of time, an average current, a temperature, and a remaining voltage or capacity reported by a battery gas gauge integrated circuit ('IC') associated with the rechargeable battery. An improved and customized neural network model utilizes the sensor data to determine an indicia of the actual remaining voltage or capacity of the rechargeable battery in real-time. The indicia may be used to lengthen and/or abate ongoing medical infusion therapy.

System and method for generating battery alarms in infusion devices

An infusion pump operable with a syringe having a syringe barrel and a syringe plunger includes a housing having a compartment to receive the syringe and defining a wall, and a syringe clamp moveable towards and away from the wall, the syringe clamp contacting the syringe barrel; a drive mechanism supported and structured and arranged to contact and end of the syringe plunger so as to be able to move the syringe plunger within the syringe barrel; a syringe barrel size sensor including a magnet operably coupled to the syringe clamp, and a sensing member supported by the housing and configured to generate an output indicative of a magnetic field associated with the magnet; and software installed on the pump and programmed to use the output to determine a size of the syringe barrel received by the compartment.

A method of delivering a medical fluid to a patient includes enabling the attachment of an infusion pump housing to an external support, enabling the viewing of information right-side-up on a display screen of the infusion pump housing, enabling the rotation of the display screen approximately 90 degrees about an axis extending perpendicularly from the display screen, automatically reorienting the information on the display screen so that the information remains right-side-up after rotation, enabling the viewing of the information right-side-up on the display screen after rotation, and enabling the delivery of a flowable material to the patient through an infusion line attached to the infusion pump housing before and after rotation.

Method of operating an infusion pump with a multiple orientation display

An infusion pump includes a housing having a compartment structured to receive a syringe and a drive mechanism supported by the housing. The drive mechanism is structured and arranged to contact a syringe plunger of the syringe and move the syringe plunger within a syringe barrel of the syringe. The infusion pump further includes a syringe plunger position sensor and a syringe barrel size sensor. The sensors each include a magnet positioned on the drive mechanism and a magnetic sensor array supported by the housing.

An infusion pump includes a housing; a user interface carried by the housing; a pump actuator positioned by the housing so as to be able to actuate a medical fluid pump member; and wherein the user interface and the pump actuator are powered interchangeably by a first, rechargeable battery unit and a second battery unit, both the first and second battery units configured to power the user interface and the pump actuator at a place for which outside power is unavailable, and such that the user interface and the pump actuator can be powered by the second battery unit while the first battery unit is being recharged.
