A heat exchanger for an aircraft includes an inlet plenum housing defining an inlet plenum configured to receive a fluid and an outlet plenum housing defining an outlet plenum configured to discharge the fluid. Furthermore, the heat exchanger includes a core configured to heat or cool a first portion of the fluid, with the core defining a plurality of fluid passages extending from the inlet plenum to the outlet plenum. Moreover, the heat exchanger includes a passive bypass defining a passive bypass flow path fluidly coupled to and extending between the inlet plenum and the outlet plenum. As such, the passive bypass flow path is in parallel with at least a portion of the core such that a second portion of the fluid bypasses at least a portion of the core and flows continuously and unobstructed through the passive bypass flow path to the outlet plenum.

Heat exchanger for an aircraft

A heat exchanger for a gas turbine engine includes a core configured to heat or cool a fluid flowing therethrough. The core, in turn, extends along a lateral direction between a first end of the core and a second end of the core and the core defining one or more fluid passages. Furthermore, the heat exchanger includes a manifold coupled to the first end or the second end of the core. The manifold, in turn, includes a manifold wall at least partially defining a fluid chamber in fluid communication with the one or more fluid passages. Moreover, the manifold further includes a feature permitting thermal expansion or thermal contraction of the manifold wall relative to the heat exchanger core.

Heat exchanger for a gas turbine engine

A heat exchanger including a body. The body includes a plurality of heat transfer pathways, and a flushing manifold formed with the body of the heat exchanger. The flushing manifold includes a plurality of nozzles oriented so as to spray a flushing fluid onto, into, or both onto and into one or more of the plurality of heat transfer pathways. A method of flushing particulates from a heat exchanger including supplying a flushing fluid through a flushing manifold formed with a body of a heat exchanger, and spraying the flushing fluid onto, into, or both onto and into one or more heat transfer pathways using one or more nozzles in fluid communication with the flushing manifold.
