A communication system includes a circuit board assembly including a mating circuit board having a mating edge and a plurality of mating pads at the mating edge, the circuit board assembly having an electrical component electrically coupled to the mating circuit board. The communication system includes a cable receptacle connector removably coupled to the mating edge of the mating circuit board. The cable receptacle connector includes a connector housing having a connector cavity and a card slot. A cable extends from the connector housing. The cable receptacle connector includes signal contacts each having a mating end mated with the corresponding mating pads and a terminating end electrically connected to a cable conductor of the cable.

Cable receptacle connector for a communication system

A board level shield includes shield walls forming a shield chamber sized and shaped to receive an electrical component mounted to a host circuit board. The shield walls provide electrical shielding entirely around the shield chamber for the electrical component. The shield walls extend between a top and a bottom configured to be mounted to the host circuit board and connected to a ground layer of the host circuit board. The board level shield includes a shield opening at the top bounded by the shield walls and sized and shaped to receive a thermal bridge to allow the thermal bridge to extend through the shield opening to interface with the electrical component. The board level shield includes shield fingers extending from the shield walls into the shield opening. The shield fingers are configured to engage the thermal bridge at separable mating interfaces to electrically connect the shield fingers to the thermal bridge.

A board-to-board connector assembly includes a connector interposer between first and second connectors each having a connector housing holding contacts and having a card slot for interfacing with a circuit card edge of a corresponding add-in card. The connector housings have board guides configured to engage the add-in cards and guide mating therewith. The connectors have latches configured to latchably engage the add-in cards to secure the connector to the add-in cards. The connector interposer electrically interconnects the first contacts and the second contacts.

A socket connector assembly includes a socket connector and a cable assembly coupled to the socket connector. The socket connector includes a socket frame having a socket opening and a socket substrate received in the socket opening. The socket substrate includes lower socket conductors electrically connected to a host circuit board and upper socket contacts having deflectable spring beams. The cable assembly includes an outer housing and a paddle card received in a pocket having paddle card contacts at a mating end on a lower surface interfacing with the upper socket contacts. The cable assembly includes cables terminated to the paddle card communicatively coupled to corresponding paddle card contacts. The side walls of the outer housing engage an outer surface of the socket frame to locate the paddle card relative to the socket substrate.

Connector sub-assembly includes a plurality of signal conductors. The connector sub-assembly also includes a ground frame having ground conductors and a ground bus that interconnects the ground conductors. The ground bus has opposite first and second sides. The connector sub-assembly also includes a dielectric carrier that surrounds the ground bus and intermediate segments of the signal conductors. Mating segments of the signal conductors project from the dielectric carrier and are configured to engage corresponding contacts of a mating connector. The signal conductors include first conductors and second conductors, and the ground conductors are interleaved between adjacent first and second conductors. The intermediate segments of the first conductors extend adjacent to the first side of the ground bus. The intermediate segments of the second conductors extend adjacent to the second side of the ground bus.

A connector is provided and includes a housing with an electronic module receiving passageway positioned therein. The housing includes a first housing and a second housing. The first housing includes a pair of first sidewalls positioned opposite from each other and a pair of partitions forming a slot extending along each of the pair of first sidewalls. The second housing includes a pair of second sidewalls positioned opposite one another, an extension disposed on each the pair of second sidewalls and corresponding with the slot, and a plurality of ribs extending outward from the extension and corresponding with inner surface of the pair of partitions.

A receptacle connector includes a housing having a slot configured to receive a mating connector therein. Signal contacts are held by the housing. The signal contacts include signal mating segments and signal mounting segments. The signal mating segments include signal mating interfaces that are exposed within the slot for engagement with the mating connector. Ground contacts are held by the housing. The ground contacts include ground mating segments and ground mounting segments. The ground mating segments include ground mating interfaces that are exposed within the slot for engagement with the mating connector. A ground bus electrically commons the ground contacts with each other. The ground contacts and the ground bus are integrally fabricated as a single, unitary, continuous structure.

A rigid-flex circuit connector is provided that includes a layered circuit board and an array of electrical contacts. The layered circuit board has a rigid board stacked above a flex board. The rigid board includes at least one rigid substrate and a rigid board circuit. The rigid board circuit includes a plurality of conductive vias extending into the rigid board from a top surface of the rigid board. The flex board includes at least one flexible substrate and a flex board circuit. The flex board circuit electrically connects to the conductive vias of the rigid board circuit. The array of electrical contacts is loaded in the conductive vias. The electrical contacts have mating ends that protrude from the top surface of the rigid board to mechanically engage and electrically connect to mating contacts of a mating electronic component.

