A piezoelectric rotary optical mount including a clamp including a first hole to hold a hollow member, wherein a contact between the clamp and the hollow member generates a coefficient of friction; a bias element adjacent to the first hole to apply a force to control rotational movement of the hollow member by adjusting the coefficient of friction; and a piezoelectric element to actuate the bias element to apply the force. The clamp may include a housing body including a first end and a second end, wherein the first hole extends in a first axis through the housing body to accommodate the hollow member; a pair of elongated cutout regions extending from the first hole towards the second end to define the bias element; and a second hole adjacent to at least one of the cutout regions to accommodate the piezoelectric element.

A magneto-optical trap chamber includes a first waveplate; a second waveplate; a first mirror positioned between the first waveplate and the second waveplate; a prism extending from the first mirror and positioned between the first waveplate and the second waveplate; and a second mirror positioned under the first waveplate, the second waveplate, the first mirror, and the prism. The second mirror may include a direct bonded copper (DBC) chip. The first waveplate and the second waveplate may be parallel to each other. The first mirror may be orthogonal to each of the first waveplate and the second waveplate. The prism may have a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is connected to the first mirror, and the second end is connected to the second mirror. The prism may extend from the first mirror to the second mirror at an acute angle.

A device for the positioning of an optical beam includes a housing and at least four prisms aligned for passing the optical beam therethrough, where each of the at least four prisms is movable relative to the housing. The device may also include one or more positioners engaged with the at least four prisms, the one or more positioners controllable to move the at least four prisms, where movement of the at least four prisms adjusts a position and an angle of the optical beam passed therethrough relative to an x-y plane.

A method and system for algebraically generating precise magnetic potentials along the axis of a cold atom waveguide. Sets of paired conductors may provide control over the even and odd contributions of the polynomial potential along one axis of the trap. Various field configurations can be realized, including double wells, triple wells, and filtered harmonic traps with suppression of higher order terms. An example of a system disclosed herein may be a suitable dual-layer atom chip, with modest experimental requirements, that allows independent tuning of terms up to fourth order.
