A signaling control device apparatus () comprises at least one LED () having a light emitting surface (). A sensor () is set to detect an external light load () directed to the light emitting surface () and generate a control signal indicative of a presence of the light load (). An electrical control system () detects the control signal indicative of the light load () and sources an elevated current to the LED () while the light load () is present. The elevated current increases the contrast ratio making the signal perceivable by the users as being in a particular state.

Method and apparatus for tri-color rail signal system with control

A lighting apparatus () includes a wave guide () formed from a translucent material. The wave guide has a top surface (), a bottom surface () that has a pre-defined curvature, and at least one side surface () that receives light () injected therein. A plurality of microstructures () is arranged on selected areas of the bottom surface () of the wave guide (). The plurality of microstructures () cooperates with the pre-defined curvature of the bottom surface () to scatter at least a portion of the light () injected into the at least one side surface (). The scattered light () exits the wave guide () through the top surface (). At least one light emitting diode () injects light () into the at least one side surface () of the wave guide (). The scattered light () that exits the wave guide () forms at least one symbol viewable by an associated observer.
