Described herein are methods and systems for extracting or determining subject motion from multi-channel electrical coupling in imaging of the subject, in particular in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the subject. The motion can be of a region of interest of the subject (such as an organ or specific tissue). Changes in the position of the subject and the subjects organs can be monitored by measuring how external coils, such as RF coils, couple to the subject and to one another and change the scattering of the RF coils, for example scattering of RF pulses transmitted by the coils. Changes in position influence this coupling and the scattering and can be detrimental to the quality of the imaging The present methods and systems address and overcome this problem.

Methods for extracting subject motion from multi-transmit electrical coupling in imaging of the subject

A method of analysing the magnitude of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data is described. The method comprising: using the magnitude only of the multi-echo MRI data of images from the subject, where images are acquired at arbitrarily timed echoes including at least one echo time where water and fat are not substantially in-phase; fitting the magnitude of said multi-echo MRI data to a single signal model to produce a plurality of potential solutions for the relative signal contributions for each of the at least two species from the model, by using a plurality of different starting conditions to generate a particular cost function value for each of the plurality of starting conditions, where said cost function values are independent of a field map term for the MRI data; analysing said cost function values to calculate relative signal separation contribution for each species at each voxel of the images.

Methods for monitoring motion using multi-transmit electrical coupling in imaging of the subject

Described herein are systems and methods for performing multi-parametric diagnosis for liver disease. Systems and methods as described herein can include positioning a subject-in association with a medical imaging device and using the medical imaging device to measure the subject's liver for extracellular fluid and iron content. Systems and methods as described herein can further include determining whether iron overload may be indicated or present from the measurement for iron content, and if indicated, correcting the measurement for extra cellular fluid. Systems and methods as described herein can further include measuring the liver for hepatic lipid content (HLC). Systems and methods as described herein can determine the presence or absence of liver disease from measurements obtained from a subject. In certain embodiments, the medical imaging device is a magnetic resonance (MR) scanner. In certain embodiments, the liver is measured for iron overload.

Multi-parametric magnetic resonance diagnosis and staging of liver disease

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for universal mapping of T1 in abdominal organs using cardiac gating. A region of interest is selected for mapping or imaging. A determination is made whether any one or more of heart associated motion, high heart rate and irregular heart beat are detected in the region of interest. A multi-pathway gating of T1 maps is then employed providing a universal method of T1 mapping of moving as well as non-moving visceral organs.

Systems and methods for gated mapping of T1 values in abdominal visceral organs

The present disclosure provides systems and methods which may assist in evaluating liver fibrosis/inflammation in the presence of elevated iron using magnetic resonance relaxometry. In a non-limiting embodiment, the systems and methods include: obtaining a measurement of relaxometry data of a subject's liver for extracellular fluid, preferably using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device; determining an iron content for the liver; simulating a measurement of the subject's liver for extracellular fluid for the determined iron content; comparing the measurement of the subject's liver for extracellular fluid to the simulated measurement of the subject's liver for extracellular fluid; and determining from said comparison a value of extracellular fluid in the subject's liver based on a normal iron content for the liver. The simulation can include multi-compartment modeling of various fractions of extracellular fluid in the liver and the impact of iron content in the liver on both the intra- and extracellular relaxation times.

A shortened version of the MOLLI sequence (Sh-MOLLI) is described which generates rapid and high-resolution myocardial spin-lattice (T) maps. The Sh-MOLLI technique is based on a significant abbreviation of pre-existing TI sampling scheme combined with the use of processing logic to bypass the major side effects of the above sampling scheme abbreviation and distinguish between long and short Trelaxation times in order to conditionally utilize available TI samples for non-linear Tfitting.