Pluggable connector includes a module body having a mating plug that is configured to be inserted into a receptacle assembly during a mating operation. The mating plug has first and second plug sides that face in opposite directions and a front edge that joins the first and second plug sides. The pluggable connector also includes a plurality of signal contacts that are positioned along the first and second plug sides and a ground plate disposed within the mating plug. The ground plate is positioned between the signal contacts along the first plug side and the signal contacts along the second plug side. The pluggable connector also includes a plurality of resonance-control blades disposed within the mating plug and extending between the ground plate and at least one of the first plug side or the second plug side. The resonance-control blades have edge projections that engage the ground plate.

In one embodiment, an electrical connector is disclosed. The electrical connector comprises a shell having a mating end and a cable end. The shell has a cavity with at least one conductor therein. The at least one conductor is arranged at the mating end for termination to a mating connector. The shell has a cable extending from the cavity through the cable end being electrically connected to the at least one conductor. The electrical connector also includes a shielding insert received proximate to the cable end. The shielding insert circumferentially surrounds the cable and is configured to block transmission of electromagnetic radiation through the cable end.

A connector sub-assembly includes a dielectric carrier, plural signal conductors, and a ground frame. The dielectric carrier is defined by first and second overmolded bodies that engage one another at an overmold interface. An intermediate segment of each signal conductor is encased within the dielectric carrier. The ground frame is held between the first and second overmolded bodies at the overmold interface. The ground frame includes a ground bus bar encased within the dielectric carrier and plural ground conductors extending from the ground bus bar. The second overmolded body is formed in-situ on an inner side of the first overmolded body. An inner side of the second overmolded body at the overmold interface is partially defined by a profile of the inner side of the first overmolded body and partially defined by the ground frame.

A cable assembly includes a cable bundle extending between first and second cable ends. A first electrical connector is terminated to the first cable end and has first contacts defining a first mating interface. A second electrical connector is terminated to the second cable end and has second contacts defining a second mating interface. A flexible light pipe extends along the length of the cable bundle. The flexible light pipe has a first light pipe interface at a first end of the flexible light pipe and a second light pipe interface at a second end of the flexible light pipe. The first light pipe interface is at or beyond the first cable end for interfacing with a component associated with a first mating connector and the second light pipe interface is at or beyond the second cable end for interfacing with a component associated with a second mating connector.

Receptacle assembly including a receptacle housing having a front end, a back end, and an elongated module cavity that extends between the front and back ends. The receptacle assembly also includes a communication connector that is positioned to mate with a pluggable module when the pluggable module is inserted into the module cavity. The receptacle assembly also includes a light source that is positioned proximate to the port opening and supported by the receptacle housing. The light source generates light signals that are viewable at the front end. The receptacle assembly also includes a flexible cable coupled to the light source. The light source generates the light signals based on electrical current received through the flexible cable.

A receptacle assembly includes multiple receptacle guide frames configured to be coupled to a host board. Each receptacle guide frame has a front end and a back end. A receptacle extends from the front end to the back end of each receptacle guide frame. Each receptacle has an open end positioned at the front end of the receptacle guide frame and a closed end positioned at the back end of the receptacle guide frame. Each receptacle guide frame is configured to be aligned with an opening in a panel so that the receptacle is accessible through the opening. A host board connector is positioned at the closed end of each receptacle. Each host board connector includes a mating face. Each receptacle guide frame is aligned with the opening in the panel so that the mating face of each host board connector is positioned at a non-orthogonal angle with respect to the panel.

An electrical connector assembly is provided with a shielding cage member having an upper port and a lower port configured to receive pluggable modules therein. The cage member has side walls that extend along sides of the upper and lower ports. The cage member includes a separator member that extends between the side walls and between the upper and lower ports. The separator member has an upper plate and a lower plate with a channel therebetween. A light pipe organizer is positioned within the channel. An RF absorber is positioned within the channel in engagement with the light pipe organizer. The RF absorber reduces an amount of electromagnetic interference (EMI) emitted from the channel.
