A computer controls a video display having a display screen for displaying ECG heartbeats superimposed over one another. The ECG data is collected during Holter monitoring and stored in a memory. A plurality of successive heartbeats are written to the display with their R-waves aligned. As the next new heartbeat in chronological order is displayed the longest-displayed heartbeat is removed. The total number of heartbeats displayed therefore remains constant. The user can select the total number of heartbeats, between one and five, to be displayed at one time. In one mode, a heartbeat is added, and removed, during each screen refresh cycle. In another mode, the user can step the display in either reverse or forward chronological order one step at a time. A second display is provided upon which heartbeat waveforms are added at the end of a continuous ECG waveform each time a new heartbeat waveform is superimposed in the other display. The same heartbeat waveform is written to each display at the same time.

A scroll bar permits a user to use a computer mouse to click and drag the scroll box to display different portions of the ECG data. When the cursor is on the scroll box and a button on the mouse is depressed, a data window opens adjacent the scroll box and displays the hours, minutes and seconds of the time of day when the ECG waveform of the portion currently displayed was recorded. The data window moves with the scroll box and continues to display current time of the data displayed. When the mouse button is released, the data window closes and the screen changes to display ECG waveform from the newly selected time.

A computer controls a video display having a display screen for displaying ECG heartbeats superimposed over one another. The ECG data is collected during Holter monitoring and stored in a memory. The Holter monitor preliminarily classifies each beat to a morphology. A representative sample of each morphology is presented in a display window. Each sample can be overlaid with any other selected sample, in different colors, in a compare window having an enlarged scale from the display windows. After comparison, different morphologies can be merged and a selected beat classification can be reclassified to another morphology.
